SO PLEASED PETTERSSON SIGNED!!!!!!!!
Sorry, spelling mistake, Petersen. Very important player for the Kings.

Hope all is good in Canuck land. Been too busy to drop by but hearing rookie camp in Abbotsford (right spelling?) is going well and that Pod is looking like many figured he would. Hope to drop in more this season and check on things. COVID has made the nature of what I do a bit more challenging but doesn't fade love of hockey and hoping to see franchises I like do well. Hope this season is a good one for Canucks. My own thoughts are this team is going to be sneaky good and a dark horse to win a few rounds.

I see this version of the Canucks like last year's Toronto Blue Jays - a lot of offensive potential (potentially top six in league for top 9 ability to score...and certainly best in the Pacific by quite a margin) but keeping pucks out will be interesting. Demko plays like he can they will be more than fine and most certainly able to keep pace in the weak division they are in. If they get on a role with their style they can play with anyone and I don't think people yet realize how crazy good their summer pick ups will be....OEL just needs to be what he can be not what he was at his best but the rest are waaaaay better than people realize. This is a sleeper team. Cheers SJ!

I am still in awe of the pass EP40 put onto Brock's stick given how long EP had to take the pass from Hughes and find Boeser perfectly keeping him onside. In f*ckin' awe.

It seems impossible to read any thread right now without Jake Virtanen being mentioned (usually negatively) - whether about a roster player, prospect or even the US economic system. Poor kid scored 18 goals with still limited minutes in a shortened season with great underlying numbers and comes to camp in great shape this time around and yet still gets same old BS. What is it with people and this kid? Why all the hate?

Hey RZ, hope you're well in 2021.
If you go back over our 5 decades, don't really remember a highly-touted youth coming from The Lower Rainland. That's probably a big factor.
Then Cdn rivals(WIN & TO) take highly regarded fwds afterwards.
Also factor in Jake showing flashes with The Hitmen, & the expected trolling emanating from them parts.
Finally, it was JB's(ballyhooed drafting forte) first kick at the can. So lots more trolling came from rival regions on that basis.
For so many reasons, I'd warrant Canucklehead-hearts are heavily mortgaged. Yet this is nicely eased, as so many of our other prospect-projects have jumped in value/equity.

In Frankfurt for a few days visiting some old friends/haunts and have seen three different people in unrelated situations wearing Canuck stuff. NEVER did see that in my past life. The few sporting goods stores I have been in that have hockey gear as many Petterssen jersey's as Crosy or McDavid. Nice!!!

Very high on Demko and intrigued by Holtby with Clark. I am still not sure there is enough minor league depth though. LD was a loss in my opinion. I can see the overall SV% and GAA being as good as better though given how vastly improved the D corps is. Hard to believe Canucks got two top four Dmen for a sum total of a third round pick.

years ago, i coached hockey with a guy who said he had been in boston’s system. he never played in the nhl but said that wren blair was his coach. i guess there were no goalie coaches back then. he asked blair what advice he could give him? blair said, stop the damn puck. i think his first name was dennis but i can’t quite remember. he also said, in warm up, the players would shoot the puck at his head. when he complained to blair, he was looked down on.

Canucks are playing their best hockey since, arguably, 2012 and have four solid lines and two solid goalies. The reaction? Threads and discussion about trading a recent Calder runner up (and AS MVP) who has more points in his first three seasons than many current superstars and trading a goalie who could be the next number one and seems happy playing behind the current one. This place is entertaining!

Lunchtime here - sunny and chilly, going to a local game tonight and meeting up with good friends (former teammates included) and looking forward to some focused complete BS hockey talk, too much food and too much adult liquid. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

Yup but that is quite a few years back now. Always find August hard as not "training" for a camp still seems weird. I do miss the "team" stuff for sure. I don't miss bag skates, stairs, buses, idiots who cannot keep a puck on the ice in warmups or practice, stick technology that has taken every player and turn them into Ovie, wet pads, constant bruises, etc etc. There, on balance I guess the change hasn't been too bad!
-
it must be twice as hard to bag skate with goalie skates on? doesn’t sound fair. a fellow, who had played in the boston chain, i coached minor hockey with claims he hated team mates shooting at his head during practises. i guess back then, there were no goalie coaches. he said when he asked wren blair how he wanted him to play, blair said, just stop the puck.
-
Only good thing about being a goalie is no one expects you to go fast when skating. To be honest, it isn't that hard skating if it is line drills, it sucks if they are circle drills. I had one enlightened coach who would get players who head hunted in practice have to stand in net with back turned and we got to use player sticks and aim at their assets from the hash marks. No wind ups but I had a decent wrist shot.......

Work content and intensity got in the way of frequenting this board but pleased to see sufficient obtuse thoughts to refute and knowledgeable posts to support to make time here again worthwhile. All three of my teams are current in/around playoff contention - that hasn't been the case for a long time!

Looks like the Canucks won the Flames-Oilers trade today.
-
Just realized Canucks are paying $8.75 M per year for two players in their prime who over past two seasons put up 44 goals 99 points and then 30 goals and 87 points. Injecting that kind of offence into lineup along with their size and nature of play - nicely done Canuck management.

Really excited by the moves made this off-season. In a vacuum, I was kind of angry about some of them as they happened, but taking a step back, and seeing that there is a general direction and vision to it....priceless. We added 2 legit top 6 wingers, we added 2 defensemen that should change the complexion of the back end. We should be strong enough to actually be....good! You know how you fear this moment, like it's some kind of gift that is going to be snatched away? I think a lot of fans follow this route where we can only win if we have multiple first overalls in the line-up. But you look back at some of the recent drafts, and Pettersson and Boesser, both under-rated at the time. Horvat improves every season like a beast. We just need Hughes and Juolevi to join the party, and Virtanen to get 20 goals and 15-20 assists, and we're golden! Oh, and goaltending, do we even have to go into that?
-
Is there another Canadian team that has improved as much on paper this off-season than the Canucks? In the West in general, most seem treading water or declining? Canucks still very young team and so many players should still be improving this season. This is going to be fun.

@Rob_Zepp For sure. I think it'd be extremely hard to argue that Vancouver isn't in the top five this off season in terms of improvement.

Growing a summertime playoff beard. Had no real excuse (laziness) but found this so will go with it:

Never is there a time this site needs the minus more than in the summer.

@Toews Actually the minuses were deactivated again because one of the software updates changed the reputation system. It took away the ability to limit minuses.
-
There are 30 other GMs trying to improve their teams. Vancouver's (and his management team) just rocked the draft (great picks and solid trade) and did as well as anyone on UFA day one in addressing need without going insane on $/term and yet so many whining on CDC. Not sure many of you whiners know what good looks like as this past few weeks for Canuck fans has been DAMN good.
-
What a great draft weekend for the Canucks. Probably hit a home run with their first round pick. Coming back to CDC to see some whining so hard is interesting. Canucks as a whole got a lot stronger over the weekend and walked away with far more prospects than they started and picked one of the leagues most versatile top six guys in his prime and on a very good contract (who if he plays as he has is far more valuable than a non-lottery first round pick on average). Added to the club friendly Edler signing, what a great week!
-
Would be nice for CDC to consider one overall thread for the "We hate Benning" crowd to let that handful little bags of hate to wallow in their whine together.
-
Leafs have three, and quite probably soon to be four, players with $10 million salary in a season. None of the remaining 8 teams in the playoffs have even one.
Hmmmmmmm.
-
Sooooo happy the Canes are moving on! Their patient rebuild has landed them one of the fastest and most exciting young team in hockey. The addition of Hamilton was the one key piece. Capitals sure looked like they missed Jay Beagle both on the ice and likely in the room.

@Dazzleif they talked about Beagle, then ya, like that. My feed didn't include any of that so not sure what was said between periods and so forth. Seemed really obvious to me that their (Capitals) bench looked flat and in compare to last year where Beagle was pumping everyone up. Some guys contribute a lot more to team success than just the stats they bring.
-
@Rob_Zepp I was talking to Brad Marchand because he mentioned Slavin. Slavin was specifically pointed out as being a highly underrated defenceman and that if he didn't play in Carolina, he'd be a "superstar". Basically what Brad Marchand said LOL.
-
Well, Canucks won one less playoff game this year than Penguins, Bolts and Flames combined.
-
Been a very busy 2019 so far and been missing more CDC and Canucks in general than the fan in me would like but happy to see a successful development season wrapping up for the organization with an even brighter future than predicted at the start of it. Canucks are looking like the real deal and a team that will be able to dictate pace/play to any team in the league as soon as mid-next season or the season after. Canes rid themselves of some "me first" players and look at their on-ice success (not post-game embarrassing success.....). Canucks organization has made themselves a go to destination in NHL for "team first" players and it is going to pay off massively. Great season boys!
-
Wow, the Islanders are really missing Tavares. They have fallen right off the map and are so far behind the Leafs in the standin.....hey, what?!

I remember reading an article where the journalist claims that Tampa Bay can't be considered the best until Toronto plays its best (paraphrasing, but the meaning is there). in other words, Toronto hasn't played its best, so it is 'guaranteed' to succeed. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay's success is unsustainable, so it is 'guaranteed' to drop.
I can't locate the article anymore, but it was really crappy journalism. The writer was so delusional that I was shocked that the editor would allow it to be sent out.
-
@King Heffy I don't think Tavares was a problem. I see the reasons why he left. Duchene on the other hand.
That was a distraction. Nylander basically has got a great contract. But it's going to take him the rest of the season to catch up and get back into game shape. So they pretty much wiped out year one. NYI are making up for it by having everyone buy into Trotz system.
-
Crazy enough that "Fan" bash a kid for not developing at the pace that isn't theirs but when they bash a kid for getting injured too, is that person really a "Fan"?

Same situation as the last time we took a defenseman in the first round. Bourdon had a similar path to the NHL and was finally showing signs of putting it all together before the tragedy struck. OJ plays a similar style of game and we will need to be patient.
I am really hoping the fans don't crucify Mikey when he lets in a bad goal in the WJHC. This market is especially hard on goalies.
