He is likely to struggle to score goals and points during the first half of the season. After the Olympic breaks, he may dominate the game more frequently. In the playoffs, he may leave the same impression that Dubois did in Columbus couple of years ago. I expect him to gradually ramp up his offensive stats like Ryan Kesler. It may take couple of years. His defensive awareness will allow Travis to retain him in the lineup.

Pods is going to score ugly, hard working goals. He may already be our best net front player.

But I do think its in the playoffs where he will shine the most. I don't expect many regular season goals from him, if he makes 20 that would be great.

I don't see evidence that his hand eye coordination is as good as Alex Chiasson in front of the net. Canucks have tried several players in front of the net. Some do not know how to screen the goalie properly. Some do not have the skills to tip the shots from the D men. Some do not have the hand eye to pot in goals in close.

I followed the Oilers for years. Alex Chiasson has excellent hand eye for Edmonton's power plays. I don't see any Canucks player as good as Chiasson in this aspect. However, he is too slow for 5 on 5.

I guess I meant getting to the net. For sure he needs to work on the hand eye part, but with guys like Petey around to practice with that will come soon.

For instance, MacEwan goes to the net all the time. Nothing happens.

Alex Chiasson makes me really appreciate Ryan Kesler. It is not simply stand in front of the net. You have to have the hand eye to pick up the garbage and flip it up above the goalie's pads while the puck is bouncing.

I wonder if we'll see a contract for Chiasson today?

Podz is simply getting better each game. Last night against Edmonton he set up 3 superior passes to the net that were missed. He should have a 3rd line spot to start the season.

I think he will be on the 3rd line, but he needs to have line mates that are offensively geared.  He is a left shooting RW, but he roams a lot, so I see no reason why he couldn't play either side.  Podz is a playmaker and needs to have a sniper on his line.

Podz    Dickinson    Garland.     I would love to see Miller as the C, but I don't think that will happen.  Reading through Dickenson's scouting reports, I see that he does have some offensive potential.  The main interactions would be Podz and Garland, but all 3 players skate very well.  Not sure about Garland, but the other 2 can hold their own defensively as well.

That could work. Garland can also play either wing (as can Podkolzin), so I’m sure those two could work together on the wings. As you said, that group can skate well, and they all play a high energy/effort style, so could mesh well as a line. Garland isn’t necessarily a defensive specialist, and he has usually been deployed more offensively, but his defensive impacts are quite solid (statistically), and he’s known for playing a determined, hardworking style (once the games start to matter), so he’d probably fit in pretty well with Pods and Dickinson.

That’s why Gads was waived.

McEwan fills one role, Podz has the other.  If Podz can get to be a 20g producer with his play, we have a legit player on the team.  His drive is there, timing is a bit off.  His passing is pro level, he uses his shot like Hoglander, from everywhere.
