[Rumor] Nate Schmidt being dealt very soon any minute now

With that signing they'll keep their top-4 intact - Martinez, Pietrangelo, McNabb and Theodore.

that's somewhat irrelevent though - how we perceive their 'top4' / what it is/was.

If you want to knock off a team like Tampa....you can't look at a 'top 4' as adequate.

Tampa had 6 x top 4 defensemen....(imo - and Cal Foote + depth like Schenn...)

that's the gold standard.

If you're Vegas and you have cup dreams -  looking at your top 4 and thinking 'that's adequate' - is debatable whether that perspective is good enough/realistic enough.

The one mitigating thing to consider imo - is that they have notorious difficulty finishing in the playoffs - so while they can improve their blueline, they could also probably use another pure goal scorer in that mix.

Well he does get a say in whether the trade happens as Winnipeg is one of the teams on his 10 team no trade list.

I understand he gets to say yes or no to ten teams.

I don't understand how he gets be the guy that  "declines multiple trade packages that would have sent him to the Jets"

Can't see J.B asking "would you go to Winnipeg if we trade you for a seventh pick?'

'"How about if we trade you to Winnipeg for a 4th pick?"

"Hey, Nate would you go to Winnipeg if we traded you for a a bag of pucks and a pop machine?"

"Nate would you accept a trade to the Jets if the deal is only for futures?"

Vegas also has Whitecloud and Hague that are still developing and should be getting larger roles.

Chandler Stephenson is their C1, they don't have a clear C3 and DeBoer was apparently concerned about their forward depth in the post-season.  Or maybe not.   Would still guess that they are going to try and re-work their forward group before their Ds.

Tampa used 7 Ds in the post-season.  Rutta and Savard averaged 14 minutes and Schenn 9 minutes.  Foote didn't dress in the post-season.

This is why they'll never win a cup. When's the last time a team won without a legit 1C

Could be he just doesn’t like Winnipeg winters. Can’t blame him.

Or a true number 1 center. Looks like they're going after Eichel, TBH

Schmidt is loved in Vegas,.  Fans rave about him..

how about a straight swap for Martinez?

Bringing back Martinez is a priority per McCrimmon and they hope to finalise his contract by tomorrow.

If he doesnt want to play for the Jets, he can decline being traded to them. What the Canucks can get for him means nothing to him.

depends. what if he has a close friend on the team that he'd like to play with, but the canucks are asking for that player in return? what if he's being shopped for a 7th rounder, forever lowering his perceived value?

nothing is cut and dry.

Exactly, so it is supposed to be yes or no--- not  maybe, if I like the deal.

It is J.B and the other gm's job to decide the pieces moved, it should be Nate's job to say yes or no.

So how is it that the Winnipeg reporter is saying Nate turned down "multiple trades" to Winnipeg?

If the Jets came to us with a better offer, then maybe they tried to sell him the idea that Winnipeg is the closest Canadian city to Minnesota.

Doesnt mean he is specifically turning down trades waiting for the right one. It could mean hehas been approached several times to be dealt to WPG and has simply said no multiple times to being teaded there at all.

If anything, it sounds like Benning is wasting time trying to convince him to go somewhere he doesnt want to go.
