I think the land where a new arena is proposed needs to be prepared first, before construction can begin. It’s going to take several years to get that new rink built. sassbs
Seriously doubt bettman gives Canada another team. he’ll end up sending this team to Houston, or Delaware before it goes north. i would LOVE a Quebec team! Imagine going to a game there. The atmosphere would be electrifying

Meruelo believes that the hispanic market has been mostly untapped and seems intent on keeping the team in Arizona. Earlier this year Arizona has legalised sports betting. Starting later this week, Sports teams can now have sportsbooks operating in their venues - one of the 1st states to allow it. They also permit up to 20 online licences with 10 going to sports organisations and the Coyotes received one. It could be a significant a new source of revenue that's not available if they move out of state. Moving would also affect the recently signed TV deals. If the league removes a market there are likely penalties or reduced fees. Arizona has value to the league because it's one of the largest US markets and growing. The NHL doesn't just look at markets individually but at league revenue as a whole. Quebec's proximity to Montreal could divert fans and corporate sponsorship rather than create a new source of income. The owner of Quebecor is also a separatist who was active politically before withdrawing for family reasons. Owners might still see it as too strong of a political statement to grant a team to an owner who doesn't even want Quebec to be part of Canada. Some of this i agree with - but absolutely don't think it would affect MTL fans and market one bit. Quebec city is a long, long and not really that fun of a drive away. The problem with the Nordiques from the NHL viewpoint, is likely market cap or the size of the market. Where they aren't looking deep enough (NHL), is how hockey mad that part of the world is. The MTL/Nords created one of the very best, rivalries the leagues ever seen. Better or as least as good as Boston/Habs ever was/is, at its peak (both peaks)..Only EDM/CAL was as good, and the 90's COL/DET one. Those guys hated each other, and for years after, even in alumni games, until the Nords finally aged out, they were tense, often viscous affairs. Adding a team to Quebec would be great for Canadian hockey. And great for MTL fans, bet you'd be hard pressed to find many, that wouldn't want that team back to re-ignite what once was, as must watch game(s). It really isn't much different then TO and OTT as far as driving goes (time). And OTT didn't have any fans of the Senators to start with. Just a bunch of maple leaf nuts .... Bettman i'm sure wants a bigger market. If WNP can do it, for sure Quebec city can again. Salary disclosure and a sinking Canadian dollar made them move in the first place. Roy wouldn't have ever gone to that team had they stayed though - so i guess we got to see something from the Nords too, WCE's biggest rivalry anyways. Something went wrong and we don't have the actual data - between Bettman, the NHL, and the Nords coming back. There was a lot of noise 10-12 years ago that it was for sure in the works.. Built a state of the art arena for them - check - rich stable owners plus the entire province of Quebec ready to open their wallets to make it happen - check ... market size? not sure about that one given other, larger cities don't have teams. Maybe it was the owners too, who knows. Now if this was the Oshawa/Blackberry addition - i could see the Maple Leafs not being happy with that - one hour on the go train and your to the game. Either way. But even that would have worked - 7.5 million is the third biggest market in the US/Canada, after NY and LA. And i'd say given it's our sport, one Canadian is worth at least 3 US if not 5... no other major sports competing is also a check mark for Quebec City as well. I for one, would sure think there are at least 3-5 US teams, including great ones that have even won a cup (CAR), that would flourish in Quebec. ARI is one of them of course. 24K PureCool
Move them to Quebec already. 2 weeks ain't enough time to prepare Houston for the nhl.
combover
It’s been one mess up after another in zona. Clearly it’s not going to ever work just move the team. A sideshow that’s dragged the league down since they got gifted a team.

Ghostsof1915
Make a bet, that if Gary had his way. The League would buy the Gila Arena. And keep the team there until a new rink is built in Tempe . That's how desperate he is to keeping the team in Arizona. 1
Nuxfanabroad
How MUCH $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in revenue sharing do Cdn regions/teams kick in, so Sh*t teams in Sh*t, disinterested US markets can stay afloat? (Whilst this Sh*tty, corrupt league ensures other US teams always have the best Cup opportunities)

I suggest that you read the following statement from the management of the Arizona coyotes: “We have already launched an investigation to determine how this could have happened and initial indications are that it appears to be the result of an unfortunate human error. Regardless, we deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused. We will make sure that by (Wednesday) morning, the Arizona Coyotes are current on all of our bills and owe no state or local taxes whatsoever. And we will take immediate steps to ensure that nothing like this can ever possibly happen again.” sounds like a person within the coyotes organization caused the chaos.
