Is Pettersson not the same player we expect him to be?

before the rest of the league figured him out

This is kind of the problem with Petey, he continues to do the same thing, and he's fairly easy to knock off the puck. That big windup in the slot on the PP, it's so predictable, and he rarely hits the net. Or else he'll give it back to Quinn because he didn't like it. C'mon man, do some hockey and score eh?

Yeah, the kid is smart, but he really needs to figure out different ways to generate offense. He's starting to feel a bit one dimensional as a player.

I saw him try to take the puck through a crowd of opponents a couple of times, but that never works. Nate McKinnon and Connor McDavid he is not. He looked fast during his first preseason game, but since then he's slowed down a notch. Is he playing hurt?

Looking at the roster on paper, they should be real good, but something seems off.  Is it too many new guys?  Demko still figuring out tendencies from Poolman, OEL, Hunt, Rathbone, Burroughs and Schenn?  That's a lot of new D.

Hello everyone

Do you feel Pettersson is not the same player that we expect him to be?

Looking back at the comparisons made to Gretzky and McDavid looks absurd

There is a reason why many scouts had ranked him lower than where he was picked but we’re treating him like a 1st overall pick

Has the time come to stop these silly comparisons to the legends and accept that he’s at best a 1B/2A C?

No one expects him to be Gretzky or McDavid. He was never compared to be to that level! That’s ridiculous.

He is definitely a star in this league and our best player. He is not a “1B/2A”. He is a bonafide number one.

Petey, Brock and other could get rolling if their pp created some problems for the other team.  As long as they all stand still, Petey at the right circle ready for the big shot they are too predictable.  Watch other pps from other teams.   All players are moving into space and creating havoc for the defence.  We are too glued to the same spots.

Also, Petey now has a lot of attention placed on him from the opposition and he is easy to knock off his feet.

Let’s hope he gets better.   Cause he doesn’t look interested at all.   Can’t believe people were saying pety was at a level close to Mcdavid and matthews

The 2 former players you mentioned have gravitas. Pettersson is on and off that level. He's phasing in and out.

I said tongue in cheek that his first paycheck on his new deal pissed him off. 4m in real salary this season and BC taxes.

Honestly I haven't seen any progression since his rookie season, seems to have regressed even. Glad we didn't sign him to a huge long term contract. Hope he proves me wrong in the next 3 years and we do have to pay him like a superstar.

And he goes 3rd in a redraft absolutely no doubt about that. The 2 norris calibre number 1 dmen are going ahead of the # 2center/winger.

Ovechkin stands in the same spot all the time on the PP, stick in the air waiting for the one timer. It is so weird how he scores so many goals from that spot he's been doing this his whole career. Teams try to defend against it, but I guess his team mates just have better timing setting him up. PP should be more productive once Brock starts going , having two bombs from each side should open up more options.  Ovechkin movement on the PP is so little and yes his shot is unbelievable, but Petey's and Brock's are not that far off.

If you did not see progression in his playoff performance, I do not know what he could have done to merited it for you.

Playing dump and chase hockey will prolly do that to everyone lol. Hard to score when you have a static offense /powerplay that move the puck around in slow motion and barely anyone moves on the powerplay and just stands there other than the defense that will change position.. other team literally just stand there and block all the shooting lane since they don't even have to move and you are praying the cross ice pass reach the target..

5v5 offense is pretty much the same. We have speedy players yet we employ a slow offense. Maybe some of the players are fed up with greens system and not giving a f*k trying to get rid of him who knows.
