skategal
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Dustin Byfuglien, currently on personal leave from WPG, is believed to be using the time to ponder his NHL future. I’m not saying Byfuglien is retiring; I’m not saying he’s coming back to play. Only that he’s contemplating his options and there’s no timetable for a decision. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Neither the Jets nor Byfuglien’s agent Ben Hankinson responded to a request for comment. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Byfuglien is 34 years old. He’s on the fourth year of a five-year contract with an AAV of $7.6M although he is scheduled to earn $8M this season and $6M next season. neo-matrix
I wonder if the organization was aware of this going into last summer. I would feel bad for the Jets if Buff dropped this on them just as the season was about to get under way

Alflives
But ... but how could a player retire and leave all that money due to him? 1

Ghostsof1915
I wouldn't be surprised if Winnipeg with its cap room makes deals to help teams get players off the books.
Popular Post MikeBossy
Winnipeg will do that to a man .......... Just kidding - I lived there from 2017-2018 and folks there are amazing, its absolutely gorgeous in the summer and they love their Jets!!!! 3 2 1
Gaudette Celly
They could certainly use his $7.6mil x2 off the books, but would decimate their D even further.
rekker
Wow. Jets fans gotta think someone out there has a Jets Team voodoo doll or something. Feel for Chevy as I have really admired the team he has assembled. Not looking good. Edited September 19, 2019 by rekker

Maybe they should use their cap room to sign their own RFA guys? Just an idea...... 1
Azzy
Just when you finally start to appreciate the guy Something must be up for him to leave all that money on the table. It would allow the Jets to pay Connor and Laine, but after trading Trouba their D would be one of the worst in the league. It's already ropey as is. peaches5
If he does retire Laine then has to be traded for a Dman. 1

EternalCanuckFan
That is brutal for the Jets. Hopefully Byfuglien is alright. He's had a great career, even if a lot of his success came at the Canucks' expense. Huge blow for the roster if Byfuglien does retire though. Yikes. There has to be a solid market for Laine and Connor though, if the Jets are forced to make significant changes and notwithstanding the overall cap crunch this offseason. Might not be all bad. Popular Post PhillipBlunt
The lure of Lake Minnetonka and a case of Old Milwaukee is too strong for Dustin to resist. 1

HerrDrFunk
Damn, if Byfuglien retires that’s a huge blow to their remaining defense. Winnipeg would have lost Byfuglien, Myers, Chariot, and Trouba over the summer with Trouba being the only one the Jets got a return on.
Elias Pettersson
They should trade Laine for Trouba and a first...
Chickenspear
Seems kinda sh***y to drop that on your team at training camp...
