If they did that I wonder if they’d use a formula to adjust points based on games played.  For instance. If the Jets win tonight they’d push Vancouver out of the wildcard spots. But they’ve played 2 more games.  Percentage of available points earned makes more sense and be more fair

But we would be ahead of Calgary based on winning percentage for a division spot

Vancouver would be ahead of Winnipeg based on win% too. They’d be behind if they go strictly on points. I think they’d have to go on win percentage.

If they did cancel the only way to fix it would be to expand the playoffs to include top 10 teams each conference.

That way know when gets jobbed and anybody outside the top ten can’t complain because they had no hope anyways. Plus a chance for some teams to recover some money.

lol so much for the salary cap increasing next year.. with the amount of games that'll be played in empty arena.. the revenue share is going to go down significantly.. and depending on how many games are played in empty arenas.. the cap might even go down... signing some of our free agents and hughes pettersson next year prolly gotten a lot harder if the cap stays the same or even decrease.. and more teams will be looking to dump salary and that'll drive the price up to dump cap on cap floor teams =/

Coronavirus impact on the Canucks.

Advantages:

1) Suspended season will allow Markstrom And Tanev to get healthy.

2) Maybe we can work on defensive coverage at practice.

3) We won’t have to watch anymore 3rd period collapses.

4) If the season is cancelled now.  Did we technically make the playoffs?

Disadvantages:

1) No more hockey.

2) salary cap will likely not rise...leaving us in cap hell.  Unable to unload

3) No playoffs and no chance in the draft lottery.

4) no Hockey world championships either.

With extremely unusual circumstances I wonder if the league would make some provisions to help teams.

The Stanley Cup team wins the Cup and celebrates the Cup around the rink and the happiness the the players and the Cup.

And there is no one in the stands.

How gruesome to history.

We’re talking about the NHL here.

If the salary cap was set based on the tax rate of each individual city then the cap system might actually be fair.  Tampa should have a lower cap available then LA or Vancouver because their tax rates.  That would create a level playing field.  But it’s the NHL.  Fair has nothing to do with what they do.

Makes you wonder how they'll decide things though, if things go too long they may just skip straight to playoffs

Could depend on the playoff picture of a particular day

They might just decide to slide everything back 2 or 3 weeks. This is unprecedented situation, really strange territory that we're in.

Put things back two or three weeks? No way they'll be able to play.

Things will be 10 times worse in a that time. This will take months to pass.

This is just the beginning.

You are absolutely right. I have a long time biz contact who has a friend at the CDC. If their estimate of how big this already is in the USA, they are predicting that the US will reach systemic shutdown in 9 days. Government employees will be sent home, all non essential services and business will take an extended break.

Really weird.

Current realistic estimate is that there are over 50,000 cases in USA right now and climbing exponentially.

Is this over blown...hard to say for sure but it is looking like the death rate is much higher in countries that have open and honest reporting unlike China and Iran.

US is saying it is 10 times worse than the flu at 0.1 percent but China is saying 3.5% (all figures approx.) which means it is 35 times worse and the European numbers are suggesting it may be as high as 10% which means 100 times worse instead of the 10 times the US is reporting.

If the death rate truly is 10% then I can't help but think that hockey may be the least of our worries this year. I sincerely hope the rate is lower and this sorts it self out quickly however my optimism is waning quickly to the point I am way more optimistic about the Canucks.

With coronavirus, I think the hype is disproportionate to the threat. More people die from the flu in the same time period than coronavirus. Most of the people dying from coronavirus are elderly people with underlying medical conditions. However, that is not to say it shouldn't be taken seriously. It has become a pandemic. It's just that people are acting irrationally in response to it. If you wash your hands, and don't touch your face, you will probably be fine. Even if you catch it you will probably be fine, especially if you are a healthy young person. Going to Costco to get as much toilet paper as you can get, and self-isolating, is kind of overreacting.

As for the NBA season being suspended, and the NHL most likely not being far behind, this is unprecedented. Is it an overreaction? Maybe. But it's important to remember that human life is more important than a game. If even a few deaths can be prevented by doing this, it would be worth it. We don't want coronavirus to affect loved ones who already have serious medical conditions or are up there in age.
