With 43 games remaining, how should Travis Green turn the ship around?

we are building. there will be pain now but the future looks bright. enjoy their try, on the way to valhalla. we wait for pettersson, dahlen, gaudette, lind, gadjovich, juolevi and our draft picks this year. and maybe chatfield and brisebois, demko and a healthy line up. if you can't wait, maybe root for the maple leafs. they are further ahead in their rebuild.

Even that we aren't winning the majority of games, this is the most excited I've been about the Canuck's since the cup run!

Green has turned around the team, even the Sedin's have benefited and look like they actually have gas in the tank.

2-3 more years and the rebuild will be complete.

Exciting times, the ship is already on the right course!

According to Wikipedia, Travis Green won the $345,000 in poker tournaments, including events at the World Series of Poker. He had some strategies and won the tournament.

Winning the poker tournament is different from winning the hockey games. There are only 43 games remaining.

TG is missing so many pieces. (Goaltending, PK specialists, No. 1 centre. .. )

This season, Brock Boeser has been playing so well for the team. But we can't always reply on him.

JB better makes some moves to help out Travis Green.

I am afraid that the Canucks is going to be at the bottom of the in the league by the end of this season.

I think it's ok if they finish outside the playoffs - they intended to be as competitive as possible - imo the professional and best course to take - but it simply wasn't in the cards again this year - and thankfully it coincides with a transition season in which their better case scenarios were probably to be in the 7 to 10 spot in a strong Western Conference.

They've fallen out due to things outside their control.  No shame in that.  Not a big deal if none of these injuries effect their players longer term.

This season is reaching the point where it'll be really hard to manage that uphill sledding - the losses to the roster and the parity in the west make it pretty unlikely to climb back in it - but in either event, getting too attached to results in the short term, it might be better to focus on the longer view.

29 of their remaining games are "4 point" games against western conference teams. They will have to be better than .650 win percentage or better than they have been all year and other teams will be tightening up for their own playoff runs.

They may need 94 points and pass 6 other teams to get a wildcard spot, a tall order, not impossible, but almost another 60 points.

that would be a tall order even if their roster were healthy.

I think the gap is just too large when you factor in how much time before they're potentially healthy.

But:

they looked very good early this year with a reasonably healthy roster

they have some key prospects still on the way

and they may add another high pick in this draft

the next few years should be really fun to watch.

We are going to be an above .500 team again soon.  We were earlier in the season and the reason we dipped below .500 was due to 2/3 of our top line being injured, our beat defenseman being injured among other injures.  And those guys are expected back soon.

We were not expected to even make the playoffs so I don't think the outcome of this season really matters.  As many others have stated, its probably better for the team if we continue below .50p for the best likely draft position.

Its all good.  At least we are getting entertaining hockey and its going to get noticeably better in the next year and two.

Can we hold off on getting back to mediocrity?  I would like us to have the best % chance possible pick as high as possible in the 2018 draft.

I'm fine with how things are going; I think Green has done a great job. The young guns are playing well, and due to injuries we're in a decent lottery spot ATM. Once Bo, Baer, Sutter  and Tanev are back we'll start seeing some more wins.

I'm more interested in what GMJB does at the deadline.

As others have said, the big thing Green needs is a healthy(ish) roster to turn it around.

I know it doesn’t always work out so cleanly but with Bo, Sutter, Baer back we’re adding a goal and preventing another in some of those 1 goal losses. Super doubtful we make playoffs now but I hope we go back to winning our fair share sooner than later, draft position be damned.

In the meantime we kick the tires on selling a vet or two at the deadline and finish where we finish. Take a D prospect: (Dahlin best case scenario... Bode Wilde the worst?)

Sign Gaudette to play a few at the end the year.

Green gets a great look at who he likes and doesn’t like for next season where we really turn it around.

Invent an instant heal machine, use on Horvat, Tanev, Baertschi, Sutter and who ever else gets hurt.

Well you aren't likely to go from one of the worst teams to one of the best.  Gotta be mediocre at some point.

Our time is coming close, and the framework is built. One may argue that bombing this season and getting one more really high pick would help us a lot and they are probably right - but if management can make this team compete they seem insistent on doing that.  I'm pretty much ok either way given the pros and cons but I do think even without one more high pick that we are well on our way to being a contender in about 2-3 years. Naturally its hard to predict all our prospects or know what magic Benning will weave but the future does look bright as it stands.

Would seem brighter with Dahlin, mind you....

Or Brady Tkatchuk too.  Look how CBJ got Seth Jones by trading a top centre - RJ.  I remember the Kings trading JJ to get Carter, kind of their missing piece.  I think we need one more top five type asset.  Two would even be better:)

This ship will continue to sail along it's route for another few years before reaching the shores. We are still in middle of rebuild. We have some promising prospects but not all will make it. Some won't make the NHL and some who we think will be stars might end up being 3rd or 4th liners.

We need luck at the draft and continue to accumulate more top end prospects.

5 years to go before we are a legit contender.

I agree qwith every thing you said except the 5 years to be a contender. I think were there in 3

How does Travis Green turn this ship around?  By putting the left engine in gear and the right engine in reverse then he trolls up and down the coastline til he finds the appropriate place to moor.  It's a tough gig though, the pier pressure can be intense.

+62 to myself
