If only the Avs had the balls to let it slide, then nab him off waivers after getting the picks

      Pears

They honestly should have done that tbh. Not only would Colorado have had first dibs on ROR, but they would've gotten free draft picks as well. Not to mention the lolz at Calgary would've been fantastic.

  2. I'm still pissed about Forsling. He's going to be a good defenseman.

@combover You act like you know what you're talking about.

      You don't.

Clendenning had superb AHL numbers as a defenceman. Benning is human. Based on the stats, there was NO indication that Clendenning would've turned into a AHL plug.

Turns out Benning is/was wrong. But other GMs who took on Clendenning later were hoping to see more from him. It never seemed to happen.

  3. I've seen fire and I've seen rain...

  4. If anyone needs a pre-Leafs/Nucks hype up the Wild-Flames game today should be a goonfest.

Do you recall the Gaudreau injury? If not the Wild's gameplan last time they met was basically to slash and hack the &^@# out of Johnny to get him off his game.

Ended up breaking the poor kids finger and putting him on IR.

    4. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

Yeah, I wondered if it was connected to Johnny-Gnome..honestly I must've not been paying attn(early season, & all)

Hope they beat the bejeezus outa' each other :^)

  5. If Boeser doesn't get a hat trick in his first game he's a bust. Even these Penguins third rounders are doing it.

  6. If he goes to the AHL ... how early can we start the Boeser for 2018 USA Olympic squad hype?

Man these two teams have such a hate for each other - I have to agree with Burke - the F(lames) dont have the boys to handle the Oilers physical play - wow

  9. In hindsight this is probably a good thing since it ensures we'll probably be in a similar draft position next year. If we picked top 3 Benning probably would have had a go at the playoffs next year.

    1. Gstank29

      Gstank29

Cause a top 3 pick will automatically make us a lot better of a team right. Seriously some people seriously overrate prospects, regardless of if we got a top 3 or not this teams going to be better next year.

      Why you ask?

because we won't have a top 6 forwards and top 4 defenseman injuried for the whole season.....

      Logic not CDCs strong suit

    2. Mathew Barzal

      Mathew Barzal

A top three pick would have made the team next year. A top three pick has the potential to produce at Eichel's level next year. Knowing that Benning would have more incentive to push to make the team better next year.

Whoever we draft at 5th will definitely not be on our starting roster come September.

We are a bad team even with a healthy roster FYI.

JS is on pace to reach career highs in goals and assists. Someone's gotta fill Martin St. Louis' skates.

In other news, I just found out Cody Hodgson retired a while back. WTF? Since when does a .5 PPG NHL player retire in their mid-20s?

  11. Is it wrong that I'm worried about Bo's contract now? These are some scary numbers being tossed around ...

    2. Baer.

      Baer.

If I was Bo I would start at 5 years, 6.5 per as my top dollar.

5 years would bring him to unrestricted free agency. But also in 5 years the cap will be much higher and the bar for players like him will be more around the 7M mark. Signing for 8 years would be foolish unless he gets that kind of money.

    3. CRAZY_4_NAZZY

      CRAZY_4_NAZZY

I'm actually more inclined to sign him a 4 year contract to retain him as a RFA and then go for the long term deal on him.

The more years you buy from his UFA negotiating years will likely cost you a higher caphit which can be dangerous if he doesn't live up to that number.  Plus guys like Sutter will have finally come off his final year on his deal (if he isn't dealt before then) and you can use that money towards Bo.

I would rather sign that kind of deal like a 4x4.75 or 4x5 contract to say okay you earned this but we want to see more too.

As much as it makes me nervous and uneasy, its a good precedent to make for players going forward and future signings for our players.

      JM_

yes. his agent is just being an agent. probably waited for unsigned offer sheets as leverage. looking at comparables and also at a bit of intangible stuff like "C" material and being a local favourite, i think it'll be in the 6milx8year range, maybe 8 years 50 mil, something like that.

  12. It will be a successful offseason if Benning does nothing. Ride the current anchor contracts out and invest in the youth.

@Alain Vigneault  Only way I see Stralman here is if Tampa strikes out on Karlsson, veteran Swedes tend to like planting their roots. I wouldn't mind him though on a two year deal.

I think this team still has too many flaws to go big with a UFA investment. Ideally, we need two more bonafide top four RHD to push Stecher down, another top four LHD, and two more top flight wingers.

  13. It's actually depressing watching the Oiler's play as a neutral party. McDavid's career is going to be a modern day tragedy if he sticks it out with them.

kind of reminds me of when Marcel Dionne was playing with the Kings.  Dionne was totally fabulous, and put up huge numbers.  The rest of the team was not so good.  Dionne might be the greatest player to never win a Cup.

    1. RRypien37

      RRypien37

This year points wise he is actually on pace for slightly less points than his only full season here.

    2. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

As RR37 pointed out, on a high flying team like Edmonton he has 7 goals, 16 assists and 23 points in 75 games.

      2013-14 in Vancouver: 14 Goals, 15 assists, 29 points in 73 games.

Major difference: He had 91 hits, he has 190 in Edmonton.

No only has he gotten his life together, but he's the physical forward the Canucks wanted him to be.

But I don't think he's ever going to be a top line guy, just a really useful, physical guy.

And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm happy for him.

    3. Jaku

      Jaku

I liked Kassian. I doubt he will ever become a scoring machine, but it's nice to see him using his size and speed to fill a checking role with the Oilers.

He had a contract year and he is set for life now so why even bother? Sedins will be gone soon too.

Apparently the Sedins requested his signing to Benning because they thought they had great chemistry.

^ Reddit is a forum akin to CDC except it covers anything and everything. If you can think of a topic there's a 'subreddit' or 'CDC' for it.

The Florida Panthers have an account on the hockey subreddit and are hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) live with McCann. Basically a period where you can ask him whatever you want and he'll answer to the best of his ability.
