  1. Im surprised no one is talking about Pearson being moved. Honestly think he's one of the more likely to move. Has had a good season, only 1 point behind Garland and is on a cheaper contract. He doesn't really fit the mold this team wants to go as well. Pearson reunited in LA? Toronto?

If it helps, I've been talking about it for a year.

      JustABandwagoner

@Chickenspear He might say yes to LA if LA was interested in him.

  2. Trade some of these guys. Cant keep watching such an inconsistent team. Boeser, Pearson, Hamonic, Myers, Chiasson, Hunt, Halak, Dickenson.... Fire sale this team, get some young prospects coming back. Id trade anyone on this team right now not named Pettersson, Hughes, Podz, Demko.

    1. Odd.

      Odd.

I’d throw in Podkolzin if it means we need to sweeten a deal.

Petey Hughes Miller unless an incredible offer is made, and Demko un touchables.

    2. JM_

      JM_

why would you be giving up on Podkolzin?

    3. -DLC-

      -DLC-

My keepers are Miller, Bo, Petey, Podz, Hughes, Demko. I also really love Schenn's play and if we don't have him we need a younger version of him. Namely, a guy who can hit with the big dogs.

  3. Great opening night game. Goldy and Pettersson are so damn skilled together!

Only issue with this game was Boeser looked quite bad turnovers and no offensive contributions. Im sure he'll bounce back sooner or later but not a great start to the season for him.

    1. Drive-By Body Pierce

      Drive-By Body Pierce

Boeser did look a step behind a few times.

    2. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Boeser had some slower moments, but he also had some really good looking moments. I'm not too worried about him just yet.

    3. Drive-By Body Pierce

      Drive-By Body Pierce

Hopefully he can get his legs going, maybe why he missed the first 2 games last season. :o

...That and when his Fortnite addiction is under control when banned on the 6-game road trip. :P

      Holy OVER-reaction sports media!

  4. If San Jose is going all in this year then Josh Norris is definitely a solid prospect to target. Though we may be better off looking for good RD prospects or high picks to acquire them.

    1. Mike Vanderhoek

      Mike Vanderhoek

im confused, he is a Senators prospect.

Aww didnt realize he was traded but knew he was drafted by San Jose. oops lol

  5. Well at least the upcoming drafts are looking promising

Hearing Matthews needs wrist surgery.  Might be gone foe 3 months.

Loser Leaf fans must be going crazy with worry.  Too friggin’ gunny!  Is there an uglier city than ?Toronto?  Can you say **** hole?

    2. Curmudgeon

      Curmudgeon

I've already started looking at mock drafts and player profiles. I'm thinking Vancouver will have a top ten pick for sure.

    3. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Hopefully we pick top five, preferably top 3.

  6. The only way I don't see this year being a success is if the playoffs get cancelled due to Covid. Losing our 1st round pick and not gaining all the playoff experience we can would hurt

    1. Pears

      Pears

Zero chance of that happening with how air tight the bubbles have been so far.

    2. goalie13

We're not really losing our first.  We did get Miller out of the deal.

    2. 48MPHSlapShot

Trade him for a bag of pucks and $5 Canadian Tire dollars.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

      Id take a single puck...

Would be interesting to see how good he is in Utica because he's proving he's not a capable NHL defensemen.

      Bring up McEneny!!!

  8. For myself it doesn't really matter what happens the rest of the year. We make the playoffs, Im happy. We get a top 15 draft pick in a deep draft, Im happy. This team is playing competitive games in March primarily off the play of our younger core players. Not to mention Hughes is having an astonishing year and should win the Calder

    1. -DLC-

      -DLC-

Me too...I feel exactly the same way.  I've seen some GREAT games this year and I'll feel bad for the team if they don't get in, but also commend them on a great effort.

There have been some good takeaways from the year.  Still not counting them out, but it's a bad time to hit a skid so very well could end up that way in a tight race.

    2. JM_

      JM_

there's no point in setting your hair on fire and freaking out over the team, is going to do what its going to do at this point. Calling for coaching changes, etc. is just silly.

Their fate is still in their hands despite the latest road bumps too.

If they do fall short its also very easy to see what changes are needed, thankfully its not much.

    3. Heretic

      Heretic

Doesn't matter?????  What kind of talk is that?!??!?!  Of course it bloody matters!!!!!!

If it didn't - we wouldn't be the hard core fans we are!

      Go Canucks GO!!!!  :towel:

      Cup or bust!

  9. Anyone have a vid/gif of the Goldy hit last night.

I must've missed it during my 2nd period nap.

  10. Canucks just don't have enough star power. Some of our young generation will evolve into the players we need, but a top 10 pick and another 1st would set this team up for years

    1. Jam126

      Jam126

The Coyotes don't have enough starpower, the Islanders don't have enough starpower. What separates them from us is they battle relentlessly all the time and have good coaching staff. I'm tired of this "we need more starpower" BS, it doesn't fix the team playing sloppy and having stale systems that don't work. Also, knowing Green, whatever starpower we get in the future will be mismanaged and someone like Leivo will have more one-time than the star.

    2. BrockBoester

      BrockBoester

Thanks for making some more space on the bandwagon! *stretches legs*

    3. c00kies

      c00kies

Heck, even the Blues didn't have a lot of Star Power when they won last season, but their systems worked and they had the entire team buy in and perform their roles perfectly.

  11. Would really like to see Goldy reunited with Pettersson to end the season. Skilled players need to play with skilled players in this league. Like really, how do you justify putting Eriksson in your top 6 over Goldy?

    Goldy-Petey-Boeser

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i’ld rather see jake with petey and brock. goldy looks good at times but if he isn’t creating offence, he isn’t helping this team. hopefully jake can learn to be petey and brock’s burrows.

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

goldy might flourish on a line with gaudette and roussel, if he is still on the team, next season. i suspect he’ll be moved, but i’ve been wrong before.

    3. Curmudgeon

      Curmudgeon

I think Goldy is done here. Green was petty blunt when mentioning he's had 2G and 2A since before Christmas. In Green's words, he has to produce to stay in the NHL. Doesn't look good.

  12. You can tell the refs are getting ready for the playoffs. Putting their whistles away and letting sh!t go uncalled

    1. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Do they get their name on the cup for rigging a series?

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Nah, they're just helping the Canucks improve their draft lottery odds.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Maybe as the season gets older they just get tired and dont have the wind to blow the whistle?

  13. This team lacks drive. But its our team so GO CANUCKS GO

      -DLC-

Looks like a tank is empty deal to me.  Come home, a bit of rest then hopefully a better showing.  Just want to see them skating hard...win or lose.  GCG

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

I mean this team has basically been Pettersson offensively carrying them on his back all year. He looks really tired to me and I agree with you that the whole team is to a certain extent. Hutton and Stecher have been playing crazy minutes due to our back end and they looked tired last game. Errors they haven't been making are occurring due to their fatigue.

Hughes is probably thinking. "I dont want to play for them right now... Id make them better and if their poor play keeps up they might get to draft my brother"

  14. Waiting....waiting....waiting

    1. Nucker 67

      Nucker 67

I can't believe how quiet it is. Not just the Canucks, but the whole league. Is everyone waiting until the last minute?

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

exactly what I was thinking. Just dead really with quite minor trades

  15. That 3rd Toronto goal was the worst Ive seen Hughes in his own zone

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

He's a rookie.  With the way he's played overall so far this season....he should be allowed a brain fart once in a while.  He's earned that right.

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Dont disagree, the fact that this is the first time Ive truly noticed him be totally out of position is a good sign

  16. After taking the time to consider yesterday I believe this will be hands down Benning's best free agency. In my mind this coming year is still a transitional one, but the year after we will be playoff competitive. Nice to imagine how are D-corps could look in a year.

At first I didn't know what you was saying. then I scroll up and see the recent topics and all is see are TRADES, TRADES AND TRADES. I was like crap where do I start from LOL.

  19. If Toronto really does go all in this year and gets another RD then I can't see them any worse then the eastern conference final. Scary to imagine them with a good D core compared to what they play with now. Imagine if they did get Tanev. and went with this

I still think they lose to Boston round one. Bruins are in their head

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

You may be right. Maybe Guddy would be a better fit so he can take Marchand out haha

  20. If Edler is traded deadline day then he only misses 20 games as a Canuck.

Reverse way of saying it is if we trade Edler, yet promise him a contract next season, we lose him for 20 games (which could happen due to injury anyways). There are others we could audition during that time as well such as Hughes, McEneny, Sautner, Brisebois or any other players picked up in trades.

We will lose majority of those games, but is that such a bad thing considering the place we are in this rebuild. In many ways it would be silly to not trade him for such a short time assuming he see's it the same way.

    1. -AJ-

      -AJ-

I think there are almost no fans who would disagree with trading Edler at the TDL, but many (me included) see it as a pipe dream. Trades and re-signs are something all fans want, but it almost never happens.

    2. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

It's not a matter of what management or fans want.

It's a matter of will Edler waive his NTC?

Edler himself has stated if he does move he's probably not coming back.

So much for the trade him and sign him in the offseason.

  21. Will be very surprised if Winnipeg doesn't add a veteran piece or two this offseason and go for it. Quite a few RFA signings coming up and they have a deep team with lots of prospects. I think Edler would be a great fit there if he's willing to waive.

    1. JM_

      JM_

they tend to be cheap tho and stay well under the cap. I could see them trying to add at this trade deadline.

    2. MikeBossy

      MikeBossy

One thing about Winnipeg - I was lucky enough to be in the Peg last year and saw 8 games live over that time - they have an amazing D core. lames fans think they have a great defensive group but man I's like the Canucks to follow Winnipeg's model for how to build from the back end out. Definitely see them adding a piece or two for a run again this spring. I think it will be like Stastny was last year and they will pick up a player on an expiring deal as they need the cap space for next season. Or like Jimmy says they will find a cheap option.

  22. I cant wait for Del Zaster and Pooalot to be replaced by Juolevi and Hughes next year... The D core needs a massive change

    1. Quantum

      Quantum

D Core, not Markstrom, has been causing us to lose games. I mean, I'm at the point where I'd like to see Ashton Sautner and Evan McEneny get legitimate shots in this d-lineup before the end of the season. They'd actually be improvements over The Hitz King and Pouliot. Honestly, I hope Del Zotto gets dealt when Edler comes back. If Michael Kempny can net the Blackhawks a pick at last year's TDL, I'm sure DZ can get the Canucks back... SOMETHING!

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

are del zotto and pouliot the new sisters? personally, i wouldn't belittle them because their play isn't good enough.

they are trying their best, their best isn't always better than the speed of their opposition. hopefully we find better players and replace them.

      48MPHSlapShot

I honestly think Horvat is somewhat wasted on the third line. I think that, if we do end up with Hughes, Pettersson slides over to the wing.

    2. Jaku

      Jaku

      @48MPHSlapShot

Agreed. Can't really see Bo ever being a 3C

      Pettersson - Hughes - Boeser

      Dahlen - Horvat - Virtanen ?

  24.

Damn, was really hoping he would go to free agency and sign with the Canucks. He had such nice chemistry with Gaudette. Oh well, heres hoping we sign some top college free agents in the coming days as things wrap up.

    1. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Was kinda hoping we'd grab him somehow too, their play together was something special.

    2. luckylager

      luckylager

They could be reunited, but they'll still have fun playing against eachother.

It's the guys who give you the hardest time in practice that are often your best friends. Plus, you don't go all Marchand on those you respect.

Stech and Boes were college besties.

But there's something to be said for not being a dick and signing with the team that drafted you. There's not a team in the world that drafts a player they don't want to see have success.

  25. Wondering if this constant never ending line juggling is part of the problem why we aren't scoring. Seems like every shift theres a different line and that just seems bizarre and unproductive. Leave some guys together and let them build chemistry because whats happening right now isn't working. Or is this all part of the tank plan?

    1. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

It's because there isn't enough talent in the lineup right now.

Green has been making in-game line adjustments all season. They didn't have the same problems scoring when Boeser, Baertschi, Vanek, and to a lesser extent, Eriksson and Granlund were here or healthy.

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

hard to score when your players can't complete a pass. most of their shots are from a distance or bad angles. my vote would be to hire paul reinhart to teach these guys how to pass the puck onto their team mate's sticks and how to take those passes cleanly. maybe use a better brand of glue on their sticks.
