with a lot of modifications. People are over blowing this imo.

Have read the revisions.  It is absolutely nothing what they feared it would be.  Now it's just a scary boogy man like the NEP or long gun registry

We all knew he was a good player but people would be lying if they thought he’d be this good on Montreal. Wonder if he keeps it up over the next couple years

    4. #Canucks

      #Canucks

@Devron44 I agree, no one knew he was going to be this good. However he has always been a difference maker against the Canucks. I hated him in LA when we played them.

  3. Man what I wouldn't give to have Gallant coach this team...

Another year of McDavid as a playoff bustaroo.  And shouldn’t McLoseInThePlayoffs get the puck deep on that overtime goal?  Selfish play.

what I really like about PM tho is how he structures his F lines and makes them so hard to play against, we really need that.

But I'd like to see what Gallant could do too. Or maybe get AV back.

I think Green's a great guy, but at this stage, I don't think Vancouver needs someone like Green right now. Maybe he'll go on to be a better coach, but he's not doing it for us now. Making excuses about the roster being not good enough is insufficient; he's had progressively improving rosters throughout his time here, with minimal results, except last year. Green's roster is SO MUCH better than whatever WD ever had, and yet their win/loss rates are both shockingly similar.

      Time for a new change.

    4. King Heffy

      King Heffy

@Jimmy McGillthat's a big part of why I like him, along with his willingness to hold his stars accountable.  Very similar to what Trotz did in Nashville keeping them competitive despite all the roster changes.

  8. Need to win both against Montreal, probably only one OT point to give.

3/4 at the very least.  If we sweep Montreal this upcoming series we're right back in the mix

    3. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Yeah, 2 points bare minimum against them, but if we win 3 or 4, we're starting to seriously get back in the race. Still chasing from behind, but making it back in becomes more possible.

      smithers joe

did you send the memo to the canadians too, so they know not to try in these 2 games?

  9. This team has the scoring depth of the 06-07 canucks, the defense looks like it's playing against the globetrotters every game, and our goalies exude as much confidence as a nerd on prom night.

    1. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Pretty spot on lol, the goalie treats every shot like it's his date -- it's the one that got away.

    2. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

That 2006-07 team was top five in goals against.  So while they often had trouble scoring, they wouldn’t let the opposition score either.  This current team seems to have the opposite problem.

    3. c00kies

      c00kies

That's true, but we played very defensive, had a star goalie, and had the defensive personnel to do it. The 06-07 team had no choice with their lack of scoring outside the Sedins (and an aging Naslund and Morrison), and I feel we're not much different now with our bottom 6.

  10. We have to wait one more year after this for the ugly contacts (Beagle, Roussel, Luongo, Eriksson, etc...) to expire :(

Loui will probably be a buyout.  Beagle is still a very useful 4C so its not like its dead money. Wouldn't mind seeing Roosters deal moved. We will also lose salary in expansion.

Things are actually looking pretty good for next season Cookies, its not despair time yet.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Schmidt is going to be tricky. And people will complain no matter what.

Trade him now for a pick and a prospect. Likely the team won't improve short term.

Hold onto him, he may lose value as a trade piece.

    4. canuktravella

      canuktravella

no to trading schmidt  he will be better next yr when  more cap available plus tryamkin and podzolkin coming in

  11. This team is officially worse than a Willie Desjardins team. Little offense, lack of depth, worst defense in the league, meh goaltending, and poor special teams. Watching this team play almost makes me cry...

  12. Hughes is projecting to be a more skilled Keith Yandle, which isn't a bad thing.

Yandle doesn't care. That's why he hasn't figured it out over 15 years. Hughes will be a different story.

    3. canuktravella

not sure why yandle not converted  to be a forward

    4. c00kies

      c00kies

Getting offense as a dman is much different than as a forward.

  13. Vancouver didn't re-sign TT who ends up being Montreal's best player lol. That's embarrassing and really hard to defend on JB's part.

      @canuktravella I would support that 100%

  14. I'm hoping we can turn it around, because we're playing at a level similar to the Willie Desjardins days.

Well I mean, I've been doing that for pretty much 6 months already, but to not even be able to see my own sisters sucks, especially since this could have been prevented with smarter provincial government.

holy crackers, that is expensive, those guys aren't even cap dumps they are solid talent.

thats pretty much like giving up pre-captain Horvat to dump Loui.

    3. #Canucks

      #Canucks

Yzerman has got that swagger around the league. Only he could pull this off. Would be exciting for the fans in Detroit!

    4. D-Money

      D-Money

Killorn is an excellent player, and Johnson ain't so bad himself. Detroit will be a much better team next year with those 2 around...if they keep them (as opposed to retaining and flipping them at some point).

  17. Still would have liked to see Toffoli re-signed for what he got in Montreal.

    2. Where's Wellwood

      Where's Wellwood

I believe in Hoglander and Podkolzin coming over within 2 years. So 4 years of Toffoli was too much

    3. c00kies

      c00kies

@Where's Wellwood I assume that's Jim's thinking too, but we easily could have had him for 2 years then traded him out kept him as a top 9 (if we weren't tied with our bottom 6 contracts).

    4. Where's Wellwood

      Where's Wellwood

That's what people said about the Beagle, Roussel, and Sutter contracts though. That they were long but they were tradeable once someone else deserved that roster spot. No teams are biting on these types of contracts from us in their final 1 or 2 years.

Just imagine if all these 'bad' contracts were just one year shorter. We'd be out from Baer, and Sutter already. Roussel, Eriksson, and Beagle would only have one year left and would be over before Petey and Hughes need new contracts. Every one of those contracts is just one year too long from really being no problem at all.

I'd rather not sign Toffoli for 4 years and then find out 2 years later that no one will take him from us.

  18. Saw that hall might be going to Montreal lol

      JM_

who do they trade to make that happen?

I dont know their cap situation haha.

    3. Chickenspear

      Chickenspear

With Romanov signing this season, they might be able to part with Chairot.. gives them over $6m in cap. Or Drouin/Tatar.

  19. Wonder who will pair with Hughes now

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

I don't worry about WHOEVER Hughes defensive partner is (as he'll probably have the puck).  Looking more & more like a legit #1 D.

It's when he's not on the ice...I worry.

  20. If I'm not mistaken, Markstrom leaving in free agency ends the Linden trade tree.

    1. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

Indeed. Sweet mileage from a single 1988 pick!

  21. Crawford going to FA, he's got an interesting resume.

I think Hall signs with a legit contender for a bit of a pay cut (7.5M)

    1. Quantum

      Quantum

I think you're right on Hall. I think he takes a 1 or 2 year deal and goes to Colorado.

  22. It's like watching a pesky Switzerland team try to keep up with Canada, but it's somehow working haha.

    3. c00kies

      c00kies

It was rumoured back when the Sedins were just starting to take over as the leaders of the team, though I do wonder how everything would have panned out had this happened. I think Jokinen was a case of "big fish, small pond" in Florida.
