MikeBossy
Wow https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/jay-woodcroft-takes-oilers-head-coach-replacing-dave-tippett/ Jay Woodcroft is the Edmonton Oilers' new head coach, replacing Dave Tippett in the wake of the team's 4-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, Sportsnet can confirm. The Oilers (23-18-3) are five points adrift of the Calgary Flames, who own the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Woodcroft, 45, was promoted from the Oilers' AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, where he has been head coach since 2018-19. Over three-plus seasons in Bakersfield, Woodcroft's record is 105-71-21 and was highlighted by a Calder Cup championship last season.

khay
I will say that Tippett did what he could given the roster. They did play very structured game last couple of seasons and concentrated offense on McDavid and Draisaitl. This strategy obviously doesn't work in the playoffs. I fully expect to see the Oilers miss the playoffs. 1
Popular Post grumpyone
coaching is not the problem....they need an NHL calibre goalie and more than 2 d-men. oh and their expensive forward stars need to play some defence, too. 2 5 1

Popular Post Whaleroad Train
They get rid of a decent coach and bring in a wrecking ball in Evander Kane. This will end well. 3
thedestroyerofworlds
Their issues have been goaltending and defensive play. Has been for a while now. Yet, their solution is Kane and firing the coach. 1
Master Mind
Were they really thinking signing Kane would turn it all around? Surprised this didn't happen a bit sooner when the Oilers began their plummet, even though it's not all on his shoulders. No coach will be able to make the team a contender with the current lack of depth, defense, and goaltending. YEGCanuck
The Oil have systemic problems that go far beyond coaching. Suspect management decisions that in any other private corporation would be grounds for termination.
King Heffy
No point in changing coaches unless the new guy has the balls to put McDiver in the press box if he keeps refusing to backcheck.
Popular Post rekker
At what point does Rogers Wonderboy, McMeMe, start taking some blame? His and Draisatel's lack of any defensive game, as leaders of the team, is atrocious. Think back to Hank and Dank, look up their plus-minus. They were rock stars. Kesler, Burr, same thing. 1 4

McDavid was 5th in TOI for their forwards........maybe that's why Tippett got axed.

Popular Post HKSR
To VAN: Draisatl (50% retained) To EDM: Boeser Halak 7th Round Pick Why Vancouver does it: Draisatl is an up and coming super duper star. At 50% retained, he's a super duper ooper star. Why Edmonton does it: They get a goalie that can stand in front of the net sometimes. Boeser wants more money... oil money in Edmonton can pay for it. 7th round pick as a sweetener. 1
Popular Post Fanuck
Said it before, say it again: Tippet to Holland, "We need a legit goalie that can stay healthy or our season is doomed." Holland to Tippet, "How about a known team-cancer winger with character issues - problem solved!". 4
combover
The goaltending is a joke. doesn't matter who you have on the team or coaching if the goaltender can’t stop a beach ball.
NUCKER67
Really SN650? I was listening earlier this morning, and then suddenly big sounds!! and Breaking News! "Oh this is seismic", said one of the radio guys. Then, they announce this. Who the hell cares? The Oilers have sucked with the best player on the planet since Gretzky, for the last 8 years. Move them to Quebec City. I was expecting a Canucks trade or something, considering it was Breaking News to Canucks fans.
