But also by far his best output in a contract year; the first year he'd cracked 50 points.  His output prior to last season was so consistent I'd be surprised if this wasn't a career year.

Totally possible. If he's a 50-point guy, then this looks real bad. On the other hand, he's only just turned 27, so he's quite young for a standard UFA and it's reasonable to argue that maybe he's just finally reached his prime. Either way, it's a huge risk by Winnipeg to bank on him continuing his 60+ point level.

Has never broken 50 points.  Has never played a full 82 game season.  Prone to bad penalties.  But still defensively responsible, scores more 5v5 than on the pp

Hey, let's give him $7.14 million

They seriously bought out MacDonald and just wasted that space in a day.  GMs cannot control themselves

Did Sutter’s value just go through the roof?  Not entirely the same player but Hayes at 7 or Sutter at 4.4?  Time to trade Sutter and Tanev at a cost certainty premium.

Brandon sutter for a 2nd would’ve been a better deal for them imo and lol.

Hayes is a solid player though.  He’ll help insulate Patrick, but still...  horrible signing.

That feels like a Loui Eriksson / Milan Lucic / Kype Okposo / David Backes type signing. The good news tho!

Is Kevin Hayes is much younger @ 27 years old. Much better situation for Philly imo.

The more I think about it, the worse this contract looks.  Essentially they will be paying 7 million for a 2nd line center for the next year or so.  You'd think Nolan Patrick will be able to step into that role by then, not to mention Morgan Frost.  Eventually the Flyers will be paying 7 million for a 3rd or even 4th line center.  This is just brutal.

If the team were willing to retain salary on either/both of them their value has to be high right now.  A contract like Clarkson in Vegas also has to be worth something for sure (Arizona/Det with Datsyuk)

This team with he 2 years it has left should consider retaining cap on Tanev and or Sutter, as well as trying to maximize remaining space by recouping assets like 1st and 2nd round picks or prospects (TuChicago/Carolina for Bickel and Tuevo)
