Western societies have been improving incrementally in race relations for decades. The conditions for blacks to succeed in American society have never been better. Room for improvement? Absolutely. It's difficult to take a societal issues and mandate legislative fixes for them. Society has a far better chance of repairing itself that political interference does. After all, peace is in the hearts of men. It's not 1965 Alabama anymore, we've gotten better. Keep striving.

I just think it's a bit extreme. I would rather the cops try more de-escalation or even let the guy go, and catch up with him later. Pumping 7 shots into his back is a massive over-reaction, and it's easy to see how it may have been influenced by race. The police are not supposed to be judges or executioners.

In any case, the discussion is about far more than this one incident.

Nobody even knows if the woman was the mother of the kids , the threat level to them ..... nothing . This is a dangerous way to push an agenda , especially when there were possibly lots of lives at risk.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/27/white-supremacists-militias-infiltrate-us-police-report

Quote

White supremacist groups have infiltrated US law enforcement agencies in every region of the country over the last two decades, according to a new report about the ties between police and far-right vigilante groups.

In a timely new analysis, Michael German, a former FBI special agent who has written extensively on the ways that US law enforcement have failed to respond to far-right domestic terror threats, concludes that US law enforcement officials have been tied to racist militant activities in more than a dozen states since 2000, and hundreds of police officers have been caught posting racist and bigoted social media content.

The report notes that over the years, police links to militias and white supremacist groups have been uncovered in states including Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.

Police in Sacramento, California, in 2018 worked with neo-Nazis to pursue charges against anti-racist activists, including some who had been stabbed, according to records.

And just this summer, German writes, an Orange county sheriff’s deputy and a Chicago policeman were caught wearing far-right militia logos; an Olympia, Washington, officer was photographed posing with a militia group; and Philadelphia police officers were filmed standing by while armed mobs attacked protesters and journalists.

Just a few bad apples though right.

I agree though,  the issue is ultimately legit , but it does matter how we get there.

Nothing you're saying justifies 7 shots in the back.

Seriously? you want to go there?  Cherrypicking one of Joe's dumb gaffs, compared to the long history of racism by Trump is pretty ballsy.

What I posted isn't a gaffe.  It's Biden speaking his mind very clearly on the black community with no room for misinterpretation.  I'll absolutely go there.

His mentor was Robert Byrd, a KKK member and recruiter.  Just like the stuff he has to say about black people, most of the media won't cover that and let the public make an informed decision.  "Poor kids are as smart as white kids."  Talking about black kids rubbing his hairy legs and jumping on his lap and then saying that's how he "learned about roaches."  Learned about roaches?  What the hell does that mean?

The Crime Bill was authored by Biden.  Now I don't necessarily think that was a case of bad intentions, but that legislation is the perfect example of the hidden systemic racism that is being talked about, and had Trump authored the bill, we would all be hearing about it every day.  Same if Trump had been mentored by Robert Byrd.  Same if Trump had said anything close to what Biden said about the black community having no diversity of thought "with notable exceptions."

So yeah, I don't even like Trump but when it comes to racism, his record is far better than Biden's.  Not even close.  And the reason you don't realize this is probably because you are being given a bowl of projection for breakfast every morning.

If he was a legit threat to the kids or cops lives , and reaching for a deadly weapon would suggest that, then I have to disagree. No idea if he actually did or not though, so who knows .

Here's an idea: DON'T RESIST ARREST!! What's the common denominator is all these incidents? Rap sheet from here to Iraq, resisted arrest, and potentially going for or had a weapon. I don't care what race you are, that's going to get you hurt or killed by the police every time.

In an interaction with the police there are only 2 things you need to do: 1: Do exactly what you are told. No more and no less. Weather you are innocent or not. 2: Do not give attitude and talk back. Answer the questions respectfully. Don't argue.

That's it. 100% of the time you do that, you won't be killed. No matter what race you are.

Norway is a welfare state with a capitalist economy. Now we are talking different things.

Norway is a mixed market economy, with a strong social provision and welfare safety net.

it owns the means of production in the oil industry and other key cornerstone companies/industries and provides free at the point of use health & education.

it is not a capitalist economy.

a lot of people In NA conflate socialism with communism but they are not one and the same. Socialism in its purest form only deals with the production of good not its consumption.

also if you want to split hairs there has been no true socialist state, nor has their been a true capitalist state (following  Laisse faire principles) hell the USA doesn’t eve feature in the top 10 capitalist countries due to its state control over certain sectors and its levels or regulation in others

I went through way too much BS playing in the 90’s. It got so bad I just quit mid game and never went back to play my last eligible year in minor hockey. But that didn’t deter me from signing my son up to play and myself coaching. I’m glad my boy wanted to quit 3 years in. The crap that was spewing out of 6-8 year old kids was outright disgusting. And when we had to bench a kid for being late (again). The racist comments were too much for me. It’s like these parents never taught their kids that there are different looking people that live in northern B.C.

White people aren’t the only ones who are racist.  It goes both ways.  Everyone’s racist to some degree.  But this lady needs her wig to be pulled out from her head!

as far as 7 shots is concerned.   I feel that is due to panic and lack of experience.  1 or 2 shots would suffice but when the adrenaline is pumping + fear, crap happens.   How many police officers actually fired their weapon in the field?  Not many I bet.
