Also the team was to used to marky saving there hides night after night, there was nights marky only let in 2-4 goals but had 50+ shots against him, thats the thing now, we dont hvae a marky type goalie, so for now we will have these similar games with our current goalies

Goalies aren't the problem though. Can't be this reliant on them

Team needed to be better in front of our goalies even when we had Marky.

We give up too much. Not a successful brand of hockey.

Whatever the Department of Player Safety decides, whether they give a supplemental discipline or not, there won't be a consensus between everyone. The part that makes it subjective is the way it's seen through different angles and how it's perceived. From one angle, it doesn't look as clear cut, but on the other angle, it looks like the principle point of contact was the head. In the end, I'm going say it will be 1-2 games.

Another part in never having consensus is people's mindset. In ~1981,  it would have been a much smaller number of people who would deem that hit a possible suspension worthy hit. Others would say it is a tough man's game, etc - so there will almost always be a group vocal that those plays should be, at best, a penalty only.

Things have changed over the past 40 years, and those blindside hits anywhere close to the head are not well thought of by the D of PS. Whether we agree with that or not, "it is what it is" - they will usually 5 and a game that hit, and sometimes give it the 1-2 games that you mention. The one challenge is for them to be consistent in doling out the punishment - I think that consistency could be an arguable point...

Just my 2 cents, but because we have no pennies, round it down and maybe my thoughts are worthless lol

Why this is happening:

BAD MANAGEMENT DECISIONS

-  Team is significantly worse than last season... the defense is quite a bit weaker, and the goaltending has lost its heart.

This is on Benning.  This is his team and the bad choices he made in October and in previous seasons are coming home to roost.

Those decisions were probably made under pressure from the ownership... they wanted a playoff appearance, and Benning refused to say no.... he held onto players too long in an effort to get the team into the playoffs, and the result was the loss of key players without any compensation.

Last season this team needed to deal with its free agency problem.  Benning needed to be hard headed... he needed to trade those players who he couldn't sign for good assets.... he didn't.

Tanev was a key member of the defense and letting him sign elsewhere with no compensation and replacing him with Nate Schmidt was a disaster.  Calgary is paying 4.5 million for four seasons for Tanev, Vancouver is paying nearly 6 million per season for Schmidt over the same time period and they lost a draft choice.

Markstrom was the key to the team's success last season.  They either needed to pay the money to sign him or trade him in 2019 for a really strong defensive piece or a comparable goalie.  Benning did neither... the Canucks replaced him with Holtby who is clearly not the player who won the Cup... that's why Washington let him go.  Demko is just not ready.

THE SAME POOR 'DUMP AND CHASE' COACHING STYLE FROM GREEN

I am on record about Green's coaching style for several years... he is just not NHL level.  He has no understanding of how to teach players how to play the type of complex offensive systems which are needed to win in the day and era.  He is squandering the talents of Pettersson... has no idea of how to coach the type of fast passing offensive style that Petey needs to thrive.  The team is too dependent on the powerplay scoring... if its not redhot, then the team flounders... Green has no idea of how to coach the team to score 5 on 5.

Markstrom bailed out Green dozens of times last year... this year there is no miracle backstopper to save Green's sorry butt.

---

Sorry folks... get ready for a long dismal season.

So because of injuries and a possible suspension, our defenceman for the next game is looking something like:

Hughes-Schmidt

Juolevi-Chatfield

Sautner-Briesbois

???

Sautner was loaned to the Manitoba Moose. We still have Rathbone and Brisebois on the taxi squad.

That’s one way to finally force the Hughes - Schmidt combo.

It’s Juolevi the 1st rounder’s time to shine.

Lots were complaining about not letting our 'star" prospects play and now they are given the chance

Maybe those picks we gave away, that some said 2nd round pocks never amounted to anything, never looked at all the 2nd and later rounds who have done very well.

Hopefully they will learn fast, or maybe?

Eventually we had to see what we have, but my concerns were, if they don't and you traded picks, then what?

Rarely do ufa turn out well and you overpay, so that option sucks too

... Wow.

The worst 4th liner doesn't make a good defenceman. He's slow, 0 physicality, 0 offence. He would take 3 hits into the boards and retire.

On second thought yeah, throw him on D for a game

Are you talking bout Loui?

Can you be a bit more honest?    This may go down as "THE POST OF THE YEAR"  .  Thanks for speaking 'THE TRUTH" !!!
