McEwen is a just a warm body to put in a lineup while at the very least Lockwood can be developed into PKer. Looks like he’ll be waived by Seattle. That being said, after seeing Gadjovichs improved skating Im really glad they chose Lind over him. That mix of size and skill is hard to come by. That’s especially rare in a player who also has the talent to contribute on the scoresheet. Fighting is not as “necessary” in today’s game as it once was, but games still turn ugly every once in a while, and it’s good to have a guy in the lineup who can deal out the occasional beat down, rather than just show his bravery by accepting the challenge, but usually losing, or at best surviving a fight with another team’s tough guy. Not saying Gadjovich is “goon” or even a legit heavyweight, but he’s probably the closest thing we have in the system right now. I think he’s shown enough so far in camp and preseason that he deserves a real shot at making the team, and possible more of one than he’s being given. He’s looked rather good this year. The skating is vastly improved, to the point where it doesn’t really look like a weakness any more, just “average.” And he’s always had excellent hands in tight and really strong goalscoring instincts. Maybe he’s not yet a “proven” NHL level player, and certainly he has some room to improve. Clearly Gads skates a lot better than Lucic, Reaves, and several other big boppers. I’d say Gads is a much better hockey player than Reaves. So why can’t we find a spot for him in our lineup? It sure looks like he has the skills and smarts to play higher in the lineup. I've seen enough from Big Mac to say that I don't think there's much more there. The guy has put in the time and is clearly ready for a shot. It would be such a shame to lose him for nothing at this point.
