[Report] UPD: NHL to release up to 8 players involved in 2018 Team Canada assault

Tweet continued: 

If NHL names and suspends players allegedly involved, affected players would likely appeal any sanctions to an arbitrator, as per CBA, and may pursue defamation lawsuits vs league, said agent of one player who attended 2018 Hockey Canada gala. (While an investigating officer in October wrote in court documents he believes there are grounds to charge at least five players, police in London continue to decline comment other than to say an investigation is ongoing.)

Suspensions are letting the guilty players off easy.  Should be a lifetime ban for everyone involved.

If Hockey Canada wants to regain ANY credibility whatsoever they need to publish the full findings of their investigation (while obviously respecting the victims rights/privacy) and it should come with swift & just consequences for any guilty parties. 

 

Furthermore both the IIHF and the NHL need to enact their own punishments on any guilty parties.

So, I wonder if the reason that this has been taking so long is because it implicates some higher end names who are now in the league.

 

There are some names on that team would are going to leave substantial holes if they are suspended or banned from the NHL.

 

Imagine the impact if they had to suspend Cale Makar?

Let's see an open report before we jump our guns on this. This should have been investigated properly years ago, but Hockey Canada has dropped the puck again.

Cale Makar didn't go to the event and was on vacation during that time.

Agreed, but there has to be a reason why it has taken this long. Most teams were expecting it around the start of last season.

It was some of the CHL guys. Makar was a college boy. Suspend the guilty ones for ever. No nhl career.

There's no way this gets pinned on anyone other than Formenton.  It's alleged gang rape and he is going to get scapegoated.  If anyone here is expecting anything close to actual justice, keep dreaming.

I googled 2018 Canada U20 team ? Some very good NHL players on that team. Will be interesting when they make there final decision who is guilty?

I'm quite certain one of the main reasons for the delay was NOT the actual investigation itself,  rather the lengthy consultation Hockey Canada had with numerous lawyers/PR firms trying to figure out their 'exposure' on this depending on how they rigged the findings and who they decided to scapegoat.   

 

Covering ones A$$ from a PR/legal mess like this takes time,  a lot of time.

Is this the actual list of players who attended the event or just players who may have attended?

That was just the roster, Makar was not there or even in the country

That's kind of what I was insinuating... I think they have had the results for a long time and are just trying to figure out how to de-escalate them.

 

They are waiting for a really big news day, massive natural disaster. Then they can break the news and it will get shuffled off the front page faster...

Interesting when looking at the players that have gone unsigned so far.

 

Foote, Comtois, and Gadjovich. Could very well be that these guys just aren’t in demand but you gotta think at this point teams would be given a heads up if any of these guys were involved. 
 

I thought it was strange that Foote was let go by Nashville considering where they’re at. I hope he wasn’t involved. Last thing we need is more distractions involving one of our coaches and his son.

I agree, one can only wonder why some of these players have not yet received contract offers. 

 

It is way past time this issue is dealt with by Hockey Canada. It is also time the NHL took a stance and set standards or a basic code of conduct for their players and publicize same inclusive of penalties.
