  1. On Wednesday I listened to Alex Auld on SN 650. Was very well-spoken. He'll be a daily guest. I know where I'm going for sports radio at noon.

Thanks for the plug, I'll try to check him out.

  2. on.the.bench is a great follow if you're on Instagram.

  3. Overall I don't think Edler had a terrible season, but it is awful to think that in the last 15 games he has earned more than a million dollars to barely lift his skates off the ice.

  4. Penguins are a different team with Malkin. Not a compliment.

      malkin for subban ++++

  5. Peters or whoever is managing TC D with atrocious treatment of Hutton. Likely his last game in a TC sweater and you can't give him a shift?

they told hutton when he was selected  how much he'ld probably play...he is being a good team player...

He obviously knew that he was coming over moreso for the experience than the playing time, but to give the guy zero shifts in a blowout game is simply inconsiderate. I would love to hear one good reason for not getting him into the game.

you'll have to ask the coach?....none of us where even there...we could only guess...

  6. Putting an offer on a home is an awful process. Either someone outbids you or you are left questioning whether you offered more than what it is worth.

It's nuts out there. A couple I know, one of which is a carpenter while the other works with individuals with disabilities, moved up to Dawson because it's so bad here in Nanaimo. By the time they got to look at something it'd be sold.

Another couple, one of which is a red seal electrician while the other does reception or something for the RCMP, brought their buying price up to 800k in Nanaimo because there's less competition for those houses. Most people don't have that kind of financial range though.

My youngest sibling, at almost 23, will be a red seal electrician soon and I'm skeptical of his ability to get into the market. I just don't understand how prices can go up, and up, and up while wages stagnate. It ain't the average Canadian who's able to afford property nowadays that's for sure.

I agree. Mostly because the weather lately hasn't afforded me the luxury of summery, outdoor, playoff hockey.

Get a grip seasons! I got BBQ to BBQ and beers to beer!

  8. Signing reclamation UFAs to shorter-term contracts is how you rebuild, not a sign that the Canucks are not committed to a rebuild.

    1. Warhippy

      Warhippy

I'd argue 2 and 3 year deals with cap hits that are as low as $3 million or less is exactly how you rebuild if you're in our timeline.  Great term, hits and solid pump and dump ability at the TDL's to shelter the kids who will be coming up 1 by 1 or 2 by 2 for the next few seasons.

This is the first year a bunch of our kids, like a full crop will hit Utica so it's not a bad idea for stop gaps to be signed IMO only

Would you rather be Colorado be out of it in December, and still draft 4th overall?

    3. SedinMadness

      SedinMadness

I believe the canucks learned from edmonton. you need a balance of veterans mixed in with the youth your trying to develop. I like what they are doing. also i believe the canucks know their luck now in the lotto draft just as ghost mentioned.

  9. Take preseason hockey out to the back and shoot it.

CDC wasn't saying that earlier in the month except now the Canucks are laying a giant pre-season egg.

Maybe this season will go in reverse.  The Canucks will play poorly in the first half and much better in the last half.  As long as they can avoid the injury bug for once that is.

  10. TC's route to gold will likely be Sweden->USA->Russia. Should be fun.

Never the 2003 is and will always be the modern standard until those guys are out of the league.

Like others have said, most of these topics are being discussed elsewhere on the board and it's neat to see a quick poll.  If there is a poll that needs a topic, I'm sure it wouldn't be redundant for someone to simply create a new thread on it.

@S'all Good ManI pronounce it correctly.  However, Buffalo is a border city so I'm pretty aware of the proper pronunciation of Canadian hockey players.

the worst one of all is "Parise". He even does it to himself.

  14. There is a middle-ground between complete tank (EDM/BUF/ARZ) and purgatory (DET). If Benning can't find this middle ground, he needs to go. This means deals at the deadline and vet UFAs in the summer (e.g., exactly like last year).

    1. Wilbur

      Wilbur

To me, middle ground is trade vets if you think you're getting the (honest) value in return.  If not, keep them.  With the vets the Canucks have had and their contract situations I can't believe other teams have seen a whole lotta value hence the lower number of trades.

    2. Down by the River

      Down by the River

I think that is fair to say for guys that have shown value/chemistry with others throughout the year (e.g., Vanek) as they may be harder to replace in July. However, for guys like Gudbransson, I can't imagine Benning being unable to find a similar dman through a FA signing. You take what you can get for Guddy knowing that you'll be able to replace him in a few months.

    3. Wilbur

      Wilbur

Guddy's a tough one.  One one hand I agree with you, but another part of me still thinks we haven't seen the best of Guddy yet so wouldn't be disappointed if he stayed (depending on $$$ and term obviously).  For me, a perfect world scenario is another 1 year contract, although I doubt Gudbranson would be down for that.

  15. Time to blowout the Oilers and reverse Bob Cole's 'prediction'.

  16. Travis Green's response to Demko getting robbed says a lot about his coaching style.

Clearly those two goalie prospects in Cow town are just not very good.  Plus, the Flames play little to no defense.  Guys like Gudreau and Monahan don't know the meaning of the word. Yes, the goalies are not really getting helped out much, but they aren't that good to start with.

    3. Mr.DirtyDangles

Agreed River but who will be the starter ?   Andres and Marky just dont cut the mustard,  mind you our D is no prize either.

35-40 starts Blackbeard  ! basically you want him to start ?

  19. Two of the worst trades one-for-one trades in the history of the league just minutes apart from one another... Canadian teams suck.

  20. Videotaping people in public... I get that it is not illegal, but secretly filming players out in public is, to me, gross.

I'm surprised to hear that. I thought Virt played well last night. Maybe Boeser is going to slot in.

      Vinny in Vancouver

Hopefully, Green won't be doing the Superman-Clark Kent routine with Boeser and Virtanen all season.

    4. Bruce Boudreau

      Bruce Boudreau

Word on the street is Boeser has his parents in town and he will get to start off the his year with the big line on Horvat's wing and Baertschi as the other partner.

Virtanen should be playing based on merit.

Gagner, Dorsett, or Burmistrov should make way.

Jets are the biggest team in the league. If Green is gonna play that matchup card he will want Dorsett to stay in the lineup and Jake dont call me big country Virtanen as well.

I also don't like Edler on the pp and Hutton and Stecher being a pair.

      Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser

      Sedin-Sedin-Vanek

      Granlund-Gagner-Eriksson

      Virtanen-Sutter-Dorsett

Burmistrov the odd man out though he hasn't really been as average as Gagner.

Guance coming back in 4 weeks will complicate things further and may trigger Virtanen or Biega heading to Utica to make room.

Even if they send Guance on a conditional stint in Utica he remains waiver fodder.

He's a frickin' lunatic these days. I'm sure he (or Trump supporters) will have the spin for his "any successful radical Islamic terrorist attack in the United States" in the eight years before President Barack Obama took office." comment. I think Trumpitis is catching.
