Nuxfanabroad
So Mtl decides to go young, & reload for future seasons. JB gets a take it/leave it call, from a desperate Bergie. They offer... Weber(retain 1.3 mill) & a 2019 2nd, for... Gudbranson Granny Goldy/or Dahlen(pick 1) our 2018 1st R pick(top-4 OA protected). If it's a top-4 pick, shift 1st to following draft *condition: if they get the 2019 1st, we lose the MTL 2nd R pick in 2019* one prob is we're likely about 1~1.5 mill short on cap space. If someone like DD went on LTIR, they could probably swing it. **********VERDICT?******** Would you, or wouldn't you?
Silky mitts
Probably, just because of all the cap space we would have with the sedins off the books.

HockeydownUnder
I'd rather stick to the rebuild. Weber doesn't make the Canucks contenders and by the time we are ready to contend his cap hit will hurt us
Gaudette Celly
Wow, all that for a 32-year-old who is already breaking down, and have you even looked closely at his contract? At a time when we're not contending, for a guy who's not able to raise his own team to playoff level, and we're going to turf out at least FOUR young assets? Benning would be rightly fired for destroying everything he accomplished since he got here.

PlanB
Pass. Stay the course, build through the draft, keep our picks and wherever/whenever possible flip vets for more picks (talking about you Loui, Sam, Alex, Thomas...). Oh, and definitely re-up Quads. Crabcakes
Weber is (was) a win now proposition. 1 player doesn't do it for the Canucks. The Habs are in a pickle. Their core is getting older and they don't have the assets.
Warhippy
wtf? No, like hell no. That's as bad in its own right as sergachev for drouin or subban for weber You give up all that youth AND a pick which could be 5th through 10th easily for a soon to be 33 year old Weber and his massive contract and a 2nd. No....
khay
Weber would have been nice about 5 years ago. Now, not so much. He is 32 years old and has a large salary, even if salary is retained. We should stick to our rebuild.
48MPHSlapShot
This might be the worst proposal I've ever seen on this forum, and that's really saying something.
luckylager
Trade makes no sense for us, NFA.
NUCKER67
Sorry, that's not a good deal for the Canucks. Trading away players, a top prospect and a 1st round draft pick? That's going backwards. Weber's best days are behind him IMO.

Oh, and definitely re-up Quads. These points cannot be emphasized enough. This team is on the right track - no need to derail the plan unless a deal we cannot refuse is offered up and this proposal isn't one of those deals imo. JM_
hard no Nux. If Weber was 27 maybe but 7.8 mll for EIGHT FRICKING YEARS after this for a 32 year old... I'd drive Jim to the airport as they say. Gudbranson and Granny would be an overpayment for this contract which will be an albatross in 3 years. But to add in Dahlen and a 1st too? You must really like Weber.
elvis15
Nope, Weber makes no sense for us at this point with the new, young core we have coming in. I'd rather have Guddy, Goldobin, the picks, etc.

Weber is 32 and will be going into decline and is wrapped up for a LONG time on contract. If we were deep enough and ready to run for a cup, then it would make sense to have him, but what you have proposed is way too much for us to spend on a guy that will likely decline extensively over then next 2 - 3 seasons. If Montreal wants to dump him, I'd consider giving them Gudbranson and Granny straight up, just based on the experience and mentoring that he could bring to the rest of our defense. I'd still be asking Montreal to take some salary back. 7.8 million until he turns 40, is a really big number to eat!
Gaudette Celly
For any that don't already know, check out his cap recapture penalty, especially for the last year of his contract. Luongo's is chickenfeed in comparison.
