He’s a good player. There’s nothing wrong with his contract.

Montour isn't going to sign at the same $3.85m cap hit he had last year (which is only a $2m saving BTW). He's likely looking at something around $5m+, for an inferior player. What's the point? Popular Post J-Dizzle
I think CDC has developed a severe L.E.C (Louie Erikkson Complex). Any player over 27 who has a contract longer than 2 years or worth more than 2.5 a year is considered an absolute albatross. At this point I’m pretty sure there would be a good chunk of posters who would be calling for Benning’s head if he picked up Crosby for future considerations…. “Too old, makes too much.” 2 2 2

Tanev is currently a 1RD. This is another pro-scouting mistake by Canucks management. They misread the room again. Cap space is money! Many thought a third round pick was a good deal to pick up Schmidt. I wouldn't have made the move, many on CDS wouldn't have made the move, but we aren't pro-scouts employed by the team. Now I'm wondering if giving up another 3rd round pick would be enough to give up to trade his contract. Like selling a stock that has cost you money. Sure it may have some upside, but you only get so many to buy and hold. I think they trade Scmidt for a contract player like OEL. I'd rather they trade him for cap space. Last I checked they don't give you the cup for having the most cap space of all 32 teams. Heck the ones that are almost $20 million over the cap is most likely lift8ng the cup next week. What good is cap space when you don't have the players. You do that Schmidt trade 100 out of 100 times. Glad you ain't the GM. Popular Post rekker
A lot of crapping on Schmidt here. He had a tough start as did the whole team and he got better as the year went on. Maybe a slight overpayment but nothing to get worked up about. Leaving top notch teams like the Caps and the Knights can't have been an easy transition. He has a weaker supporting cast around him, spends more time in his own zone than ever before. He will be fine. Actually, the whole team will have a bounce back season next year. Book it.

Butters Stoch
Our depth on D is awful, I'm not sure if trading one of our few NHL quality defensemen is good idea unless we somehow get a better dman back. Benning has been absolutely atrocious at signing/trading for defesemen (Sbisa, Gudbranson, MDZ, the list goes on and on) and bringing Schmidt is probably the best that he's been able to do in his tenure for our defense, sadly.

Well I would imagine he would be part of a trade for a defenseman. Schmidt + 9thOA + Prospect for Jones is just one possible scenario.

Seider is not nearly proven enough to pay that much. Detroit doesn’t really have a need for Schmidt and would likely just need to get a Seider replacement with the 9th pick. Yeah as much as I'd LOVE Seider, that's a big pay and DET has zero incentive to move him.
