Sometimes you take some, sometimes you give some.  

 

Vegas is hitting late and running guys all game long....I'm ok with some response to those.   I'd prefer a clean game, but they're just not to be in playoffs so fight fire with fire.  Screw Vegas.

I think it would be a mistake to bring in a cold goalie (hasn't played in a while) into such a situation.

 

Correct time to use Demko was in the Vegas games that were already a foregone conclusion (to get him 'warmed up').

with that said the playoff experience would be valuable for Demko 

I remember that moment where he looked to be grimacing a bit too. forget what game though.

 

not surprised that he is battling through it.

 

I would be okay with either goalie starting tonight. faith in Green!

yup. Demko also wasn't "cold" he did see 10 mins vs  St Loius and he is a pro. I'm not sure why we have to be so afraid to use him.

Some keys imo....

 

Last game Gaudette's line, predictably, did not have a single defensive zone start - the attempt/need was to shelter them as much as possible with exclusively ozone and neutral zone starts.  Gaudette's line was still in tough - still were outshot, and spent some very long shifts where play wound up in their zone, struggling to exit.

 

Beagle, Motte, Sutter - on the other hand - all at 100% dzone starts - a heavy task, particularly against a fast, and hard attack like Vegas'.

I think it's also obvious that Sutter is playing injured, or it's unlikely that he'd be on the wing in circumstances like this.

 

To add to the problem, Miller has also been forced to the wing.

And what is a bit suprising/perhaps concerning about last game - Horvat/Miller had 75% ozone starts themselves.  The team hasn't / or hasn't been able to provide Pettersson's line with the kind of opportunities they had earlier in the playoffs.  EP has been remarkable - but it's not surprising that the team overall is having to  battle hard and constantly to stay in it 5 on 5.

 

That's a tough overall dynamic in which to come out and beat the LVGK in my opinion - but nevertheless - they came out last game and in my opinion outplayed Vegas for key, long stretches and lost for the most part because of puck luck.  Hopefully they can come out tonight and do the same in spite of the patchwork type formations that Green appears forced to take.  It would e a tough matchup with Milller and Sutter healthy and centering lines - it's that much more challenging with a rookie and sophomore center facing a team like Vegas.

 

But I have a lot of belief in that group and Green et al.

 

One last note = a continuing trend.

 

Edler - once again - 41.2% ozone starts in game 4 - 55.6% corsi - an assist, 3 blocked shots, 6 hits....he's been an absolute beast and workhorse throughout the playoffs.

As someone else mentioned earlier, huge props to ALL the posters here in CDC.  It's been a wild ride this season with F COVID and the unknown of everything.  While I wasn't sure the NHL could make the playoffs work, it's been a great experience.  Appreciate everyone's comments, analysis (even when I think you're dead wrong LOL), sharing of deeply personal situations, positivity in helping pick up the spirits of fellow CDC'ers.  Hopefully we get to share more in game experiences beyond tonight, if not a big thanks to all of you for helping make the hockey season less bizarre and sharing the fun we've had with watching our team grow and blossom into a stronger group.

Lots to look forward to next season, but this one ain't over yet!

So proud of this team whether we win or lose tonight, I don't think alot of people expected the Canucks outlast at least half those teams on the list there, especially knock off the Stanley Cup champs. These playoffs provides the necessary experience needed for EP and Hughes and they are only going to get better.

I know, retrospect and woulda, coulda, shoulda.

 

We're still standing, it's not over yet....and if it is looking that way, this team will go down swinging. Its part of what makes this batch of Canucks so awesome.

So why is Virtanen almost alone with those? His reputation can't be any good...

I've enjoyed the ride immensely, and wish it would continue.

But yeah probably slightly harder for the wife, when the alarm goes off in the early morning hours. Don't think she's too impressed all the time :lol:
