It's a matter of making efficient use of the cap space they have.  There are 2 or 3 pieces that should be moved along and I think that is the bigger issue.

You've got your core, and then you have the so called 7 pieces that it takes to win a cup (not that the role players aren't important) but this is where the money needs to be spent.

1C  Pettersson 7.3

2C  Horvat 5.5

3C  Defensive specialist (pk)  ??  Miller (not exactly) 8.5?

1W  Sniper or Power Forward  Boeser 7.5?

1D  Offensive specialist, Hughes 7.8

2D  Defensive specialist, OEL 7.2  (not exactly)

G  Demko 5.5

Ok, so these are your big salaries.  I think the rest of the line up needs to be $3M or less.  Who are the offending salaries.

Miller, assuming Petey is the 1C and not Miller.

Garland at 4.9 is inefficient

Pearson at 3.2 is inefficient

Myers 6.0 is ineffiecient

So while they have 3 good centres, all 3 can't be north of $7M.  One needs to be closer to $4M.  Take your pick.

Boeser is better closer to 6.5

They have 2 offensive specialists on the back end so are missing a shutdown guy

I think that I have shown that they are fairly close but they have work to do.  How long to these important moves take?

Garland is a very good player top 6 for sure.. If he was given PP time he would put up way more points. Playing 2nd unit PP and 15--17 mins he is for sure worth his contract at 5 yrs X 4.9 million...

2021-22 -GP 77--G 19 -- PTS 52

2020-21 GP 49 - G 12 --PTS 39 --Poor coyotes team

Realistic path better be a contract less than 60m.

Sat Shaw and others on 650 keep saying JR/Allvin are holding firm on a six year deal.  And likely in the low 40s for total millions.  If Miller wants 60 mil, then maybe there’s a seven year deal where both sides give a bit?  7 years x 8 mil?

Miller is an all-star quality player in his prime. how many players reach that level even if u get the no1 draftpick? that being said...i simply would love for him to continue as a canuck if he can maintain his level of play.

Until last season Miller had never had 99pts, Frankly I believe it's doubtful he'll do it again.Plus there's no long line up of clubs fighting for his signature, so I presume they think the same. I like him a lot and believe if he fails to repeat next season Vcr will resign him at a much lower salary then currently envisaged

yeah but i only know what i have seen. hes been a type of player that we have missed. He chases and wins pucks aggressively, playing both center and wing, can both score and make plays and is a great skater. the emphasis for me was we needed someone that can win pucks and make plays and imo he was simply a lot better then expected and was a great fit for that role. The thing is he is mainly a support player at a high level and im expecting both petey and brock to take another step in their play next season. We need the type of player and to trade for potential is a major rebuild option to take. question is if other players also will evelate their game, thinkin of Hogs and Podz.....Garland, bo, Pearson we already know their level...

Expecting another highlight reel goal or passing play by JT Miller? Instead, have a look-see at the (whatever it takes for the team) JT Team leader by example JT.

Good thing JT flipped him to the ice.  Gudas would have killed him.  Gotta give JT +++ for his courage.

  • According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, it appears free agent forward Nazem Kadri’s asking price has not come down and the requested AAV still begins with at least a “9” (link). If that is indeed the case, it may provide a hint as to why Kadri remains unsigned, with many teams having spent up to or relatively close to the salary cap. Several teams have the room to sign Kadri, but if he is also looking to go to a team that has a real chance at a Stanley Cup, his options may be slim. Soon-to-be 32, if Kadri is able to regularly repeat his breakout 87 point performance from this season, a $9MM AAV contract would be worth it for the two-way star, but otherwise it could wind up a salary cap issue, even if he’s still a solid performer.

Will be interesting what Kadri signs for at 32 yrs old? Can't see team offering over 7.8 X 5 yrs making Kadri 37 at end of contract..

Interview with JT Miller, Vancouver Canucks  Dropping the Gloves

Listen on Apple Podcasts

We caught up with friend of the show JT Miller about his monster season, the trade rumors, and what Vancouver has to do to make a push this season.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So obvious JT wants to stay and win here. He talks about the progress made since the canning of Green and how Bruce put players in different roles

allowing them, not only to grow their game but to thrive while doing it. Seems to me, he knows damwell the 99 points was great but he's not going to do it

every year. Well close maybe.:P This is a guy who really wants to be here. I feel the same way about the Vancouver media as he does. It stinks!

Too many uneducated fans eat it up too. Yah wonder why we have no cups.:( What the heck is wrong with winning now? Why is a step back needed?

I'll tell yah; The new bosses are covering all their basis. (not the word I was gonna use). Right now. On this team. JT Miller is the leader!

Aint one iota of selfishness there. Last thing I remember him doing late in the season was working with Podkolzin.

There's going to be some very unhappy Canucks if he doesn't stay in the role he's been in. The next person the says (Oh, he's too old to fit with the

young core), needs to give their head a shake. A rather hard one preferably...........

He's tooooo old..........will this do?...... Or too dainty??    Shake Head No - Reaction GIFs

He's nowhere near too old. Give your head a shake. :goat: oh? I see you did. IdealisticSneakyAmericanalligator-size_r  He plays younger then Horvat, no offence to Bo.

is RNH too old for Edmonton? he's a month older than Miller :frantic:

Gudas 6' @ 208lbs.  Miller is 6'1' @ 216lbs according hockeyfights.com

I know a lot of you young bucks think size is everything, but when in comes to fighting; skill and experience is

far more important.  Think Rick Rypien RIP:canucks:

Gudas averages 7 fights per season, while Miller has 1 fight per season.

Miller is not a fighter.

OMG serious, lol... Just because one guy fights more it doesn't mean he is stronger a better fighter?? Serious dude...

Miller would kick Gudas ass he is not a good fighter..

I don't think Gudas averages 7 fights will look up later.... Gudas shows up he needs to have a few fights makes him more valuable to his team being #6 D man..

Gudas would lose more fights then he wins, I know that for a fact..

Miller is  too valuable to drop gloves and break a hand eat.. Gudas is #6 D man
