So one can see how referring to Millier as a "13 goal scorer" is pretty intellectually dishonest. Also, it needs to be mentioned that Miller's best season in terms of goal scoring was actually 23 goals. He scored 13 with the New York Rangers before being traded to Tampa and put up 10 with the Lightning before the season ended. It literally just takes grade 1 level math to figure that out. Exactly!!! Idk For me, adding Nyquist, rather than Miller would end up with Nyquist under performing in Van. I don't think he'd get anything close to 60 points with the Canucks because he'd be one more skilled guy that other teams could easily intimidate out of his game. On the other hand, I think Miller will up his game coming to Van. He brings an element sorely missed and he'll be playing more mins with skilled linemates and giving them some open space. Ultimately, Miller (and Ferland) fill a void that desperately needed filling for Vancouver and I have no issues with JB identifying that need and targetting the players he wants, even if the price is a little on the steep side. When a team has a young core, that us ready to compete for the playoffs it’s time to use first round picks to support those players. Whether JB used that first now or a year from now is the key. I think a lot of teams wait too long to use their picks, and their window closes. Miller is 26. He’s big, fast, skilled, and high compete. He is not a 13 goal a year scorer though. He will compliment Bo. how often does a TDL trade actually work out? teams burn 1sts for a few months of a players time and often no chemistry is built and there's nothing left to show for it. Jim got a solid top 6 guy with term that can help Petey create space. Teams won't be able to leave Miller alone when he digs out pucks, then they have to try to cover Petey and Brock. smithers joe Posted August 18, 2019 Share Posted August 18, 2019 (edited) benning's rebuild will flesh out to have, lind, podkolzin and maybe macewen on the right side; hoglander on the left side; gaudette and madden at centre; woo, juolevi, brisebois and tryamkin on his defense. the place holders he has assembled will hold their spots until they are ready. then lets judge the job he has done. you add in ferland, miller, pearson, myers, benn, beagle, baertschi, sutter, leivo, stecher, pettersson, boeser, motte and roussel and i think the future looks bright. horvat, tanev and edler were already here. Nyquist has 500gp and 300p Miller has 435gp and 237p Nyquist is not as a prolific hitter as miller, miller also fights when need be. Miller over nyquist in the playoffs. 61gp 26 points for jt. 55gp 19 points nyquist J.T. Miller is 4 years younger and in his prime. Nyquist is 30 and will start to slow down and decline faster than miller. Nyquist is 5"11 and 184lbs, Miller is 6"1 and 218lbs - 2 inches and 34lbs heavier. We have a nyquist already in baertschi. Nyquist signing reminds me of loui eriksson signing in van, looked ok at the time but have regretted it since the first off season after signing. I even added a picture to keep your attention! Scream and yell all you want - that’s ok - thing is it’s not as black and white as all that. Supporting JB because you like him, or because you want continuity and can’t stomach a new approach (which rarely works out unless it’s Milburyish) doesn’t mean your not happy about everything he’s done, or have blinders to the obvious blunders (one major one - re-tooling, but he somehow came out smelling like roses given his drafting over that period). There are a lot of variables in play not the least of which is the continued suggestions that Aquilini family are meddlers, SN briefly touched on this as part of JB extension, and how precious senior managers have kept their mouths mostly shut because they want new jobs, but indeed they keep their fingers way too much into the day to day operations. A lot to navigate and JB done at least an acceptable job which is why he gets my vote of confidence - as well as assembling the 3rd best group of 21 and unders in the NHL despite the bad initial mandate and the horrible conditions of the previous core (usually a great team means multiple first and second rounders - not in this case). Absolutely he’s not perfect and his track record is dotted with a few serious to mild blunders. The body of work is what I’m looking at personally and I’m sure it’s also what the Aquilinis are looking at too and they have way more information. A three year extension gives him the time to finish whatever plan he has, and I’m excited to see how he does - particularly when it comes from bargaining from a position of strength instead of one from weakness. He’s well liked by other GMs and hasn’t burned any bridges - and players know that he honours and respects contracts. In other words he’s building capital for when he needs it the most - in two to three years. I’m not sure what you were expecting - as a long time fan I was expecting something worse then this and maybe I’m not critical enough as a result. He’s definitely made lemonade out of lemons, and done everything we could possibly hope for as far as changing up our defense (Benn is a gem, him and Myers are going to take a ton of stress off Edler and Tanev), EPs going to have a guy that will stick up for him on his line and Horvat will finally have some decent wingers.
