in this case he's still a kid essentially so he still gets my sympathy. Its his ass hat parents or whoever is teaching him to think this way that I'm annoyed with.

Not really...he's 26yrs.  I know several people that have adult children in that age range.  They are all double vaxed, but not so much their kids.  Not being vaccinated is certainly not being pushing by the parent.

Covid is here to stay, we're not getting rid of it any time soon.

On an anecdote closer to home, my dad has been diagnosed with cancer and he's now going through a really tough time.

He's 80 and he has spent the last two years seeing all his friends and acquaintances vanishing one by one because of Covid.  Not because they died, but because we all think we're doing the right thing by just isolating and staying at home infinitely.  Yes, places and activities have reopened on paper, but in reality they have not.

We are living in a &^@#ed up world that's not sustainable long term.  The only people that don't realize this are the ones that had social complications to begin with.

I'm assuming he was raised like this. Dunno, just very tired of all of this.

The idea came up in a different thread that "no one" cared about the regular flu shot. I'll just leave this here, as I suspect mandatory vaccination will continue to be a policy choice going forward for flu and covid shots.

--

Vaccinate-or-mask policies for influenza vaccination in health care organizations result in substantial increases in the vaccination rates among health care workers, are supported by most health care workers and, based on decisions to date, are likely to be found to be in compliance with Canadian law. Although vaccination-required policies have been upheld by arbitrators, employers who opt for more intrusive policies should carefully consider whether the details of such a policy maximize patient safety while impairing the charter rights of health care workers as little as possible. Physicians and employers should work together to find the best means to improve vaccination rates and protect both patients and providers from influenza.

Key points

  • Most North American health care workers who have responded to recent surveys are in favour of condition-of-service influenza vaccination policies.

  • In most Canadian legal cases, arbitrators have weighed the individual rights of employees against the consequences of nonimmunization on patients and have decided in favour of patient safety.

  • To comply with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, employers will need to carefully consider the details of any condition-of-service policy.

Unless its changed everything I read earlier in the week say its more contagious but less lethal.  Sounded like at the time it was minor symptoms which were a cough and sneezes but at the time there were no hospitalizions with this strain.  If so sounds like its getting closer to the regular seasonal flu unless something changes.

WHO said all first cases are mild at first. They were also reporting that the first cases were in people between 20-30 which tend to be mild. So, it is still wait and see.

Italian man tries to dodge Covid jab using fake arm

An Italian man who wanted a Covid vaccination certificate without getting the jab turned up for his vaccine with a fake arm, officials say.

The man, in his 50s, arrived for his shot with a silicone mould covering his real arm, hoping it would go unnoticed.

But a nurse was not fooled and the man has now been reported to the police.

The nurse told local media that when she had rolled up his sleeve, she found the skin "rubbery and cold" and the pigment "too light".

After being discovered, the man tried to persuade the nurse to turn a blind eye, la Repubblica reported. But instead she reported him to the police for fraud.

Local police are now investigating the incident in Biella, north-west Italy, and local officials have criticised the man's actions.

"The case borders on the ridiculous, if it were not for the fact we are talking about a gesture of enormous gravity," the head of the Piedmont regional government, Albert Cirio, said in a statement on Facebook.

He said the ploy was "unacceptable faced with the sacrifice that our entire community has paid during the pandemic, in terms of human lives, the social and economic cost".

The man was reportedly a health worker who had been suspended from his job because he had not been vaccinated. The jab is mandatory for all health workers in Italy.

La Repubblica suggests the incident may not have been a one-off, pointing to a message on social media that may have been written by the man.

The Twitter post quoted by the paper featured a silicone male chest half-body suit, complete with fake arms and neck, that was on sale on Amazon for €488 (£416).

"If I go with this, will they notice? Maybe beneath the silicone I'll even put on some extra clothes to avoid the needle reaching my real arm," the Twitter user reportedly wrote.

The incident comes ahead of a tightening of the rules in Italy for those who have not been vaccinated.

Since August, Italians have needed a Covid "green pass" - showing proof of vaccination, a negative test or recovery from the virus - to access train stations, cinemas, restaurants, gyms and swimming pools.

But from Monday, these activities will be restricted to those with a "super green pass", which is only available to those who have been vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid.
