VegasCanuck
Wow, with his trial pending, I wonder what else he did to breach his contact. So much talent, so few brains. https://thehockeynews.com/.amp/news/former-canucks-forward-virtanen-released-from-khl-team Edited March 8, 2022 by VegasCanuck
Popular Post Roger Neilsons Towel
I would suspect he’s just leaving Russia because of the war like many others. Breached contract by leaving. 1 2 5

Gurn
2 likely reasons for leaving 1- personal safety. 2- the money. If you get paid in Rubles, and the Ruble is now 20% of what it was worth last week; why continue to work?

Also with the pay thing, even if he gets paid in usd his team might not have that much to pay him with at this point 1

higgyfan
Jake hasn't played a game in Russia since Christmas. He likely came home for Christmas and didn't return because his trial had originally been pegged for February. By not returning to Russia, he breached his contract with the team.

Nah the title is misleading. He didn't want to return to Russia due to the war. He even had lawyers na his agent look into his contract to see if there was an out because of the war. There was a time that The Hockey News was a reliable source of information but that time has long passed. It's no better than hockey Trade rumors at this point. Coconuts
How dare he care about his personal safety. I get that with the whole legal bit going on people's perception of Jake has changed, but using this to try and dunk on him is ghoulish. 1 1

Was said earlier in some thread on here that KHL players routinely get paid in cash weekly in a bag from owner/management. So between safety, ruble not worth tissue paper and the league owners' worth crashing there are many reasons for him to leave.
Bounce000
“Virtanen will have to pay 2/3 of the remaining amount of his contract” Well if he’s getting paid in Rubles I’m sure he can send over a piggy bank full of beer bottle caps, considering it’s equal value.
