The closest Canuck team I've ever seen as far as team toughness goes was in 1982 led by Stan Smyl. The Linden led team in 94 was a close second. I used to go to Queens Park Arena and watch Smyl and the Bruins. That was one tough team.

I believe that back in the 70's, especially, is that the game was based on passion, the love of the game. Players had to take jobs in the off-season to supplement their income. Sure, the passion is still there, to some degree. But back then there wasn't the BIG MONEY lure that there is now. Things have changed so much because of that. Now, in this day and age, there are so many liabilities that everyone has to be aware of, and now everyone is playing it safe. And of course, I'm all about safety. But it's removed that extreme element out of the game. It's a shame because that's what we really love. The real passion that makes this game the greatest in the world.
