[Trade] Canucks trade Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel, 2021 1st-round pick, 2022 2nd-round pick, 2023 7th-round pick to Coyotes for Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Conor Garland

agreed. it's a risky trade for sure i can respect that opinion. I'm just happy we're actually doing something. In a perfect world, we get 2D OEL and Hughes can be free to play "easier" minutes.

On a side note, our PP just got insanely better did it not?

Yes no arguement there

I could stomach  9oa for Reinhardt because he fits our needs and age profile but wtf is JB's obsession that is the old/slow/overpaid declining asset known as OEL?

I pray to whatever hockey gods that are listening that JB nixed OEL NTC when the transaction occurred.

Just look at the trade like 9OA for Garland instead of Reinhardt.

Then it's a 2nd and 7th  and a tonne of cap space for OEL at $7M cap hit

Tight depending on how low JB can stretch the big contracts and Garland is now one of them...

He just freed up 11 million is you consider Edlers 6 million is basically replaced by OEL’s 7m.

so there will be room to add garland and don’t forget buyouts,  JV for sure.

If Benning pulls off this debacle, it will just prove that he has learned nothing from the Eriksson, Beagle, and Roussel trades. There is only ONE year left on each of those awful deals, where he acquired players over or approaching thirty on multi year vastly over-priced deals for players that either have, or are teetering on, these players’ years of rapid decline.

Each of those players’ production declined sharply from the time they were acquired. Oh, and add Sutter to that same list. Ekman-Larson has been in decline from the time he got his EIGHT year contract, two years ago. As a re-inforcer, he just added Schmidt to that list of rapidly fading, superannuated, overpaid failures. Can’t blame the player... they just took the money. An NHL career, for the vast majority of players, is short, and theses players are no exception. Signing the vast majority of players approaching thirty, to high price, long term contracts, is absurdly stupid.

Benning appears to be doubling down on daft. This ridiculous trade would commit us to SIX more high priced years with Ekaman-Larsen, in order to get rid of one year each of Eriksson, Roussel, and Beagle. Arizona should be sending us the draft picks for getting rid of six years of Ekman-Larsen. We are rid of Eriksson et-al in a year. Benning is trading the crippling effect of  his prior bad trades for six years of Ekman-Larsen, and giving up a high first and a second for the privilege. If you think second picks have no value - Demko and Hoglander are second picks.

If the owner’s weren’t asleep at the wheel, Benning would be down the road. Enough already. If they do this trade, I am done with them, and who exactly is going to populate that team in Abbotsford, with no draft picks of any worth to develop there, because we don’t draft hardly at all from Canadian Junior leagues - normally the players who need multi year development in the AHL. Most of our development now happens in Europe, so why the heck should I get season tickets in Abbotsford.

I live in Abbotsford, time to cultivate some support for the Kraken. It looks like they may have a team worth cheering for. What an immense disappointment are the Canucks.

Have you ever heard of Free Agency?  Apparently it starts next week and you can get guys without giving up any players. It’s a cool thing really.

I don't have the same confidence as you with respect to our professional scouting (at least with respect to blueliners).

IMO to be honest the future is now, I know longevity here is important and concerns about a few years from now. But we acquired a top 4 dman, a top six playmaking forward to play with Bo, and got rid of 3 anchored deals that provide zero value to this team.

Sometimes being bold takes courage and can be scary, but we can't be scared to try and reach for bigger and better things. I've been a very big JB critic, but today, I applaud that we are going all in for this. Its actually fun to think about competing and being a strong team next season.

Agreed, Jim's been "rebuilding" this team for 7 years.....how long does he get? This is a get better now move - not loving getting rid of the 9th pick but we had to sweeten the deal for sure in getting rid of that many bad contracts. We are a better team now, this is a BOLD move but I'm ok with it too - those players grew too stale and weren't contributing much at all. Change needed, new blood and talent. OEL contract isn't great but Yotes retaining some salary but he'll likely play big minutes, unlike Loui. Garland is young at 25, coming off a 39 pts in 49 game season on a bad team. Hockey will hopefully be more entertaining to watch next year - Go Nucks.

I like this trade and think it really helps us in the next couple years. I also have been a Benning guy. With that said, the trade is a huge risk and Benning is betting his career on it. If OEL keeps his sharp decline (I tend to think he will uptick for 4 years on a better team) and if the 9th pick nets a Clarke who becomes a stud, than its a huge loss. If we can fit them all in without moving Schmidt then this is a roster that will compete and be favorites for 2nd behind Vegas in the division assuming the OEL uptick.

I'm not saying our defense is as good as theirs, I'm saying it's built the same way in terms of how the minutes will be spread (especially as Rathbone earns a greater role).
