I honestly think Horvat is somewhat wasted on the third line. I think that, if we do end up with Hughes, Pettersson slides over to the wing.

Agreed. Can't really see Bo ever being a 3C

      Pettersson - Hughes - Boeser

      Dahlen - Horvat - Virtanen ?

  2. Glad Troy Stecher is our only RD player that can be projected with us long term because what a class act. Great player.

On a side note. Don Cherry is a joke.

@smithers joe- haha dont get me wrong. Woo's projection is a top 4 player and I believe he can be that, but he still needs to do it.

Stecher is the only professional RD player we currently have that can be projected to be here in 3 years. Woo, Rafferty and Chatfield all might prove to be NHLer's but nothing is guaranteed.

    3. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

The Flyers got to the Finals with an entire blueline consisting of six left side D.  Course, one of those six was Chris Pronger (in his prime).  Now, all we gotta do is get/acquire a behemoth like that.:P

    4. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Jet Woo, Brogan Rafferty are going to be here sooner rather than later.

Sign Schenn, he's a good soldier and his play down the stretch deserves at least another 1 year contract.

  3. Great opening night game. Goldy and Pettersson are so damn skilled together!

Only issue with this game was Boeser looked quite bad turnovers and no offensive contributions. Im sure he'll bounce back sooner or later but not a great start to the season for him.

    1. Drive-By Body Pierce

      Drive-By Body Pierce

Boeser did look a step behind a few times.

    2. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Boeser had some slower moments, but he also had some really good looking moments. I'm not too worried about him just yet.

    3. Drive-By Body Pierce

      Drive-By Body Pierce

Hopefully he can get his legs going, maybe why he missed the first 2 games last season. :o

...That and when his Fortnite addiction is under control when banned on the 6-game road trip. :P

      Holy OVER-reaction sports media!

  4. Helge Grans

This is the guy I want this coming draft. Hopefully as a second rounder

  5. Honestly think theres a chance Gaudette makes the team out of camp, even ahead of Pettersson. Don't get me wrong I think Pettersson makes the team pretty quick here but wouldn't be disappointed to see Gaudette make the team out of camp and Pettersson start the season centring Uticas top line with Dahlen and Lind.

Gaudette just looks more NHL ready, not more talented, and not a better player then Pettersson in the long run, but more ready for the rigours of the centre ice position in the NHL.

There's no chance in hell Pettersson plays in Utica. He's a potential Calder winner.

      huh?

      based on what

1 game against not yet ready nhl prospects ?

where elias had an off game but still got 3 points ?

cdc never ceases to amaze me

how about we wait until tourney is over

      training camp has happened

and we see how these prospects do in preseason

this so quick to judge/ assess approach

      is mind boggling

you really think this is how team management

      and coaches assess talented prospects

damn we do live in such an instant society

  6. I don't care if the Canucks win but it would be nice to see them score a goal at least.

On a side note I think Goldy is looking very good tonight!

    1. Jam126

      Jam126

Hasn't this happened every March for the past 3 seasons where the Canucks only score 1 goal every 3 games?

  7. I hate the no kicking rule.

NHL wants to increase scoring so why not?

Maybe make the rule you can't kick the puck in the crease or something.

      NewbieCanuckFan

Well the NHL has met you halfway RetroCanuck.  Any kicked in goal against us counts as a goal (game 7 OT goal in our series with the Flames the year they won the Cup).  But any goal that *appears* to be directed via a kick by us is automatically disallowed.

    3. Pears

      Pears

I mean if we’re being technical it’s because this is hockey and not soccer.

  8. If Edler is traded deadline day then he only misses 20 games as a Canuck.

Reverse way of saying it is if we trade Edler, yet promise him a contract next season, we lose him for 20 games (which could happen due to injury anyways). There are others we could audition during that time as well such as Hughes, McEneny, Sautner, Brisebois or any other players picked up in trades.

We will lose majority of those games, but is that such a bad thing considering the place we are in this rebuild. In many ways it would be silly to not trade him for such a short time assuming he see's it the same way.

    1. -AJ-

      -AJ-

I think there are almost no fans who would disagree with trading Edler at the TDL, but many (me included) see it as a pipe dream. Trades and re-signs are something all fans want, but it almost never happens.

    2. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

It's not a matter of what management or fans want.

It's a matter of will Edler waive his NTC?

Edler himself has stated if he does move he's probably not coming back.

So much for the trade him and sign him in the offseason.

  9. If Toronto really does go all in this year and gets another RD then I can't see them any worse then the eastern conference final. Scary to imagine them with a good D core compared to what they play with now. Imagine if they did get Tanev. and went with this

    Reilly-Haisey

    Gardiner-Tanev

    Muzzin-Zaitsev

    1. ReggieBush

      ReggieBush

I still think they lose to Boston round one. Bruins are in their head

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

You may be right. Maybe Guddy would be a better fit so he can take Marchand out haha

  10. It would be stupid not to try and trade a forward this offseason. No reason to lose an asset if you can get a pick out of it. No reason to worry about competition with prospects such as Pettersson, Gaudette, Dahlen, MacEwen, Jasek, Lind fighting for spots. Also if one wants more competition we could sign some PTOs.

In the end we should clear some room so we don't lose valuable assets

    4. combover

      combover

Waivers and buy outs are more likely the only way vancouver can clear a roster spot.

Gagme has no value, eriksdone has been worthless and would cost us a pick to move,  bearcheese not sure how much value he has even he’s been a warm and cold player that’s been heathy scratched or long term injured every year he’s been in the nhl,not sure he’s a top 6 on most nhl teams.  And we keep signing veteran 3/4liner ufas to 3-4 year deal with m-ntcs.

This is benning last season here (finger crossed) his 31st place team and empty area (again) will end him. The plug love will stop and hopefully ownership see then need a GM with a spine not a sniveling clueless puppet.

The only tradable players on this team are the ones that we can’t afford to move.

Trade from a position of strength so we can trade 4th liners and bottom pair d men.

Cant wait to see who we draft 4th oa.

Too bad the expansion draft isn’t this season we couldn’t lose a valuable asset if we tried.

  11. Lines could be stacked in the future

    _____-Pettersson-Goldobin (ultimate skill)

Dahlen-Horvat-Boeser (Hard working two way line)

Virtanen-Gaudette-Lind (hard to play against in so many ways)

Gadjovich-Gaunce-Granlund (Shutdown line with some skill)

    Lockwood

    Juolevi-____

    Pouliot-Stetcher

    Tryamkin-Chatfield

    Brisebois-McEneny

    Demko

    Dipietro

Thats pretty good since we still have a couple years of rebuild left. Have to appreciate Bennings ability to find talent in the draft. With future drafts and more unknowns that could arise as good players such as Rathbone, Candella, Brassard, Palmu you have to be excited.

Excited we will most likely be picking at the top of the draft again. I see 2 big holes in our lineup. A top line LW/C and a top RD. Luckily one of those needs can be filled in the coming draft.

If Jake's offensive game doesn't pick up in the next year, he probably won't be in Van.  There's only so much patience that they'll show with him before they replace him with someone new.

I've thought Goldobin has looked solid the last couple weeks and his skill is amazing. He may need a little sheltering but I think he will be in our long term plan

  12. Look at that. Leafs don't fix their defense, and have allowed 23 goals in their last 4 games as Andersson tires.

Rumour hasit they're converting Nylander into a Norris calibre Dman this summer.

Like, the guy wouldn't really have to change much as is, he's so responsible and gritty. Best signing ever.

A guy who can play every position.

      Hahah- suck it chranna

    3. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Craig Button has brought it up several times this season, but the Leafs are often way too aggressive when pressuring the puck carrier. When you spend that much time chasing players around, it's inevitably going to lead to blown coverages and odd man situations.

The Leafs coaching staff needs to realize that they don't have the horses to play defense consistently this way and make some adjustments.

    4. Boeserker

      Boeserker

      Babcock is overrated.

  13. McDavids an entitled joke. "I didn't expect to get suspended"... even though it was a clear hit to the head.

If someone had hit McDavid like that he'd be crying like the Manning incident and then that player would be suspended minimum five games.

That entire organization is a joke and that includes all the players in it.

Jets don’t re-up Myers because...?  ( they have a fair bit of cap space available)

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

They don't have that much cap space. Trouba, Laine, Conner and Brossoit all need new deals this offseason among other smaller cap hit guys like Tanev and Petan. Also Wheelers new deal kicks in. So who knows but they have some expensive contracts coming up.

    4. 40Dangles

      40Dangles

@@NewbieCanuckFan Jets have little cap space when you consider what Retro just said. Also on the right side they have Buff, Trouba, and Meyers. Buff is making 7.6 for 2 more years, Trouba is making same as Meyers at 5.5 and is a RFA and is ahead of Meyers on the right side and younger. They cant afford 3 RD making 7.6, 7, and 6.5. Not to mention reupping Laine (who's going to get 10+) Connor, this year, and Morrisey in a year, etc https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/jets

I think his goal has always been to make the playoffs and draft well.

Now we have a good chance to do that, and depending on his future trades and signings, it may be guaranteed.

If we make the playoffs, our 2020 1st would be 16-31.
