See this is Dhaliwal stirring up bs. I listened to the replay and Lazar basically said he'd like to go back to Boston but it comes down to if they want him back. If not he's a BC boy and was a Canucks fan his whole life so of course it would be great. But that is VERY different that what Rick is tweeting.

Given he's a slow player who doesn't put up points, I think he'd be happy to sign anywhere..

Rick is just creating news...not a fan of his.

Is Karlsson a defensive centre?  Lazar would be our right shot guy for D zone draws.

I'm not sure Alf. Just wondering if they might give him a look and see how he handles the assignment. He is very talented so I think it might be a possibility although he may be better served playing in Abby for most of the coming season.

If signed to league minimum, the Canucks will have made a long journey from the days when fourth liners were being offered/paid $3M AAV with term.  What a difference smart hockey men makes, huh?

Now now. The Canucks prospects were getting literally thrown around the rink. Bringing in Beagle, Roussel and Schaller was meant to protect those kids.

We all know that and to forget that part of the Canucks growth is to forfeit a part of its development.

The Canucks brought vets in to create a safe working environment. Our kids grew faster than anticipated and those contracts became anchors faster than they were expiring.

With expiring contracts, Benning went and got the Canucks a second 1D.

Lets keep it in perspective.

Yup. Dhaliwal is a real annoying $&!# disturber. I don't believe anything from him unless it's a direct quote from someone else.

Meh... not big and tough enough.... NEXT!!

I want Deslauriers!! He'll probably be slightly cheaper but way tougher!! He's won more than 50% of his fights in his career. We really need a guy who can come in anytime for physical challenges...

Fourth line winger. If can help PK, slides into Motte’s spot. BC boy.
‘If comes cheap why not.
Decent, not great size and right shot as well.

Have to sign him under 1 million X 1 yr..  Not that excited about Lazar 27, 6'0---- I would rather have Lammikko 6'2, he played well last 40 games when give the ice time..

Deslauriers will likely get paid $1m more than Lazar. Not sure if we want to spend that much on 4th liners. Agree that Deslauriers would be great tho

Yeah he's not one to get too excited about, but I think he could provide good depth as a RH center or RW.

I don't see it as Lazar vs Lammikko. I think we could have both Lammikko and Lazar (plus Highmore and Lockwood) as our 4th line + 13th forward.

Lazar at less than $900k would be a good move.

Lazar is 6'0" but is actually slightly heavier than Lammikko. The lower center of gravity from more mass and less height means that he likely hits harder. His reach might not be as good as Lammikko.

Speaking of hits, Lazar made 186 hits in 70 games last season (Lammikko only made 93 hits in 75 games - half of what Lazar did in fewer games). Hitting is the main thing that Lazar will bring compared to Lammikko. Lazar will also drop the gloves, but is not much of a fighter. Lammikko has no NHL fights on his card.

Otherwise they are quite similar:

Av TOI around 12 mins last season.

Points-wise very similar last season - 16 pts Lazar and 15 pts Lammikko.

Both guys PK and both got 100+ shorthanded minutes last season. oiGA/60 for Lazar was 6.4, for Lammikko was 10.7. Shows that Lazar is a pretty effective PKer.

Faceoffs last season - Lammikko 51%, Lazar 49%.

I wouldn't mind this, Lazar on our 4th line would be lovely. Lockwood deserves a chance but if we have the opportunity to sign Lazar for <1M then we should take it.

What I hope doesn't happen (and worry will happen) is that we'll sign Lazar for 2+M and use him as our 3rd line center. These days you need your 3rd line center to skate, kill penalties and score 30-40 points, and Lazar is far from that. There's plenty of better options out there in free agency, we may just have to jiggle the players a bit to create a tiny bit of cap but I'm sure we can get a good 3C for 3-4M

Everyone in the hockey world agreed that Benning overpaid for these types of players, to a ridiculous level. And they all have basically stated that OEL has negative value with that contract.

The trade to add OEL and dump all those contracts was the last gasp of a desperate man trying to save his job. Unfortunately, that’s reality, the real “perspective”.

As for Lazar, I think he’d be a great fit. RH C who can hit, take draws, kill penalties. Him, Lamikko, Highmore, and Lockwood could fill out spots 10-13, and all 4 will likely cost barely more than 1 Beagle. You need a decent guy as your 13th forward, there are always injuries.

I don't know where your getting that Lazar is this big time defensive face off specialist. he's a career minus player with a career face-off percentage of 47%. he didn't even play centre that much until the last couple years, and even that was sparingly. not to mention he has lead feet. hard pass.

That seems to be exactly what Dhaliwal tweeted so not sure why your panties are in a bunch.

Can't see Lazar getting any offer over 1.3 million X 2 yrs.. Hey is a 4th line C/W plays solid game but most teams are up against the cap and will not spend 2 million on Lazar look at previous seasons? Lazar will have to have breakout season to get 2 million... Canucks will be looking for a deal for Lazar 4th line guy 2 yrs X 1 million.. Show me more..
