TOMapleLaughs
Cody Hodgson was benched in Vancouver last Friday, a true slap considering Sabres coach Ted Nolan would know how much Hodgson desired to face his his former team. He recovered with his second point in 15 games, an assist that helped open the scoring in Buffalos 3-2 upset of Montreal. Hodgson will be 25 in February, relevant because players bought out before they turn 26 are owed one-third of their remaining monies instead of two-thirds. Buffalo has to be thinking it. Hodgson, drafted 10th overall in 2008, seemed like a great pick. Its stunning to see how this evolved. Hes really got to show them something. Might be nothing, but with (presumably) McEichel and Reinhart as well as Girgs there, does Cody have any potential future in Buffalo? Hodgson as it turns out, is probably one of the most-overrated prospects in recent times.
Ghostsof1915
Hindsight is 20/20, but imagine had we drafted Karlsson instead?

ice orca
Hindsight is 20/20, but imagine had we drafted Karlsson instead? Or Eberle.. 2 players of the type we need. Top six snipe and premier PMD.
avelanch
he's not overrated, he has elite skills when he wants to use them. he may have wellwood disease though. a lack of motivation/inability to fully realize his full potential. a change of scenery, some maturation, and the idea that he was bought out (or traded for little return) might be exactly what he needs... or he might go full wellwood and end up in europe somewhere. Boudrias
Kassian hardly spent much time in the AHL so one could question Buffalo's development. Compare that to Detroit and T Bay.
Bo.Horvat53
If he gets bought out, sign him! Haha jk, he would complain about his ice time. And anyway, Horvat > Hodgson.

TheRussianRocket.
he's not overrated, he has elite skills when he wants to use them. Same as Kassian On a more serious note, Buffalo did dish out a pretty bad contract. Can see them buying him out by the offseason.
tas
prediction: if he gets bought out, detroit will sign him for short term dirt cheap and he'll put up 60+ points for them.
73 Percent
So...we win the trade?we both lost the trade. How about that
oldnews
The window for compliance buyouts is closed. So if he is bought out, the cap penalty will be total and will be spread out over double the remaining term. Buffalo would remain on the hook for 2.125 million in cap for 6 years. Hodgson would get 1/3 the value of his remaining contract. He'd have to clear waivers first.

Tom Sestito
Again, eberle is the most overrated player in the NHL. Karlsson though.. good god
oldnews
so buffalo would be stuck with his entire cap hit But only have to pay 1/3rd of his contract to hodgson? yes. that is how it works. Hodgson is under 26 years of age. He'd get 1/3 of the value remaining. The savings for Buffalo would be in salary - not in cap hit - which is spread over twice the remaining term. CRAZY_4_NAZZY
I still think Cody can turn things around maybe not in Buffalo but I hope both kass and coho can light a fire and start playing the way I know both can. I still like both guys, quality players just need to wake up.
oldnews
Again, eberle is the most overrated player in the NHL. Karlsson though.. good god I'd be interested in how you arrive at that conclusion. And let me guess - Tommy is the most under-rated?
Erik Karlsson
He's just too slow and soft.
Nicklas Bo Hunter
I'd take him back at a small cap hit.

A trade was exactly what he didn't need. We probably would've worked his way up to being a second line centre for our team this year. And he'd be a much better defensive product, of course.
