Despite being a two-time Stanley Cup champion and current holder of the NHL’s ironman streak with almost 1,000 consecutive games played, Phil Kessel might be better known in some hockey circles as the NHL superstar with a fabricated soft spot for fast food.

During the Arizona Coyotes’ 7-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks last Thursday at Rogers Arena, Kessel was reminded of his supposed fascination with the tasty snack when a Canucks fan filmed himself throwing a hot dog on the ice for the star forward.

The TikTok made by user _thomascon, since deleted, shows the fan buying a hot dog from an arena vendor, walking up to the glass and launching it onto the ice during a break in play.

The Canucks organization and arena staff are working to identify the fan, according to the Daily Hive.

“What he did was completely disrespectful and not welcome at Rogers Arena. We won’t stand for it and are in the process of identifying this guy and determining what our next steps will be,” a Canucks spokesperson told the Daily Hive.

Kessel’s reputation for enjoying the occasional hot dog originated from a story from Toronto Sun reporter Steve Simmons in 2015, following the 34-year-old’s trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the report, Simmons alleged that Kessel would frequent a hot dog vendor near his Toronto home on a daily basis, a claim that was denounced at the time and has since been debunked.

The Madison, Wisconsin native eventually poked fun at the rumour, posing with a handful of hot dogs sitting in the Stanley Cup on a golf course following his second consecutive championship win with the Penguins in 2017.

Quite the dumbarse thing to do.

Mix bad decision making with too much booze and this is what happens.

Aside from this individual being a goof the only missing is an inward look with arena staff themselves to determine if they oversold the booze a bit to this individual.

Doubt they’ll have much trouble tracking this guy down. He’s definitely not hiding. Looks like he has around five different TikTok accounts that are still public with a bunch of videos showing him, his home, various family members, etc.

And even that “deleted” TikTok is still up. Just got moved over to one of his alts.
