I kind of laugh at how many feel Brady will give Elias a run for the Calder. It looks like a one horse race. Even if he lost the points race something has to be said of his highlight reel assists followed by his highlight reel goals. As well as his highlight reel dekes! And then throw in the first time playing pro at center! Other than a couple games ! Then throw in the stretch with-out any line mates! All kidding aside hard to imagine him staying at a point per game now that "the stretch is over". Now he is out practicing the things he failed at in game situations! How many players have said that? Working on his one timer from both sides! And the most important getting his rest! Hard to believe how many assists he doesn't have (failed attempts off perfect passes! On failed attempts he would bury any one close in the Calder! Last night he dominated and easily could have had a four point night. The other night he could have also had 3 (he did get one). He is dominating every time he is on the ice! I would say he is also getting better at playing against better defenders! The team is starting to look like the team that went into "the stretch" of games that had failure written all over it based on injuries. Have the Canucks ever played a stretch like the one we seen last month? That alone would ruin any young teams confidence. Going like 10 games with-out any rest. Sure Nashville is injured but they haven't played 10 games in 18 nights! That's unheard of! Even their couple home games had flights as bookends! not enough is being said about "the stretch" Imagine if Toronto had a stretch like that! You would hear about it all year. The Canadians had a similar stretch and their coach was talking about how gassed his team was. ( and they had a two day break between games ). Now the team is starting to be rested and they are skating well again. GO FIGURE!

it's far from a one horse race and Tkachuk is a legit contender with EP and Dahlin.  At this points it's a toss up, imo.

Is Jake playing like he did when he was having success as a rookie, before they demanded him to be a defensive specialist or sit?

Pretty much, as soon as he was drafted the Nucks wanted him to be a big hitter, he was known for hitting but it was his 45 goals and offense that got him drafted in the top ten, not his hitting.

after drafting him the Nucks had a large say in how they wanted him trained.

Both him and Goldy used to be looking at the bench constantly during play waiting to be called off the ice, I remember one time Jake skated to the bench on a face off only to find he wasn't yanked off, he looked very surprised.

When playing waiting to be chastised and called off the ice changes the player's confidence and effectiveness. Now they are treated like the rest of the players they play a more relaxed and effective game

He has always had good defensive numbers

I thought it was telling that Green had Jake on the ice with 1:15 left in the game - showing a high confidence level re Jake's new defensive discipline

Thing is, EP's skill goes beyond just scoring goals/points.  The overall game he plays is rather astounding for someone his age.  The way he reads the ice, anticipates what others are going to do then reacts accordingly, the way he can create room for himself, how he doesn't give up on a play and can even do things while falling to the ice (when most are just bracing for that), his backchecking and how he can make up for mistakes.  Things that, overall, make him so outstanding and a stand alone in my view.

He's a very rare type of player and this is just the beginning.  It's like genius level hockey.

How many 19-20 year old centers come back below their own goal line to give their D another option or win a puck battle against a guy 50 lbs heavier? The points and dangles are at another level but the defensive play without the puck is looking like a Kesler in his prime (09-12).

you could say the same thing about Tkachuk's physical, in your face kind of game, or Dahlin's solid play in all three zones as a dman.  I love that all three play completely different styles.  My point being that it is a very close race, at this point, for the Calder and all three would be deserving winners.

The things you mentioned for those two aren't as rare as a hockey "mind" like EP's got.   Physicality isn't rare or unique.  Solid play in all 3 zones can be taught and instilled through coaching.  I'm talking about the stuff that some will never develop that's more of a natural tendency.

I'm biased, sure.  But some of the stuff he does out there is...magic and it isn't going unnoticed.  Even during losses...he's talked about (in a good way).  That, in itself, speaks volumes.

I don't disagree, but it clearly doesn't diminish their effectiveness as Tkachuk and Dahlin have an equal impact, at least.

Our team has one of the worst goal differentials in the league, and EP 40 is a plus 5.  He's great all over the ice, and plays a very mature game.  He's already one of the top centers (and players) in the league.

Did you even bother to look at other teams schedules before you wrote this post? All 3 teams played roughly the same amount of games in the 30 days between Nov. 6-Dec. 6, all 3 had a stretch of 10 games in either 18 or 19 nights and the home and away games have similar #'s. I get that T.O. doesn't travel as much the Canucks (44k last season), but Nashville (42k last season) does. There are literally 20 other teams with nearly identical schedules for those 30 days but its only the Canucks that went through that kind of stretch in your mind and let me guess its because the NHL has it in for the Canucks. I swear the false victim mentality among Canuck fans is some of the worst I've seen, you just assumed the Canucks were the only ones with a tough schedule when the reality is that's just life in the NHL for a bunch of teams in the West or South.

11/06-12/06 30 days

Canucks played 16 games 7 at home and 9 on the road

11/06-12/06 30 days

Nashville played 15 games 8 at home 7 on the road

11/06-12/06 30 days

Toronto played 15 games  7 at home 8 on the road

I mentioned that T.O. doesn’t travel as much and I also listed the yearly mileage for the Canucks and Preds last season which were only 2k miles apart over the whole season. The travel thing is crutch, like I said there are 20 teams that have a worse or very similar travel schedule and distance to the Canucks.
