For all of us who still route for Kassian...

Good to see him working and being effective in a gravy role with the big guns.

Couple thoughts

1. Hughes the 19 yr old defenseman cannot be assigned mdcavid and or draisitle. It was evident 5 mins into the game green should have adjusted and we lost this game because he didnt. If we're going to deploy taven against the worlds best player, then we cant be pairing hughes with tanev. Coaching lost this game.

2. What does sutter bring to this team? It isn't offence. And his defence is survival mode hemmed in our own zone.

3. Ferland looks great.

4. Why does Mike Smith get his own set of rules?  Since when can you take a stick from an opponent and throw it in the corner? Thats like 3 seperate penalties.

I can't stand watching games against Smith.  He always jumps out of his net to play the puck, often cutting players off on the forecheck.  And we all know what happens if someone so much as brushes against Mike Smith while he's playing the puck...

What genius with the Canucks thinks guys like  TS, Jake and LE will bring more to the table than Baer, Gaudette and even Goldy ?

I admit, I was worried he was going to touch EP and QH.

He didn’t even put much of a stick on them, but that stuff is coming.

Speaking of which, EP still looks like he’s a skinnier version of Wayne Gretzky, bouncing off of everything and everybody. What did he weigh in at this year? He looks so slight and that still worries me.

QH will carry the puck doing laps in the offensive end, right up until he gets a shove or cleanly and squarely destroyed rounding the net. He looks like a pee wee out there, but an absolute thrill to watch. Again, I worry he’s going to fly off into the boards, bouncing off a stick check or something. He’s tiny.

I can’t wait for a 3-3 situation to watch EP and QH work their magic, presumably with BB. Once the rust gets shaken off, this team will dismantle the Coilers, it won’t even be close until Jesus Saves them with a goal here and there.

Smith is a character, alright.

And I like that about him and the game.

Our PP is why too stagnant, either move the puck quicker or the players need to move more. Don't know what Newell is thinking but we always seem to just stand there just like last year. We need to get the pk team to move more.

It’s the entry that makes me want to puke.

They have the skill to finally change their PP tactics, but they don’t.

Its getting stale and boring for us to watch.

I noticed Edler didn’t pound defenders’ pads with shots. There’s a revelation at least.

Hughes was arguably the best canuck all night. And he had more of a motor then half the team...

I thought he looked good with the puck and not great with out it.  He had two good welcome to the NHL moments last night when Drasital ran through him in the first and McDavid did what he does to all NHL D in the third.

Kind of what you expected from a small talented rookie D man and is essentially the book on Hughes.  He makes a lot of good little plays that aren't necessarily flashy but keep possession going.

Thought overall team looked like a team that made a lot of changes and are going to take some time to all get on the same page.

I agree with a lot of the posters that we shouldn't be running two shutdown lines and then have Bo taking the tough face-offs.  If Bo is going to continue to do that then it is time to start a third scoring line around Gaudette and concentrate the D specialists onto one defensive line.  Two scoring lines doesn't get it done in the NHL anymore.

On to the next one.

I forgot how much I dislike Randorf's voice. To hear him get excited about McDavid makes me ill.  Oilers have a better team than previous years, put that down to good coaching. Some of the young guys struggled (Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes), but the way I look at it, the Canucks added quite a few new players to this roster (7 actually) and it's going to take them a dozen or so games to get rolling. They're still in practice mode, figuring out team mates tendencies and just trying to form some chemistry. It was also EDM's home opener, so they were definitely up for it. Not sure the Canucks were. Didn't realy look like it at first. Ah well, Game 1, nice to have hockey back.

Sure we lost, but I know one thing. Teenager Quinn Hughes is the real deal and he’s gonna be scary in 10-15 games after he settles in

He was unreal last night, had the puck on his stick the whole game.  That is his 6th ever NHL game.  Picture what he will be doing in 2 years time.  So pumped to see this kid play every game.

Ep had a 1 timer from the face off circle in the 2nd period.  I swear that may have been the hardest shot I have ever seen in an NHL game.

I'm fine with the loss, if we play like that we will be fine.  Really liked Meyers game, loved Hughes, Miller looked solid.  Horavt, EP , Brock will be better, same with Markstrom.  I think Gaudette slots in next game and stays in the lineup for the next 80 games.

Agree with a lot of the points on here this morning.  As the season gets going our best players have to be the best players on the ice.  Last night they weren't.  They might have been the best Canucks as the 3rd and 4th line sucked but they certainly didn't stand out.   Tanev has to be considered as trade bait before he gets injured.  I don't think pairing Hughes with him is the best deal.  Rather have him with Stetcher.  That would create more offense but they might have trouble knocking anyone off the puck.  Finally, why do Canuck goalies always flop down into the butterfly even before the shooter gets set?  I know they are taking away the bottom of the net but they open up the top corners (two Oiler goals) even before the shot.  I guess it is the way they are coached and trained as they come up through the systems.

Still on the bandwagon as it is going to take a few games to get things going.
