0 PPG last year, have to think he'll get more offensive looks and hopefully be in the 40-50 pts range, depending on deployment.

This.   He’s done it before and then his career was sidelined with injuries and ends up on the deepest RHD in the league...scored 8 points is 16 games two playoffs ago and four of those were goals.   He scores goals.  That’s not something we’ve had for a long long time on the blue line...even if it’s 10 on he low side it could lead the team.  How many did Edler get on the PP again last year?   For now at least he’s got to best shot on our defense by default.

God.  They just added 9 goals in Myers and likely another 20 in Miller.  Toss in whatever Quinn adds plus healthy / improved Brock/Bo/Pettersson and a full season of Pearson and hopefully Baertschi.

Not to mention that the last time the Leafs won the Cup, the league only had six teams. It’s baffling to think about it. There were only two rounds of playoffs.

I love the way the team is built.

 

There are two high end, legit shutdown lines - both Sutter and Beagle are as good as they come - and they have a complement of excellent wingers - Roussel, Virtanen, Motte, Leivo - those are two of the better shutdown lines in the league, and most of those guys can counterpunch score in transition.

Edler, Tanev, Myers and Benn - can all handle penalty killing, matchups - and both Edler and Myers can produce.

The top six is now two lines of legit scoring threat - Miller EP Boeser is very exciting, with the right mix imo, and the Horvat Pearson (Baer/Virt whomever) is a line that can score, defend, and pose a real transition threat as well.

 

Beyond that - Hughes brings elite puck moving, mobility and upside, while Stecher was breaking out last year with an outstanding two-way season - and both of these guys will now play under better conditions suited for them to succeed - if the team is remotely healthy.

That is a team that is built solidly front to back top to bottom - with a two way game - it can defend, and it can score - and it should have solid goaltending.

There may be an area or two they could improve - I might like a bit more Gudbranson element in that mix, but between Myers size, Benn's grit, and Miller's pwf game, I'm pretty happy that the team got not only bigger and more skilled, but also harder to play against - meanwhile, fighting becomes less and less frequent (the two SCFinalists, Boston and ST Louis had very little 'deterrent' factor in their lineups, and neither team was 'soft' by any stretch of the imagination).

 

Anyone that can't at all appreciate the team the Canucks are emerging into just doesn't get/appreciate a two way hockey build imo.

Think we overpaid for a pretty meh......  5-6 D man though.  I guess that is the market though.

 

Sign of the times, that JB is desperate to sign a few mediocre D men to save his own butt and get his GM contract extended.

 

All in all, Myers may help  our club for 1-2 years as depth D . but the contract may be a bit smelly the last few years though......
