Popular Post oldnews
Not going to comment on the reality of it until it's official. But I will say this - anyone that complains about the possibility of this being 4 years - need to give their head a shake. The thing is - the expansion draft is putting a monkey wrench in the legitimate negotiating rights/leverage of Edler. By all rights, he's worth and would easily command more money than is being speculated about on the free agent market. Now take the need to protect him out of the equation as well - and Edler enjoys free agent frenzy terms. In other words, he would easily get 4 if not more term on the free market - and he'd with ease command considerably more than 5-5.5 million, if those terms are relatively accurate. Edler is compromising on both sides of the ledger - term and cap - and additionally, he's compromising on flexibility / limiting clause - which makes these kinds of terms a two way hometown discount for the Canucks. This team is not yet contending either, so while this fan base has gotten used to hometown discounts from the Sedins, Hamhuis, etc right on through the lineup, the context has changed, yet if these 'reports' turn out to be true, Edler will have re-upped with that kind of team consideration imo. Imo the absolute best-case scenario may have been a higher cap hit at 2 years, with no risk to either side of expansion - but the cap savings represent a counter-value that could turn out better for the Canucks - or buffer them in the expansion draft if Edler is selected = he just took one for the team. Hard to argue with any aspect of this range of rumours if it falls within these parameters in the end. 2 5

Doubt Seattle would waste a pick on a guy that would be there 1 year. Was just thinking this. Did Eddie asking for 4 just seal his fate that Seattle takes him? One year left they for sure say nay, but two years left they may say yay.

In the end I just dont see them taking a dman of Eddys age. Eddy will be 35 at the expansion draft.
khay
5-5.5 is a pretty fair value if it's for 4 years. He will be a top 4D for the first 2 years of the contract and should get paid around 6-6.5. The latter 2, he might be on the 3rd pairing, and probably around 3.5-4.5 range. If it's for 3 years, I think the Edler gave the Canucks a discount. I'm happy that he is back. We couldn't afford to lose Edler, replacing him would have been very hard.

Ristolainen isn't going to be easy to trade for. You're looking at minimum a 1st and a prospect. Gardiner and Risto are offensive dmen that have below average defensive capabilities. The difference is one we get without giving assets. I'd strongly prefer not acquiring a defenseman who can't play defense. Weber, Larsen, and Pouliot were bad enough. Seems fair. He has always taken below market to help the team. Hope he retires a Canuck. Did the Canucks sign Myers? Or are they going to?

Unlikely for a 35 year old to do so especially as Hughes will take over PP time but you never know.

I do, obviously depends who else will be available but I think he will be a good option for them. Also depends if he has a full NTC in his last year. 5nothincanucksohno
Can't believe anyone is complaining about the reported deal...great deal. If the Canucks can bring his minutes down to 17 or 18 per game I expect he will be much more durable. 1

BlastPast
If it is in fact a 4 year deal , he will be 36 for the entire reg. season of the final year. Giordano could win the Norris tonight at 35. There are a number of defensemen who remain effective well into their thirties. 1
