Damn, was really hoping he would go to free agency and sign with the Canucks. He had such nice chemistry with Gaudette. Oh well, heres hoping we sign some top college free agents in the coming days as things wrap up.

    1. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Was kinda hoping we'd grab him somehow too, their play together was something special.

    2. luckylager

      luckylager

They could be reunited, but they'll still have fun playing against eachother.

It's the guys who give you the hardest time in practice that are often your best friends. Plus, you don't go all Marchand on those you respect.

Stech and Boes were college besties.

But there's something to be said for not being a dick and signing with the team that drafted you. There's not a team in the world that drafts a player they don't want to see have success.

  2. So Goldy has two very good games and then gets demoted. Cant we just keep some of our best lines together and not change them up every game?

      Baer.

I think the reason Goldy is on 3rd line is to see what Pearson can do on Petey's line

    3. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i think goldy needs to play with 2 strong defensive responsible players. i don’t see him as a top six player, so where is he suppose to play?

    4. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@smithers joe Goldobin is top six or bust. He has to earn his way for his spot, so this is a challenge for him to see if he can stick.

  3. I totally agree with this and in a way want Baer to be moved. But, Sedins leaving may mean we hold onto Baer for a while longer even though Id be fine giving his ice time to guys like Goldy, Virtanen and Leipsic. Thoughts? Would you move Baer?

Montreal doesn't need wingers but Cs.  They are not going to use picks on players they don't need when their priority are top-6 Cs and a PMD to play with Weber.

Gagner! Gagner for a second round pick .

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

"deal him for picks" trading a player's rights instead of signing him first pretty much cuts his value in half.

  4. Didn't see this tweet before, but Im glad to see Benning and Aquilini on the same page.

Absolutely love knowing Benning isn't under pressure to mortgage the future.  I think Aquilini knows that most of the fans want Jimbo to stick around and are happy to see him stockpile more young talent.

This is so refreshing coming from linden sounding like he’d rather pass out than say the word rebuild

To bad Elvenes didn't fall to our Gunnarsson pick. Looking like a steal for Vegas!

Wait, who do the Toronto Maple Leafs play for?  Aren't they looking for their stats?

    2. Alflives

      Alflives

TSN is simply an arm of Leaf’s propaganda.  Leafs are really not very good.  Lamarillo knows this, and is jumping ship.  What does Babcock have left?  Two seasons and then he’s gone too.  Then the next group of LOSERS can try another rebuild in LOSER LEAF LAND.

  7. "Re-acquired and it feels so good!" haha you know your organization is in a bad place when your considering Gagner a saviour. https://oilersnation.com/2019/02/16/what-are-edmonton-oilers-getting-in-sam-gagner/

Gagner couldn't beat out Granlund, Goldy or Schaller but Edmonton fans of course think they are getting a real gem lol

@Jaku  yup..threw away his chance by essentially just “mailing it in”.  Sure the effort was there on his call up but it was too little too late.

Way too late. I believe he actually said " I showed them enough to make the team."

OHL (McDavid) and QMJHL are two VERY different leagues, and you cannot directly compare two players offensive output.

  9. After taking the time to consider yesterday I believe this will be hands down Benning's best free agency. In my mind this coming year is still a transitional one, but the year after we will be playoff competitive. Nice to imagine how are D-corps could look in a year.

  12. Anyone have the Athletic and can tell there 20 through 11 prospects?

They have MacEwen at 10 which somewhat surprised me so am curious to know who's below him.

    2. Where's Wellwood

      Where's Wellwood

I would think that 11-13 and maybe even Jasek at 14 has more potential than MacEwen

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

If MacEwen can get accustomed to his natural centre position next year and continue to put up points then he's a very good prospect. 0.5pts per game is pretty stellar for a rookie season. Is he better then a potential starting goaltender or top 4D remains the question?

    4. J-23

      J-23

If you read MacEwen prospect thread, some were saying he would be lucky to make the AHL.

  13. Assuming not First overall in draft.

    1. Boqvist

    2. K'Andre Miller

    3. Filip Johansson

    4. Sean Durzi

And the defensive prospect pool is fixed

  14. Best part about this final 4 is that none of them have won in a while, or ever. Tampa won in 2004 which was 14 years ago.

Im glad Pittsburgh and Boston are out for that reason

      Baer.

@Roger Neilson's Towel I'm stricken because on one hand I want Jets to bring a cup to Canada, but on the other Vegas is my new #2 favourite team behind Canucks and I really think a cup win for them would be an epic story to remember.

Wouldn't mind seeing Ovi win the cup either...

Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman are my favourite non-canuck players. If any of the 4 teams win the cup, I'll be happy!

  15. Can we all just take a moment and appreciate what Benning has done for our prospect pool! He's made some mistakes along the way, but our prospect pool is the deepest its ever been and with some elite prospects! Hell our Hobey Baker winner isn't even considered in our top 5 by many people!

Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, Juolevi, Gaudette, Dahlen, Lind, Woo, DiPietro, Gadjovich, etc, etc, etc.

    Jim Benning, we thank you!

      it all looks really promising

      i am a jb supporter

but until we see more of this potential being realized on the main roster

      it's all still just potential

and too much congrats are just premature

but i get it people are impatient

      and have their hopes up

^ under the Burke regime we got two HHOFers (Art Hoss, Lindsay, etc.,) and one Selke winner.  It's a tough act to follow.

  16. Can we take old man Edler off the first unit power play please. Guys reactions look like they've slowed down considerably.

    Stecher, Pouliot or Hutton please

  17. Canucks look tired both physically and mentally. They've had a hard schedule this year with a lot of injuries.

Not a pretty year so far.

      Some guy named Larsen.

Didn't really pan out too well.

    4. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Larsen was 27 when we had him and he was already tested in the NHL. This kid is 4 years younger and has never touched NHL hockey.

  19. Canucks should sign Wideman and Jagr too cheap one year deals and flip them at the deadline. Perfect way to acquire more picks while giving kids time to develop in Utica. Trade Dorsett for what you can. Trade Tanev for futures like Liljegrin+Kapanen

    Sedins-Granlund

    Baer-Bo-Jagr

    Rodin/Boucher-Sutter-Eriksson

    Hutton-Wideman

    DelZotto-Guddy

    Wiercoch-Biega

    Marky

    Nilsson

Bring in the young as the old get traded. Trade Sedins at deadline and resign them for one year.

    Dahlen-Pettersson-Eriksson

      RetroCanuck

haha Calgary must have been asking too much, plus they were somewhat in contention for a playoff spot. Also no one said anything about 1st or 2nd round picks. Im more thinking a 3rd or a throw in with another piece. Also if you look at his stats for last year they're fairly impressive.

  20. Case McCarthy in 2019 please!

Already 6'1 190lbs and would round out our future defence since he's a right shot!

    Juolevi-Woo

    Hughes-McCarthy

    Tryamkin-Stecher

    Rathbone-Chatfield

Now thats a defence Id love to watch!

  21. Does anyone else think McDavid is overrated?

Hes great off the rush but once he's stationary in the offensive or defensive zone he's just average.

In my mind he will never be the calibre that people think he will be.

Don't get me wrong he's a great player and he's young, but is he currently overrated?

    2. CRAZY_4_NAZZY

      CRAZY_4_NAZZY

McDavid is still young, he will round out his game as he matures, and will understand he can't be a one trick pony.  The rest of the league will get faster, and his oppositions will find ways to slow him down.

The final game against Edmonton at home was a good indication of that.  Tyler Motte literally shut McDavid down, skating toe to toe with him all game long.  McDavid will need to learn to use his teammates better and create offense beyond just the rush.

    3. Rob_Zepp

      Rob_Zepp

How can he be overrated?   Ignoring his own stats, he single handedly put Edmonton into the playoffs sacrificing individual awards for team success.   He was a back-checking star and finally learned that team play is what wins.

    4. J-23

      J-23

I think he passed up some good scoring chances yesterday against Finland.

It's all bad contract team material. Five more years at $6 million per; a full pull no movement clause for one more year and a full no trade for the following two years. I put this one all on Aqua though personally, not on Jim and Trevor. No way are they that stupid.

    3. JM_

How about we see if he can turn things around under Green first?  IMO he was Vrbata 2.0 under Willie, talent that old Willie had no idea how to deploy.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

@112 You'll have serious Cap issues if that were the case. Also guys like Dahlen, Goldy and Virtanen all have the potential to develop into very solid top 6 players.

@NewbieCanuckFan- I totally agree. Hughes is the only absolute guarantee I see in our top 4. Juolvei will be there too if injuries don't hamper him long term.

Be nice to get a couple more 1st/2nd round picks for the upcoming draft. Look for a couple D (especially right handed)  like Soderstrom, Seider and Honka.
