Are we a playoff team next year?

I don't think Nucks brass want to 'waste' a single year of Petterrsson now that we know exactly what he is. Not making the playoffs would be a waste of his talent, and arguably some of his prime years. He is already peaking all over the place, just as Q. Hughes will be.

We will be going for the playoffs now full force.

Too early to say. Better with a few young stars that will be better.

If we pick up a high end winger, and a couple UFA grinder D, maybe.

All comes down to whether or nor Marky's season was a fluke, we stay healthy, and the project players continue their growth.

Young guys get better.

Same with every other team in the conference,  that aspect of development is a wash so you better hope for some other piece to emerge that you weren't counting on if you want to leapfrog some teams.

Its always these unseeable leaps that take teams to the next level. And that's why you try a LOT of parts in the mix on the way.

Need a top six forward and another defenseman or two, but when healthy that’s a pretty decent group.

with this as our D we struggle again. and where did Tanev go in this scenario?? need an upgrade.1915

I think you forget we have one of the brightest young cores in the NHL.

Canucks make the playoffs next year.  They have great goaltending.  They have a forward group that has size and speed and tenacity on every line with the right mix of skill.  There is an identity to this team.  They are fast and tough with players who can snipe.  They are hardworking and will be hard to play against.  A lot of depth at forward.

If we pick up Panarin and a top-4 D in free agency, I believe we sneak into the playoffs. If we don't get Panarin or if we pick up the wrong D in free agency, then no.

With Panarin we will be solidly in the playoffs not just squeaking in. We can literally outscore our problems at that point assuming the same level of goaltending we had this season.

Edmonton has been saying they can outscore their defensive problems for years. Hell, they had just had two 100+ point players last season and still missed the playoffs. You need a competent defensive core if you want to make the playoffs. The Canucks do not currently have that. They need a top-4D and hope that Juo pans out this season.
