  1. This team lacks drive. But its our team so GO CANUCKS GO

Looks like a tank is empty deal to me.  Come home, a bit of rest then hopefully a better showing.  Just want to see them skating hard...win or lose.  GCG

I mean this team has basically been Pettersson offensively carrying them on his back all year. He looks really tired to me and I agree with you that the whole team is to a certain extent. Hutton and Stecher have been playing crazy minutes due to our back end and they looked tired last game. Errors they haven't been making are occurring due to their fatigue.

Hughes is probably thinking. "I dont want to play for them right now... Id make them better and if their poor play keeps up they might get to draft my brother"

  2. Thought the team played well tonight but was disappointed that Virtanen only received just over 7 minutes. Considering he was having an impact and from what I saw playing strong, Id liked to have seen him hit the 10min mark. Im just hoping this isn't a precursor to what happened with Jake/McCann. Virt low min and brock cut isn't in my mind the best way to sell a rebuild and move forward. Hopefully things change in the coming games as I realize the small sample size.

Sorry lack of coffee that should read he had a solid game. :)

    3. coastal.view

      coastal.view

      he had a solid game

he was put in instead of boeser.. good decision

coaching choices were well thought out

sedins got limited ice time,  and played reasonably well, given the oilers' speed

but let's start micromanaging our coaching after 1 game anyway

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

Boeser didn't get cut he was a healthy scratch because he doesn't deserve anything. He's just like any other rookie he has to work his way to the top. I like watching Brock but he is a bit of a puck hog and makes mistakes because of it. He needs to learn the team is fine playing without him if he feels entitled.

That's not even mentioning the fact coach green wanted Dorsett in the game to shut down McDavid and he did a hell of a job doing it last game.

  3. Trade some of these guys. Cant keep watching such an inconsistent team. Boeser, Pearson, Hamonic, Myers, Chiasson, Hunt, Halak, Dickenson.... Fire sale this team, get some young prospects coming back. Id trade anyone on this team right now not named Pettersson, Hughes, Podz, Demko.

    1. Odd.

      Odd.

I’d throw in Podkolzin if it means we need to sweeten a deal.

Petey Hughes Miller unless an incredible offer is made, and Demko un touchables.

    2. JM_

      JM_

why would you be giving up on Podkolzin?

    3. -DLC-

      -DLC-

My keepers are Miller, Bo, Petey, Podz, Hughes, Demko. I also really love Schenn's play and if we don't have him we need a younger version of him. Namely, a guy who can hit with the big dogs.

  4. Virtanen looks just plain stupid out there sometimes

  5. Waiting....waiting....waiting

I can't believe how quiet it is. Not just the Canucks, but the whole league. Is everyone waiting until the last minute?

exactly what I was thinking. Just dead really with quite minor trades

Loser Leaf fans must be going crazy with worry.  Too friggin’ gunny!  Is there an uglier city than ?Toronto?  Can you say **** hole?

I've already started looking at mock drafts and player profiles. I'm thinking Vancouver will have a top ten pick for sure.

Hopefully we pick top five, preferably top 3.

  7. What Ryan Pulock worth in a trade? Would Baertschi do it?

      Pulock looks promising.

I think NYI wants him to replace Hamonic

  10. Why is everyone trying to trade our developed/almost developed prospects. Lets just trade Juolevi Virtanen and Gaudette....

ya who knows majority of fans are  clueless at least benning wont be getting rid of them i hope he has patience for virtanen  he will be a 30 goal 25 assist player soon

    3. Phil_314

      Phil_314

@#Canucks I get what you mean by he's probably going to click soon, but the streakiness/ lack of consistency might need a Grabner-type trade to really light a fire under him.  If benching/ relegating to extra forward and getting called out by coach for your lack of effort doesn't do it (esp. when you get beaten by an undrafted free agent), not sure what else could be done since we can't send him to minors.  Of course he won't have optimal value now but we should recoup what we can if he's not going to have optimal deployment and coach's trust (maybe send J.T. Miller after him for being lazy and have him skate with Pete to see what true consummate professionals do?).

    4. #Canucks

      #Canucks

@Phil_314 I’m not sure what the answer will be but I have this feeling he’s looking for something in his personal life. He has the skill & size and he knows how to play. When he is motivated he’s absolutely awesome to watch. He may have personal insecurities that will only go away with maturity but I do think maturity is the key with him. Time will tell whether that is here in Van or somewhere else.

  11. Will be very surprised if Winnipeg doesn't add a veteran piece or two this offseason and go for it. Quite a few RFA signings coming up and they have a deep team with lots of prospects. I think Edler would be a great fit there if he's willing to waive.

    1. JM_

      JM_

they tend to be cheap tho and stay well under the cap. I could see them trying to add at this trade deadline.

    2. MikeBossy

      MikeBossy

One thing about Winnipeg - I was lucky enough to be in the Peg last year and saw 8 games live over that time - they have an amazing D core. lames fans think they have a great defensive group but man I's like the Canucks to follow Winnipeg's model for how to build from the back end out. Definitely see them adding a piece or two for a run again this spring. I think it will be like Stastny was last year and they will pick up a player on an expiring deal as they need the cap space for next season. Or like Jimmy says they will find a cheap option.

  12. With Edler potentially injured, do we claim Streit? Would be a potential trade chip at deadline and cost nothing. Might just depend on how long Edlers injured but he'd be a good vet presence for our backend.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

      Don't we want speed?

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Plenty of speed at the top of next years draft. I honestly don't see our team/prospects (as of right now) being competitive enough to make the playoffs. Best to get some more assets and high draft picks while we can.

  13. Wonder if Canucks signed Nilsson instead of Miller because he's trade-able while Miller would have demanded a no trade clause....Better to have trade-able assets in a rebuild then not. May have been a contributing factor

    1. JM_

      JM_

maybe.... although I don't think playoff teams would be clamouring for Nilsson this year, maybe next year if he does well this season. Miller got a nice deal from ANA that included term. We were looking for a 1 year deal from Miller, that and being close to his family were the key things imo.

    2. Quantum

      Quantum

I think Ryan Miller actually forced the Canucks hand with the signing. I think Ryan Miller decided on signing in Anaheim long ago and informed the Canucks in early to mid June of his decision, ultimately forcing the Canucks to sign Anders Nilsson. The good thing with Anders is that, like you said, he's on a cheap deal that's easy to trade. The bad news is that goalies are tough to trade so he may not be dealt unless Demko forces the Canucks to make a move next year. It'll be interesting how this all plays out.

    3. mpt

      mpt

Its more like Miller chose going to Anaheim than signing with us, not the other way around

  14. Wonder if you could swing Myers (25%retained) + Lockwood for Puljujarvi+Ceci.

Saves Edmonton money. Gives us an equally good slightly younger defensemen and a middle six winger.

    2. Devron

      Devron

I just think we are already are one of the best teams in the league on the wing. Somehow we need to improve the defence and subtract to add doesn’t help unless we are getting some big shot. Tough to do but hopefully they figure something out. A trade like this could works if we had a secondary trade in place to move out a winger and bring in another RH defencemen

    3. Phil_314

      Phil_314

I wouldn't say it's subtracting to add help; Myers costs 2x of what Ceci does, so in essence you're getting Myers for half price by getting Ceci, then if/ when Poolparty's value improves (e.g. if they put him on PP 1 and he starts scoring) then we could flip his $3 million contract to address defensive needs (with injuries, inevitably some team will want a winger, either Miller or Poolparty or someone else, and we'd have a prime asset to flip for that RD from a desperate team e.g. if the Islanders don't land Kadri and still have scoring issues, we could flip Poolparty say for Mayfield).

    4. King Heffy

      King Heffy

I'd drive management to the airport if they were stupid enough to retain salary for more than one season.

  15. Wondering if this constant never ending line juggling is part of the problem why we aren't scoring. Seems like every shift theres a different line and that just seems bizarre and unproductive. Leave some guys together and let them build chemistry because whats happening right now isn't working. Or is this all part of the tank plan?

    1. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

It's because there isn't enough talent in the lineup right now.

Green has been making in-game line adjustments all season. They didn't have the same problems scoring when Boeser, Baertschi, Vanek, and to a lesser extent, Eriksson and Granlund were here or healthy.

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

hard to score when your players can't complete a pass. most of their shots are from a distance or bad angles. my vote would be to hire paul reinhart to teach these guys how to pass the puck onto their team mate's sticks and how to take those passes cleanly. maybe use a better brand of glue on their sticks.

  16. Would you trade Eriksson for Ladd?

      RRypien37

      100% yes.

    3. D-Money

      D-Money

I probably wouldn't. Ladd has 4 years left on his deal, Loui has 3. Also, the last year of Eriksson's contract can be bought out for cap relief ($1M signing bonus, $3M salary), but every year of Ladd's contract is buyout-proof.

If you were asking 3 years ago yes. He played 26 games and 11 points this year.

Would be interesting to see how good he is in Utica because he's proving he's not a capable NHL defensemen.

I wonder about Green. Is his tactic to make sure the young players don't get a big ego? Is he trying to keep them grounded and humble, to be team players instead of trying to reach personal goals? Whatever he's doing seems to be a bit of a mind game. If he's a part of their future core, Hogz should've been out there. He's been their best player. Green sucks.

    4. Pears

      Pears

I’m sorry but I really don’t understand why people want Green to coach long term. Especially when he pulls douchey moves like this.
