Yeah that's fair for some, but there are others that's just not the case. I guess that's more with whom my frustration lies with

We (society) are all in the same boat.    If some people drill holes in the boat (don't get vaccinated), as long as isn't too many of them we can stop them and repair the damage before it gets out of control (variants).   If we have too many people drilling holes at same time, we will eventually sink no matter how many people try and stop the drilling.     Saw an article in a German paper that one community epidemiologist estimated that roughly 1.2 to 1.4% of the population had legitimate medical reasons for delayed or non-immediate vaccination (or any at all in some rare cases) but as the world tends to be stalled in the (at best) 20% or so not being vaccinated, herd immunity may not come prior to many more (and more damaging) variants come calling.    Not getting vaccinated if you in the 99% is simply selfish.    Cheers.

Yes, I understood what you were saying.

The control/placebo arm is critical. The more accurate term maybe nocebo effecf. The placebo effect occurs when a placebo actually makes you feel better or improves your symptoms. The nocebo effect, on the other hand, happens when a placebo makes you feel worse.

But in either case, convincing oneself a (not known to be, of course) placebo is causing such serious problems as to quit the trial indicates issues with the the people.

Expanded health, safety measures for K-12 students:

Government is updating its K-12 education health and safety guidelines to require masks for kindergarten to Grade 3 students.

“In-person learning is crucial for the social and educational well-being of students. The health and safety guidelines in our schools were developed under the guidance and direction of the Public Health Office (PHO) and BC Centre for Disease Control to allow children to safely attend school on a full-time, in-person basis,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Education. “We know there is a high level of concern among some parents, students, teachers and boards of education, especially in regions of B.C. where transmission rates are higher. We are listening to the concerns of people and, on the advice of the provincial health officer, taking further action so that families, students and staff feel secure.”

Beginning Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, all students in B.C. schools will be required to wear a mask when inside a school building, including while at their desks and on buses. This builds on the existing guidelines that currently apply to all students in grades 4 to 12.

“This pandemic continues to evolve and so do we,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer. “We need to make changes to fit the situation as it's arising. We know the COVID-19 virus is being transmitted more rapidly, particularly to those who don’t have the protection that vaccination offers. This extra measure adds another layer of protection as we navigate this phase of the pandemic.”

Beginning this month, the PHO will release a new monthly report that will inform British Columbians about the virus and how it effects school-aged children.

As announced in August, regional medical health officers (MHOs) may recommend additional health and safety measures in response to local and regional conditions. MHOs will continue to work with school districts to recommend any additional regional measures as required.

These measures build on the existing K-12 health and safety guidelines, which were developed in consultation with all education partners. The guidelines include daily health checks, hand washing, staying home when sick and improved ventilation systems. The guidelines also contain strategies for schools to help create space between people, including staggered recess, lunch breaks and class transition times, managing the flow of people in common areas, and using available space to spread people out.

Government will continue to be responsive to changes in the pandemic and will continue working with parents, teachers, school districts, First Nations rights-holders and all education partners to make sure schools are safe for students, teachers, and staff.

Man, I wish something like this happens here.  The anti-vaxx crowd would lose it.

California will soon require all students in both public and private schools to get the COVID-19 vaccine once the shot is fully authorized by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for different age groups.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the new emergency order on Friday while visiting a middle school in San Francisco. The COVID-19 vaccine will now join a list of 10 other vaccinations required for children to attend school in the state.

So, end of the month will be the meeting for 5-11 age group's approval.  Mid-month for Moderna and J&J boosters.  I have a feeling they will go a similar route as with the Pfizer booster (65 and older).

FDA to Hold Advisory Committee Meetings to Discuss Emergency Use Authorization for Booster Doses and COVID-19 Vaccines for Younger Children

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is announcing two upcoming meetings of its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) to discuss newly available data for the currently available COVID-19 vaccines.

VRBPAC Meeting on Janssen and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters

On Oct. 14 and 15, the advisory committee will meet to discuss the use of booster doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine. Both vaccines are currently authorized for emergency use to prevent COVID-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older. The committee will also hear presentations and discuss the available data on the use of a booster of a different vaccine than the one used for the primary series of an authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine (heterologous or “mix and match” booster).

“Vaccines are one of the most important interventions for bringing an end to the ongoing pandemic. It’s critical that as many eligible individuals as possible get vaccinated as soon as possible. Once vaccinated, we want to ensure that individuals continue to be protected against the adverse effects of COVID-19. The available data make clear that protection against symptomatic COVID-19 in certain populations begins to decrease over time, so it’s important to evaluate the information on the use of booster doses in various populations,” said Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

On Oct. 14, the committee will discuss an amendment to the emergency use authorization of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for the administration of a booster dose, in individuals 18 years of age and older.

On Oct. 15, the VRBPAC will discuss amending the emergency use authorization of Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine for the administration of a booster dose, in individuals 18 years of age and older.

Additionally, on Oct. 15, the committee will hear a presentation from the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases on the heterologous use of booster doses following the primary series of the three currently authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccines.

During the meeting, the committee will hear presentations from the companies on the data for their respective vaccines. The FDA will also present its own analyses of each of the manufacturers’ data. There will be an open public hearing each day during which the public will be given an opportunity to provide comments.

VRBPAC Meeting on Pfizer Data on Its COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5-11

The FDA anticipates receiving a request from Pfizer to amend its emergency use authorization to allow the use of its COVID-19 vaccine in children 5 through 11 years of age. In anticipation of the request, the FDA is moving forward with scheduling an advisory committee meeting on Oct. 26 to inform the agency’s decision-making.

“We know from our vast experience with other pediatric vaccines that children are not small adults, and we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of clinical trial data submitted in support of the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine used in a younger pediatric population, which may need a different dosage or formulation from that used in an older pediatric population or adults,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D.

The FDA intends to make background materials for both VRBPAC meetings available to the public, including the meeting agendas and committee rosters, no later than two business days before each meeting.

The FDA intends to livestream the VRBPAC meetings on the agency’s YouTube page (Oct. 14 meeting linkExternal Link Disclaimer; Oct. 15 meeting linkExternal Link Disclaimer; Oct. 26 meeting linkExternal Link Disclaimer), which will be viewable on the agency’s FacebookExternal Link Disclaimer and TwitterExternal Link Disclaimer channels; the meetings will also be webcast from the FDA website.

Okay I got an honest question for those more knowledgeable than myself. I keep seeing some statements in the Hamonic thread saying it doesn't matter for his immuno-compromised child if he is vaccinated or not as those vaxxed can still get it and spread it. I know this is true to some extent but doesn't being vaccinated stop you from getting it altogether sometimes or killing it off sooner, which would ultimately stop you from spreading it (to some degree at the very least)?

In short, yes.

Looks like it won't be much longer after the FDA approves for use in 5 - 11 that Health Canada will follow.

Ok I need to say it.

Flew from the Okanagan to San Francisco Friday.  Just landed today in Calgary returning.

My flight from Kelowna to van, van to San Francisco were both packed.  No rows or seats skipped.

Flying back today, plane was kinda half full but they still put people next to each other from San Francisco to Calgary.  I had to ask to be moved to an empty row while doing the pre flight instruction.

Until this gets addressed and handled properly the cross border or international infections will not stop.

Also, landed in Calgary saw the nucks vs jets on, nucks had over 3 minutes on the pp (no idea why) and they took exactly 1 shot that I saw... figure that mess out Green, it's been an issue for years.  Shoot the damned puck
