What a great signing.

One of my favourite Canucks' player in recent history.

Agreed, but you kind of have to ignore the fact that he was in our system ( AHL contract ? ) in 2011/12. We were unaware of what we had. He moved on to 5 1/2 solid seasons in Dallas.

Invaluable.  Great signing.

Get rid of Schaller, and Beagle though....

Schaller for sure, Beagle's holding his own though as a defensive center, esp. since Sutter can't seem to stay healthy.

Without Jay, Bo would be even more defensively oriented.  Not that Gaud isn't improving each game, but why not let Bo fully reach his offensive potential by insulating with defensive minded centers?

Back on topic, I'm a big Roussel fan too.  Didn't know he had this offensive dimension and great to see another top-6 level wing addition.  Goldie and Baertschi potentially replaced with Pearson and Roussel isn't bad at all, there's more of that competitive edge needed to win.

He is a little overpaid but I'd much rather get rid of Brandon "more injury prone that Salo" Sutter. We need at least one vet center defensive specialist in our bottom 6 but we shouldn't be paying that much to have 2.

edit: just saw that poster above me already said the same thing

We will keep Beagle and Roussel.  Sutter and Tanev are trade at the draft for picks, or to move up in a round.

Agree on Sutter, not sure on Tanev.

I think we have young D coming along who replace Tanev.  Stecher comes to mind.  Gaudette replaces Sutter, and Stecher replaces Tanev.  I’m wondering if Hutton replaces Edler?  Then with Hughes and OJ coming, we might have cap space for a guy like EK?

Unless I misheard, I think Green just said Roussel is out for the year. Pretty rough blow. He's had a career year. Too bad it had to be cut short. I would've liked to see him push close to 40 points.

I heard the same clip I believe.   Aside from his slew of penalties,  he was one of the few bright spots of the team this season along with Marky, Hutton,  and of course EP obviously.

Edit-found some confirmation:

He had a fantastic season, really gave the lineup a jolt. Brought that "intangible" we haven't had since Burrows and Kesler were around pissing people off every night.

Ex-players always talk about how certain guys "pulled the team into the fight" and Roussel is a great example of that.

Great season points wise for his role, especially when you consider most of them were 5-on-5. Not to mention a lot of them were off scoring chances he directly created, seemingly few phantom 2nd assists.

Sorry to hear Roussel just had acl surgery and recovery time is likely 7 months. Makes it about December 2019  before he plays and realistically Jan/Feb 2020 before he's feeling back to normal.

You had a great year Antoine. Great to have you play so well that you reminded everyone of burrows!  Bon chance and see you next year!

Ps. Everyone wants you back as soon as possible. You're gonna do some great things in Vancouver!

Him likely to start on the IR will likely open a spot for MacEwen or perhaps prolongs Schaller or Granlund's tenure next season.

No one brings the level compete like how he does.  Hope he comes refreshed ans the knee doeant alow the kind of robust game he plays.

To a limited extent Roussel demonstrated an ability to move up and down the lines. Add his abrasiveness and I give him a lot of cred. Ignoring legalities of contracts I would move Ericksson and Schaller along and keep Roussel, Mott and Granlund.

So with Roussel all but certainly missing the start of the season and out possibly until xmas Does his Cap hit count against us on opening night or just when we activate him off IR?

You have to be cap compliant to start the season. All contracts I believe.
