[Signing] Flames sign Jacob Markstrom

Seriously... This would have been us (maybe 5.5 × 6) IF it hadn't been for markys injury during playoffs.  Having Demko step up like that is why Benning said no to term.  We dodged a bullet long term!

Marky in the stands watching Demko unreal play... He must have known he wasn't going to get his term or dollars in a canuck jersey.

Now I must hate him.

Meh....happy he got his payday, he's earned it.

Calgary may very well find that contract handcuffs them in a couple of seasons if he continues to have increasing injury issues. Guys that tall, can start and have joint issues pretty quickly when you put the type of stress on them that happens in the NHL.

Low-key one of the best moves Benning has made, walking from Markstrom and signing Holtby. We now have Demko and Holtby for slightly less than Markstrom's cap hit alone. Obviously that will change when Demko gets his new deal but love seeing a goalie being brought up through the system for once!

100 % agree and we can leave Holtby exposed and not have to worry about losing Demko in the expansion draft!

I look at it this way, we walked away from a guy who had one really good season and playoff run, although, ran into injury when things got serious, and brought in a guy, for 1.7 million less who has years of experience behind him, including backing his team to a Stanley Cup and who has 97 games playoff experience and a stellar playoff save percentage!
