[Rumour] Canucks interested in Ethan Bear

Pretty much. I like Bear for what he is, in a vacuum. But he's largely more of what we already have and doesn't actually fill any short term holes, or the long term caverns in our top 4/right side.

Pretty much, he's a likeable player but he doesn't move the needle at all for me.

well to get a very good RD, it will cost to much...so ya JR has to play his cards on bear etc type players

We don't need a Bear type player though, we already have third pairing RD who can bring his kind of game in Schenn, Poolman, and Burroughs.

Sub 6', should be right up our alley. Damn shame he's right handed. Seems like we favor lefties. On the real though, I like Bear. But I dunno. He's an improvement on Juulsen, sort of, but doesn't bring anything we desperately need. Which is defensive prowess and some form of physicality. If they take some middling prospect for him or Dickinson/Pearson I'd be okay with it I suppose. But again, I feel like it doesn't change the team much if at all. Unless he has a massive breakout year.

Is there some type of confirmation that JR/PA were trying to trade Pearson?  Or is it just speculation on your part based on their comments?

Which GM is going to openly confirm that they are trying to trade players.  Was mentioned by the usual in media.

Who else would they have been trying to trade?  They stated that they wanted to try to get faster and younger - Pearson is not young or fast and will probably not be part of their contending window.  Seems like a rather logical trade candidate to give his spot to someone that could be.

We need a right handed defenseman that can defend and is young.

His track record is impressive. His junior career as well as his AHL stats have hyped him, maybe a bit too overhyped, but he’s still got massive potential.

He’s not going to get the chance to really prove himself with that stacked Hurricanes d core.

Great skater, smart, and has offensive upside. His defensive game isn’t bad either, just around the middle of the pack. He could be a guy to breakout given the right circumstances. There’s a reason why he was regarded as one of the best young defensive prospects at one point. The pandemic definitely set him back but it seems to be the theme with a lot of these younger players.

I think we let the season start and develop..

Mid to end of November is a good assessment time .

Waivers could equalize or cap if needed.

If a deal comes along in the meantime that can’t be refused then jump on it..

Bear isn’t really going to change much of what’s going on..   something else might.

It seems logical, but it is also based on just your speculation, not actual facts to back it up.  Of course no GM is going to openly confirm who they are trying to trade.  For all we know JR/PA could actively be shopping Horvat as we speak.

Teams are capped out so a guy like Pearson would be hard to move regardless of whether he has positive value or not.  They could certainly move him for money in, money out, but trying to find a team that has a player in a different position on a similar cap hit would be difficult.

Would much rather see a Garland for Pesce trade  with Carolina.  He would be the defensive conscience for Hughes and would allow the Canucks to play Meyers with OEL, allowing OEL to re-establish his offensive game with Meyers around to back him up.  The Canucks actually have too many forwards and could stand to move one out so potential top six forwards are not pencilled in for fourth line duty.  Why settle for Ethan Bear, when you could pay a little more for a quality defender who could play with Hughes for the next five to six seasons?

Pesce is a staple on Carolina’s defense and is a borderline top 10 RD. It’ll take a lot more than just Garland to get Carolina to be even remotely interested in moving him.

so we want to spend another 2.2mil on the cap for another 5/6 defenseman? you guys are just magically praying poolman will be on LTIR even though PA already said he expect poolman to be there at the start of camp.. so assuming Poolman say he's ready.. we want to spend almost 5mil on 2 bottom pairing defenseman? and have one of them as a 7th?

Of course this is a year old but does show some things.   He's playing 3rd pairing minutes, on a very good team, especially a defensively sound one.   Nothing eye popping other then like Dermott, he fits the age group of guys we need to add to our team to fill that gap on the D.

As for Hogs, he's as of right now, our 13th man and possibly playing in the AHL to start the season anyways.   We'd be trading one of our cost controlled assets, for a guy who's not far from free agency.    Hogs didn't have a great second season, but we've seen what he can accomplish too.   This would be a fair trade.   And well, aside from Myers, we don't have another legit top four NHL D.   Bear actually has decent offense for his minutes ... And has done enough to prove he belongs in this league ... just not sure if he's the right guy.   Wouldn't be hard to jam his cap hit in this season.

If it's not Hogs then maybe it's Rathbone.  He doesn't really have a spot on the left side, and not sure he's suited for a 3rd pairing role either.   If i had to choose between the two, i'd actually keep Rathbone simply because we don't have any other NHL fringe tweeners in the system.

This deal would have more to do with trying to find a guy in the right age range to advance his game enough to stick in the future.    It's not a lot of cap percentage.    We can't expect to find a Schenn every season to play with QHs.   Doubt Bear is that guy though ... that's one heck of a tiny pairing lol.    Maybe OEL though, who knows.   It doesn't matter if it's Poolman or Bear really, but of the two, Bear actually has shown more given he stated much younger in the NHL.   What is concerning, is his games played.  71 as the high water mark.  Of course some of this is because he's a depth D, 3rd pairing guy so far.

A little more?   Try Horvat.    Doesn't matter anyways, CAR doesn't have the cap space.    Sure you never know, but the cost would be pretty steep.

Hey you just never do know for sure.   Quin paid a second for Lumme ... who became one of the teams best all time D's, our teams number one really during the Linden era ... whenever I see a guy on the PK flip the puck high in the air, a slow long lob, right away i think of Lumme.   Don't know why more guys don't do that ... he was a fixture on both special teams, and was pretty darn good.    Bear?   Seems like a low risk modest reward move.    Who knows, maybe with some more responsibility, he shines.    And it's nice to have options.

Dermott and Bear, would be well, in a way this teams versions of Vey and the other Bear, with the exception that they've already made the cut.   And are just trying to make the next step.   Factually both are playing for their NHL career still ...

Adding depth to our D isn't a bad idea, especially on the right side.    And don't see how this would cost us much.   Unless other teams also are interested..::if the ask gets too high then just cut bait.
