Why take a risk if you're not at risk to begin with. Pregnant women now are OK'd for the vax???!!! Wow. It was always going to be given to kids at some point. The Pfizer study has been out since the end of March. 18 infections in placebo group, 0 in vaccinated group. It was a sure thing. Pregnant people were always going to be given vaccines when it was their turn by age. It just wasn't an issue when we are still doing 52+. Now they are a priority group. Such a waiver could remove obstacles to ramping up the production of vaccines in developing countries. The move comes as coronavirus infections surge to their highest levels in countries that have struggled to procure or distribute vaccines. great idea, but...................... this sounds like socialism. There are still thousands upon thousands of people in older age categories and prioritized working groups who haven't been able to receive their doses due to lack of supply. First responders, teachers, child-care workers are still waiting for vaccines despite the governments vow to prioritize them unfortunately. https://globalnews.ca/news/7821168/bc-front-line-workers-covid-vaccine/ I agree, but to play devil's advocate they have been doing drop in vaccines at lots of pharmacies all over the province. So if someone is that desperate to get a shot they "could" get one in theory. My mother in law went to a pharmacy 2 hours after they started doing vaccines and still was able to get one recently in Kelowna. They should just be bringing a mobile vaccine RV or something and go school to school imo and give staff the option to get the jab!

It isn't an experimental vaccine. Pre clinical experiments were done on animals. All the phases were done like any other drug or vaccine. In fact, trial size is larger than average. The trials were done in parallel as well as production of the vaccine before the results because of the urgent need. That's why it was the fastest vaccine developed. Tons of money and there were so many cases in US it reached the end point fast. If you were to do HPV vaccine, that will take years since your are looking for protection against development of cancer. The difference here is that in a pandemic, you get results fast. The vaccine is safe for pregnant women, and antibodies pass to the infant too. Double protection. I can go on. But it will likely be a waste of time on a hockey forum. Are we the first country to approve it for 12-15? If we include teens into the aged based one dose strategy, I guess it will add another week, till second doses can begin. About 350K 12-17 year olds in bc. Yes. Health Canada got the application and data Apr 16. FDA got it too, EU at the end of Apr. FDA likely to announce approval this week. Alberta was already giving it to high risk children for a while, off label use.

I waited and obtained the European made Pfizer safe vaccine with a much higher efficacy rate and without side effects including possible death in rare circumstances with the A.Z and J&J shots. Even though the odds are 1 in 100,000 that something goes wrong, those odds are still not comforting. When the USA and other normal countries like Denmark and others completely avoid using a product due to safety concerns, you know there's something seriously wrong. The only reason Trudeau allowed its use here was because the Liberal government could not deliver on their promises to get quality vaccine here in time and so they allowed it's use to avoid political embarrassment. Plain and simple! Nonsense. AZ is developed by Oxford University, which is in UK. Astrazeneca is a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company, based in Cambridge. Last time I checked they are both in Europe despite brexit. Canada had imported doses made in US, Korea Europe and India. The company is making them at cost, and allowed multiple factories to make them to supply the world. Serum Institute of India is the largest vaccine supplier of the world. Before you question India's ability or quality, next time you get your medications or get it in a hospital, be aware that pretty much a majority of the drug ingredients are from India. Efficacy data cannot be directly compared. They are derived from different trials, at different locations, patient population, and different times of the pandemic (with different variants of the virus as well as prevelance of the disease). Pfizer has both European and US factories. The current batches to Canada are coming in from Michigan, after the trump ban on export expired in late March. All the vaccines have trial data and real world data to show that it saves lives and reduce hospitalization. I can understand people who are concerned of the rare but seriously risk. Take the vaccine you are comfortable with. But don't spread misinformation that AZ is some 3rd world country junk. UK used AZ for 60% of their doses, and they got out of the last wave. They are allowing people to have rave parties now without masks. Denmark has enough Pfizer to cover their small country (5.8 million) and feel they don't need AZ. But other countries in EU continue to use it. I survived a plane crash in Tanzania in 2017. I know the statistics and air travel is very safe. But I won't go on a small plane ever again. And now even in a 777 or 787, I get anxious flying. People assess risks differently. But I advised my family members to get AZ because that's the first one available. They are all vaccinated early last month and since it takes 2-3 weeks to have a protective effect, they are now protected for this wave. Time is important depending on your job and exposure risk (one works in airport, another in day care). Waiting for a vaccine can cost your life. Those that are dying in the hospitals now or died today, imagine what their love ones are thinking...perhaps if they had a vaccine earlier they would have survived. Many heads of state got AZ, including Boris Johnson, French and Thailand Prime Minister, S Korean President and his wife. JT and his wife, O'tool, NDP leader, ON, BC, AB premiers. Wilbur
Set my vax appointment for Friday evening. May finally shave off my pandemic beard after (I won't regain the weight I've lost over the past year though).
