[Speculation] PK Subban's name is out there

Recommended Posts

Bob McKenzie is saying PK Subban's name is out there as Nashville wants to clear cap space for either UFA shopping (Duchene?) or Josi extension.

Would you all rather JB went for Subban over Barrie?

I wonder if the Canucks would be able to get Subban for a mediocre offer. There are not many teams in the NHL willing to take on a 9 million / year contract without sending major cap back.

Offer Nashville a 2020 2nd rounder and mediocre prospect or Baer/Goldy.

Then do that Barrie deal and boom.....we have an actual NHL defense.

Edler   Barrie

Hughes   Subban

Hutton   Stecher

Schenn

100% depends on price.  If a guy like Subban Is available for a great price you pay it and run.  Dude is a stud.  This city has never had a dman with subbans capabilities in 50 years.

I wouldnt pay a hefty price in assets to acquire him though.

I'm of the opinion that PK would be a good fit here, and he would give us that high end defenceman.  JB was prepared to pay the 5th last time around, I'm pretty sure he would pay the 10th now, or offer next years 1st. This is the kind of splash we need.

Don't think there's a realistic dance partner there.

Not interested in spending the assets Nashville would want.

If they really want some volume.....and want to pick between Tanev, Baertschi, Hutton, 2nd round picks, etc - then grrreat.

Can't have the 10th overall.  Can't have the bluechips.  Not gonna happen.

And don't think he's really what the team needs - a rhpmd is not as vital imo as a two way, all situations, RHD with more size.

PROS
- Can play at an elite level

- Right handed shot
- Exciting player

- Difference maker (likely pushes us to playoff level)
- Under contract for three more years

CONS
- 30 years old
- 9 million dollar cap hit

- Coming off of a year where he had 34 points in 69 games, not great production for the cost

- Expensive to acquire
- Might not fit in the current stage/cycle of the team

If the price was one of Hutton/Juolevi/Stecher/Tanev + 10th overall I would do it. Maybe include Virtanen (would rather keep him). But they would likely want Horvat in return in which case I would steer away.

I did read that Nashville is trying to clear cap space. Kyle Turris is coming off of an abysmal season and might be falling out of favour. I was thinking of a trade like this:

TO VANCOUVER
Turris

2019 1st round pick (24th overall)

2019 Third round pick

TO NASHVILLE
Sutter (50% retained)
2020 1st round pick (protected)

2019 Second round pick
