It just wouldn't be fair to tell the kid "everyone has a shot of making the team", and then send him down after he legitimately earns a spot and outplays most of the rest of the roster. Think about it, he was a millionaire by the time he finished high school. Most kids cannot handle that kind of success. Especially pro sports, you're expected to "grow up" a lot quicker than anyone else your age. That can be really tough and I think a lot of young professionals just look at the situation and say "well, I can quit right now and never have to work again so why bother?"
