That 13 game Stretch in November/December where we had 4 points was terrible. Markstrom was playing too much and got a little hurt, Demko was still injured, Bachman did not play well, we were missing Edler and Brock for stretches of that.

That's 0.154 points %. Terrible. .500 hockey through that stretch puts us in the playoffs. Now, we'll likely still have some losing stretches this year, but I think there is more depth to handle situations like that this year.

Yup...a lot of those losses the Canucks were in the game, gave up leads, and lost games by one goal...the Wash, Buff and New York road trip comes to mind (except for NYI) when they could have won all those games but did not. If this team stays relatively healthy and with a better schedule this year, this team has a good chance of making the playoffs.

If the Flames got Lucic because they saw what the Canucks were doing, then other teams are taking note of the Canucks even before the season starts...they are a lot better team than last years team...especially their "D" with their new additions of steady defensive d men, who also contribute on the scoresheet...looking forward to this year hockey season!

What else would he say?

"Ya know, I think I might have made a poor decision signing with the Canucks..." :)

Glad to hear he seems comfortable with the fit.  He will be closely scrutinized here - hope he can handle.it.

He seemed pretty genuine, but yah, you're right. I don't suppose he would say 'it sucks but my wife wanted me closer to home'.  I guess, as with anything in the future, we will have to wait and see. Seemed down to earth too, he was there by himself obviously doing the grocery shopping for the whole family, the cart was full.

Winnipeg is a huge hockey town - rabid fans and media hockey is all they have.  The Jets had huge expectations from fans, media and the players over the past few years.  A couple of years ago (before the emergence of Brock and Petey plus all the other FA signings) I would have been more concerned.  There will be plenty of shoulders and players to bear the weight unless he really stands out in a negative way.  I am sure he will be fine.

I left this comment on a status update but I figured it's better to leave it here if there are people complaining about the Myers contract...

It's a great contract for a UFA who could round out the Canucks top 4 nicely. You're getting him on the open market where there could have been a bidding war for his services and he only got a minimal raise from his previous contract and 5 year term as opposed to 7. That's a win any way you look at it... Did you want him to sign for less $? Less term? And if so, you have to ask yourself, is that a realistic expectation?

The contract was a bit of an overpayment. Myers was always going to get a good contract.

That's not saying I'm not happy to add him, I'm really happy having him on board, I think he's going to add offense we sorely have lacked & can log some minutes.

I am anticipating towards the end of the contract it could be a bit of a problem however. He's 29 right now, I think we should get 3 good years out of him (atleast), then maybe he declines & is more of a 3rd pair 2nd PP guy for the last year or two. That's my expectation.

Always the chance he's gone in the ED too.

Fortunately, his contract isn't as restrictive as Eriksson's. It does have signing bonuses, but not nearly to the degree that Loui's does, so his contract isn't totally buyout-proof. He also goes straight to a modified NTC after his first year, meaning he's tradeable much quicker too.

Can Myers be exposed for the expansion draft?

I don't think this is going to a thing.

Myers looks to be in incredible shape.

He's had two straight seasons in which injuries did not derail his year (knock on wood).

Big Tex looks to be poised to play well into his thirties.

He's coming to a team that's young and extremely talented and will give him ample opportunity to show off his offensive skills.

While his defensive play is weaker than his offensive skills, he's not as bad as many make him out to be.

Many have him slotted with Edler as a top pairing but I'd like to see Stetcher with Edler and Benn with Myers, and Hughes and Tanev as the third pair, at least to start the season.

Both Edler and Myers are prone to the odd defensive gaffe here and there. Stetcher is speedy and has emerged as an effective defensive player which, hopefully, cushions Edler's defensive mistakes.

Same applys to the Benn, Myers duo. Benn is the defensive specialist, allowing Myers to think more offensively.

While Hughes showed amazing puckhandling skills at the end of last season, it was just too short of a preview to be able to tell what Hughes truly is at the NHL level.

As Petey learned last year, 82 games is a lot of games to play. Playing on the third line for, perhaps, half of his rookie year allows him to acclimate himself to the NHL rigors at a slower pace. Pairing Tanev with him means less minutes on Tanev which, hopefully, keeps him healthy for more of the season.

The pwerplay is where Hughes is going to get the bulk of his points.

For my first pairing I keep the Edler, Stetcher pairing together but my second pairing is Hughes and Myers.

While I don't see these pairings standing for the season, I can see them on the opening night roster.

I don't know why they don't make more of them !!  Fans deserve more player access :gocan:

CSE really needs to do more in terms of fan interaction videos... glad these came out, hopefully more coming. I see a lot of other teams, especially habs and bruins, have way more content all over youtube.

Tyler has a wonderful home in Kelowna. So excited to watch him play.
