Petey is also a respectable 49% on face offs this playoffs too.

Crazy that Mcdavid has only played that few playoff games.  Like Wilbur said, brought a huge smile to my face.  Thanks for the stat R.Long.

To make the playoffs, the Canucks will have to pass 7 other teams in the standings.

Vegas, and possibly one or two other teams, will battle the Ducks for third in the Pacific.

@allegend anything can happen in the Pacific, LA isn't as good as their record e.g.

Jim's playing it cool, like he has nothing to do. There haven't been any changes yet, and my guess is because he's waiting for the expansion draft, then he'll do the buyouts, then the trades and signings, etc. As for what taking Pettersson's contract so long? tic toc Jim, you know how the clock hates you.

    3. JM_

      JM_

very likely Nucker. What might change this is another GM dropping something in our lap.

A $100 million playoff roster and they need a 6 on 4 to score their only goal against the Islanders.  I wonder what they will do next year?  Any more players they can trade for that are on LTIR?

It's funny, because most of their top guys should be in their prime (with the exception of Gio)

And we complain about mediocrity here, at least we've gotten some higher picks out of missing the playoffs

  12. There is a way to have $20 mil in cap space for next year and not trade Miller or Boeser.

    1. JM_

      JM_

Trade Hoglander to AZ but they take Dickinson and Poolman.

Trade Hamonic and Ferland to TO. TO adds a much needed D and does it with LTIR.

Saves us 9 mil in cap for next year, added to the almost 11 we have now.

Boom 20 mil to play with.

    2. PunjabiCanucks

How are we going to re sign Horvat?

  13. Would the most Canucks thing ever be us trading for Tanev and losing him for the season to an injury opening day?

    1. The Lock

      The Lock

Add in spending a high draft pick in the trade that later becomes a solid player for Calgary, along with trading away someone like Garland who ends up keeping us out of the playoffs and then you'll have the most Canuck thing ever. :P

So is that coaching or the players making this decision? or are they unsure of what to do?

I'm still not clear on why they are playing like this.

  15. hi Nux - we're planning another trip to Japan, just wondering if you've spent time in Nara and if you think that area is worth a stay, or if we should spend more time in Osaka instead.

    1. bigbadcanucks

      bigbadcanucks

Hi @JM_. If I may interject, you should definitely go to Nara.  Especially if traveling with children.  There's a deer park that Nara is famous for and here, you can hand feed the deer (some of which can be pretty persistent).  Cherry blossoms are beautiful and temples and shinto shrines are spectacular.  When I was courting my wife (she's Japanese), she took me to Nara and so it has a lot of fond memories for me.  While in the area, you should make a trip to Himeji (Hyogo Prefecture), my wife's home town.  Himeji Castle is one of UNESCO heritage sites, and after having undergone a recent renovation/restoration, it's an amazing place to visit.  And there's a really cool zoo in Himeji. Osaka is awesome but a day or two visiting Nara and Himeji won't disappoint you (both are easily accessible by train from Osaka, as you probably know).  Happy travels.

thanks @bigbadcanucks that sounds really nice. We are thinking of starting our trip in Nara, and working our way slowly back to Tokyo.

hey mll - do you know, what is the earliest date that Miller can sign an extension?

    1. mll

      mll

1st day of next season so normally 1 July.

For players on multi-year deals it’s 1 year before their deals expire.  For those on 1 year deals it’s 6 months ahead (typically 1 January).

    2. JM_
  18. We're still only 3 points out of the wildcard and we're still better than Edmonton. There's lots of time to right this thing.

    1. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

I think the main issue is we have a lot of players that either are snake-bitten, or just really aren't playing that well. There are some players that should definitely stay and form the nucleus of our core. But I'm seeing a lot of guys that for whatever reason just isn't a fit for the team. Maybe it's adapting to Green's style.

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Think we're seeing the true importance of Horvat and Sutter to the team. Without them, lots of players are being forced to handle workloads that they aren't used to or aren't optimized for. At this point, it probably goes beyond how they are being coached because they really don't have anyone capable of properly filling their minutes right now.

That being said, they probably aren't as bad without him as they have been in the last four games.

  19. Kerfoot to Colorado? How does that make sense?

  20. Anyone know the latest on Dorsett? Is he expected to play next season?

    1. mll

      mll

Yes.  At the end of season media day he was all fired up and ready to beat up anyone who doubted his readiness.

Yes, and this whole Pacific NW does. I got excited when the Copper River Salmon arrived at SeaTac from Alaska, and delivered by Alaska Air, a NW airline. And on another note, the NW wineries and cherries. I love the Pacific NW!
