[Trade] Canucks trade Adam Gaudette to Blackhawks for Matthew Highmore

Just curious why? He’s signed for league minimum.

We have 48 of 50 contract spots used up.

Adding a contract for a guy that isn’t an NHLer and uses up a contract space next year doesn’t say that you are clearing a spot for younger players.

Leave the contract spaces for taking on players with potential.

Why do you think he keeps rewarding players who won’t Cups on other teams with overpriced contracts even if they can hardly play anymore? Jim can’t forward think to save his life

Buy high and sell low!

Highmore does have potential. I definitely don’t hate the pickup (when looking at it separately from the trade). He’s smallish (not really small at 5’11”, 180ish), but feisty, plays bigger than his size, and has no fear of going hard to the net. Owns elite level speed, and plays a solid 200ft game. Lots to like with this player.

But the trade has to be judged on value today, and there’s no way Highmore is currently viewed as a higher value asset than Gaudette.

The trade is a loss, even if we win. Value today is not close to equal. But hopefully Highmore proves to be the better player, longterm.

But we should have got more for Gaudette than this.

That’s not knocking Highmore. I hope he works out and becomes a lineup regular with a long, successful career in Vancouver.

no it doesn't work like that.

if no one wanted him no one wanted him.

jb is cutting his losses with gaudette, Jim said screw this kid your done.this is what he found, its better than letting him walk right?

Definitely stumped by this one but have to think the nucks brass thinks Kole kind is ready and has waay more jam then gauds.  Still don't really get this move.

If Lind is ready to make the team, then that is one justification for the trade.

The other possibility is that Gaudette requested a trade -- if he is indeed the one that caused this outbreak, it would have been difficult to remain on the team, knowing that you infected everyone on the team.

Not quite Shinkaruk didn’t even have an NHL game. Gaudette had a 45 pro rated point season last year while on the 3rd line under 13 minutes a game. Highmore isn’t even regarded as much as Granlund was then and Granlund was 22 or 23 years old when we got him. Really don’t get this trade.

Stop worrying about gaudettes 2019-20 point total so much and maybe worry about the fact he’s been the most sheltered player in the nhl for a reason. Deep breaths kiddos

Most sheltered players are used as wingers not centers.

Does that include the contracts expiring this summer?
