Pinnacle of what? Overpriced homes? Lackluster culture? Poor traffic infrastructure? Rainfall volume per square kilometer?

I definitely hear you Phillip, and we all know no place is perfect, but bias' aside Vancouver is routinely rates as an excellent place to live under many different world indexes:

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/04/global-liveability-index-2019-most-liveable-cities-in-the-world.html

If you're an NHL player and you only have the NHL cities to choose from, I'd say Vancouver is right up there among all of them for one of the cities I'd choose to live/raise a family.

My least favorite part is definitely the overpriced homes... As I mentioned I'm a renter myself and always frustrated at how over priced this market is... If you're smart though, u can find good bang for your buck... Just have to be ok with living in an older building and renting

Lack lusture culture I can't agree with u on at all though. The city is so diverse and has people from all over the world. You can find different cultures in each neighborhood. The beauty of it is that you can choose to stay away from certain spots if those aren't what you like.

Italian neighbourhoods, Asian, Indian, etc and plenty of good white people too. Tbh if I had to say which BC city are friendliest I'd  probably say the ones from Kelowna... For the most part a white town

Yea rush hour traffic isn't good in van. It's best not to be driving during rush hour, but otherwise I've never had any issues getting around. You get this with every big city, Toronto LA worse imo.

I used to commute about 2 hours each way, North shore to Richmond for about 8 years. Definitely not fun but it's up to you at end of the day to make choices about driving less

And your final point... Rainfall... We moved here in 1998, it used to rain A LOT... But past few years... I'm not sure if it's due to global warming or not, the weather is perfect here, so many sunny days and rain barely lasts long when it comes. It's definitely got the best climate in Canada if u ask me

PhillipBlunt, appolo, oldnews... Nice to hear you three bickering like old farts blaming each other for misplacing the t.v. remote. Lol!

But seriously glad you're all still here and gnawing on each other with your dentures!

Should probably include Kingofsurry and DeNiro as well.  You posters have earned your b!ching/complaining 'stripes'.

None of you are 'chicken littles' ... I appreciate that!

Or maybe they just say that in the interview? I can’t seriously believe that a young guy with tons of cash would rather live in Vancouver over Montreal, New York, Toronto, or LA.

As someone who's from Vancouver and currently living in Toronto and also around Schmidt's age, I can say that Vancouver and Toronto are both fine cities to live in. Both are also just as unaffordable.

I would make the argument however that Toronto-proper is way more diverse than Vancouver. The suburbs around the GTA are a whole different story though.

There's a better nightlife in Toronto but the weather is absolutely atrocious compared to Vancouver and outdoor activities are greatly limited.

I do not believe the reference is towards cultural "diversity" within a city, which even then Vancouver is far behind compared to places like Toronto or New York, more so the activity and vibrancy of culture within the city itself. As someone who has lived in cities like Berlin, Vancouver is a snooze town on the international scale.

Realy ! Schmidt will make us better and thats the name of the game. Win more games

He makes us better offensively, but worse defensively when we lost Tanev in my opinion.

He's a better overall player than Tanev, but we also won't have the goaltending we had last year. We are losing two of our biggest defensive pieces next year. Our team isn't gonna be better. We will lose more games.

This. All depends on what you're looking for.  Vancouver is great if you want some culture (and great restaurants from a myriad of cultures) mixed with loads of outdoor/recreation opportunities and warm climate (for Canada).

If you're hell bent on just entertainment and night clubs etc, there's better cities to live in. But most of them lack the outdoor opportunities and/or climate.

There are lots of great cities with outdoor opportunities - just look at Denver, hell even Calgary with Banff. On the multimillionaire level, if we are talking proximity to other places, then you have to also consider what is easily flown to as well. The Swiss Alps look a little more appealing flying to from New York than Vancouver... but yes Vancouver gives us common folk easy access to nature.

Best defense is a good offense ;)

Guessing we spend more time in the offensive zone and less in our own end. I also doubt Benning is done yet. I bet he's looking for a hard minute/pk/3rd pair guy. So I don't think it's a given we're 'worse next year'. It also discounts how much better we might potentially be with the addition of Juolevi or the general progress of our young core.

I also think your undervaluing or goalies. Demko is almost certainly bound to continue improving. And Holtby (especially with Clarke coaching him) is at worst a lateral move from Markstrom and potentially, actually an improvement.

I'm thinking with Schmidt here it will improve the power play too.  Either he and QH will play on PP1, freeing up a forward to improve PP2, or Schmidt will replace Edler on PP2.  Either is a win, IMO.  Sure be nice to not see Edler hit some shinpads with a shot and then either give up a breakaway or take a penalty interfering with the player to prevent the breakaway.  I'm an Edler fan, but those plays just seem to common for him lately.

I'm a little concerned about goaltending, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, as it could go either way with Holtby.  We'll just get to see how ready Demko really is.

I'm also holding out hope that Marky will regress without Clark around   As always, the Flames can suck it, and I was disappointed to see both Marky and Tanev go there.  out of division would have been nice.

Schmidt on playing in Canada: Welcome to the big show! I love playing hockey - they pay me to have fun everyday. I can't turn that down. I see this as an opportunity to go to a team that has buzz around them. This was my favourite place to visit on the road. Obviously there's more expectations, but if there isn't an expectation that we're not trying to win every night, then that expectation is not met in my book.

That’s the guy.

I wouldn't say its the same thing. TB was in a massive cap crunch and contrary to what much of the fan base says, Miller was not sought out during when the trade was announced. Miller was a 3rd - 4th liner in TB that was healthy scratched for a number of games, I really doubt people were knocking on TB's door asking for Miller offering up a high end asset. The trade worked out, and trust me, if TB knew Miller was going to end up being an 80pt player, they wouldve kept him or asked for WAY more. Just so happens that JT landed in a perfect position and I don't think any of us knew he would be this good. Its like us trying to get rid of Sutter and someone calls Jim offering us a 1st round pick for Brandon Sutter, would you take it?

Pietrangelo on the other hand is probably in the upper echelon of this UFA draft class, whereever he's gonna go, hes going to make an impact. Vegas didn't need to go get Pietrangelo but they identified him as an upgrade and needed to get somebody out.

Really? You're equating Brandon Sutter with JT Miller, who had more wayyy more points than Sutter ever did in their previous year before the acquisition? Lmfao.

13+34 = 47 in 75 games - JT Miller

4+2 = 6 in 26 games  - Brandon Sutter

Very poor comparison. Also, no one presumably has a crystal ball so you can't use the argument that they would've asked for a higher price.

If Schneider would end up busting in NJ, would they have traded the 9th overall?

If Benning foresaw the disaster of Eriksson, would he have asked him to sign for 2 million?

Really stupid logic.

I don’t live in Vancouver but really enjoy visiting there. The perspective is always different in the place you actually live in.

I’m born and raised here and see the city for what it is. There’s some good stuff that I like about Vancouver, but I’ve travelled enough to know that it’s not as amazing as many state it to be.
