He was good his first season here but he was never the same after the injury he sustained later in that season. Took him the whole summer to get healthy etc etc. I enjoyed his antics on the ice, I thought our team really needed that back then. He’s only 32, hopefully he finds his touch again. Hope he makes it. Calling him garbage simply isn't true, he was full value that first season. If you call coming into camp with a concussion and missing the first ten games, getting 20+ secondary assists and putting together 25-30 really good games only because he was riding shot gun for Bo Horvat being full value ($3M), then I'll have to say you have pretty low standards for value. Gillis should have signed Roussel, not Benning. He would have been the perfect replacement for Burrows after Burrows fell off the cliff after the lock out season. He was absolutely full value for that first season here. He came in and played the game he'd been playing in Dallas, which is why he acquired him. The rest of the roster, his deployment, and how things were structured wasn't his concern, his job was to come in and do his job and he did it. They wanted a third line pest who could come in and stir things up while throwing the body, he did that. If you wanna fuss about his cap hit blame Benning, I'd take the money too. He's far from the first player to suffer a knee injury and not be able to come back the player he was, knee injuries are brutal. Was a tough break for us but that's how it happened.
